New series - 3 episodes for 2 hrs long each

and hopefully no one singing jazz at end 😂😂

Fife Police Detective Sergeant Karen Pirie is tasked with reopening a cold case from 1996 involving Rosie Duff, a barmaid who was strangled in the Scottish town of St Andrews. The teen's body was found by three drunken students, Sigmund “Ziggy” Malkiewicz, Tom “Weird” Mackie, and Alex Gilbey, who immediately became suspects. But a lack of forensic evidence prevented any potential criminal charges from going forward.

Twenty-five years on, the initial investigation into Rosie's death was negligent. And, as the official synopsis reads, “someone appears to be willing to risk everything to keep the secrets surrounding the case hidden” and suggests that the three men initially involved may “know more than they previously revealed.”

val the author, And despite obviously being protective of her work, she graciously let Kenny and the writers change what they needed (to a certain extent). “Truly it's the team's job to bring the story to life on their terms,” she said. “My job when the series is being made is only to occasionally step in and tell them if a plot line couldn't happen, because I know what happens further down the line in the books.”

but does that mean the change the story from the books

has anyone read these stories

there are 6 in all. 3 now and 3 next year

There are actually six books that follow Karen’s journey as a detective, so you can (hopefully) expect more Karen Pirie to come.

TV is very rarely without a gripping drama in the works and now the latest has been announced. Based on the work of crime author Val McDermid, Karen Pirie is being brought to life by the same production company that’s behind BBC’s Line of Duty and Bodyguard so it looks like we’ll be in for a real treat.

I had Michael Moon pegged as the killer as he seemed more reluctant and actually angry about her investigations. Missed that it was the big boss!

I really enjoyed this series. Much better than the usual tripe on TV. I'm looking out for Val McDermid books now as I think I'd enjoy them

The interview scene was ridiculous. They're supposed to ask questions and show evidence she just gave a speech on what her theory was. Fine he was Grace's df but all the other stuff the primer on her cardigan and a witness saying maybe a BMW possibly black or grey picked her up was rather flimsy.

I'm really surprised his solicitor didn't tell her to shut up with her story telling and show them some proof or ask questions.

That said I quite liked it, though Mint was a good character and the scenery was beautiful.

I was a bit pissed off that it was the copper who killed Rosie.

And put KP on the case because he didn't think she'd solve it🙄

So sad that the podcaster revealed who the students were so they were killed for no reason.

I thought that was interesting though - making a very good point about all of the true crime podcasts that are out now, seeking out content and may be pointing the finger at entirely innocent people, whose lives may be impacted severely for no reason, depending on how popular the podcast is!

JacquelineCarlyle · 14/10/2022 13:13

I agree @mrstea301

Just finished the last episode: the scenes with Karen and Grace were very good and the arrest at the farm was brilliant, so tense. A lot was changed from the book though; I’d thought the cutting out of one of the students would be the biggest thing but there were a lot of others!

Also liked Karen and Phil getting together at the end in a nice uncomplicated way and not having some awkward agreement to just stay friends when neither of them really wanted that but thought the other one did 😂

Daughter wasn't it?

SydneyCarton · 17/10/2022 07:24

In the book it’s Lawson who kills Ziggy but in this adaptation they had the daughter bump him off, and try to kill Weird and Alex

XanaduKira · 17/10/2022 09:51

I assume that must have been to highlight the dangers of podcasts & releasing information that the police haven't.

So they totally changed the story and plot

why do they do that

SydneyCarton · 17/10/2022 15:29

I can't even remember if Lawson is the father of the baby in the book. Karen is a much more minor character, and it's more Alex and Weird who do the detective work, I think

colouringindoors · 18/10/2022 23:53

Just finished it. Thought it was Excellent. When she arrested him at the end, wow, really powerful, quite emotional. More of this itv.

mum2jakie · 10/03/2024 18:34

If anyone missed this first time around (and doesn't want to use the awful ITVx app) the first series is being shown on ITV3 Tuesday 8pm

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/03/2024 20:06

This was good. I think. I had to re read my op about it 😂
