Can they go in the house if they die in the grounds?

In US ghosts they get visits from some rival soldiers who died in the grounds...

Plus Robin didn't die in the house.

Pat, Robin, Thomas and Fanny all died in the grounds

That sort of gives a bit more scope then as to how a new ghost could be introduced.

I'm hoping for another female ghost in the next series. Mary is missed and the balance needs redressing. There are 6 male ghosts, Pat, the Captain, Thomas, Julian, Robin and Humphrey and only 2 female.

Any suggestions?

Yes there needs to be another female ghost. NOT a modern day one. That would be too sad, and we need another historical figure for variety's sake. A Victorian nanny would probably have spent her life on the top most floor, so that would be kind of cool if they could discover her while doing stuff in the attic. Would also be appropriate if Mike and Alison have a baby, as she could be always thinking she knows best and giving ludicrous outdated advice? Or maybe a bossy female figure would be too much 'more of same' with Lady Button too. I also can't think how they'd suddenly discover her and 'set her free'. The writing team are geniuses though, so I expect they could come up with something plausible.

Could one of the female plague ghosts decide to move upstairs?
Preferably not the ones played by Martha or Lolly!

Maybe Mike and Allison having a baby could be the reason another ghost suddenly appears?

The “no spoilers” warning in the subject of this thread just refers to not revealing anything that happened in series four until all episodes had been broadcast on regular UK tv, is that correct. As some people watched them all immediately. (I am not in the uk and was able to watch series 4 through the kindness of strangers (the internet.)

In that case, perhaps the gatehouse burning down could cause another ghost to appear.

I think anything they might do, no matter how outrageous, to bring in another ghost, would be forgiven.
But, let’s face it, would it be outrageous? They are ghosts? Ghosts who still need the loo! It wouldn’t have to bear up to scientific scrutiny.

Is discussing US series of Ghosts taboo or spoilery?

I have as going to explain how US Ghosts added in characters cos we're missing Mary

I don't think a female plague ghost coming up from the cellar permanently works well as a storyline (they can come up, like they did as the panto audience), certainly they couldn't recreate the American one, which I didn't like particularly. Also, unlike the US version, all the plague ghosts double up.
I'd vote for Katy Wix to come up as a plague ghost but she left the show of her own accord as she felt the time was right. In the British version, they've already been in the loft.

I was hoping Katy's plague ghost would be there in the Christmas episode. Hopefully she will come back for plague ghost cameos in future series. We also haven't seen Jemima since series one.

Personally, I think introducing a new ghost could be quite clunky. I think they did a really good job with Maddocks and I'm glad they made it one episode only.

I'd like to see Nicholas come back as a regular character, possibly as a chef working at the house for events.

I guess the girl playing her will be a great tall teenager by now - a bit tricky to explain away! They were a bit inconsistent with Jemima in that she could talk originally but could only sing 'Ring-a-ring-of-Roses' later in the series. A child ghost would be fun as they could get up to mischief. But again hard to explain why they're growing!

The next ghost needs to have a special talent - like causing a crazy wind or something.

Jemma didn't have any nicer qualities. The ghosts were scared of her.

I've been thinking about it and I think some sort of old building remains or body found in the grounds could be the answer - a nunnery or a Roman villa or an a bog body or something. An excavation could 'release' the ghost. A grumpy, not very Christian medieval nun, or a Roman general's wife- posh and vain- or a victim of a sacrifice (whiny and self-pitying).

Or perhaps they could find a hidden room in the house with a ghost in it - a pregnant housemaid walled up when she got pregnant by a Button male, or a governess stuck in an old library (unassuming, thinks she's bookish but misunderstands everything she reads, and very dull).

A suffragette would be great but I'm struggling to work that one out.

Was 'Maddocks' not stuck in his own fields though? Bound by the edges of the estate he worked on, much as the ghosts are stuck on the Button Hall land?
