Starts on Netflix… Weds 20th

OP posts:

I also think Brady is going to be the dad of Charmaine’s twins. Either that or out of jealousy she somehow bribed Mel’s fertility doctor and stole her embryos leaving Mel with someone else’s non viables.
Has anyone read the books? I might give them a go

colouringindoors · 03/08/2022 21:39

Ah well it's trash, but distracting and beautiful scenery! Totally agree with others re Preacher too 😉

sunshineandshowers40 · 05/08/2022 22:58

It's my guilty pleasure! I predicted the ending, the grandson storyline is very frustrating. Looking forward to S5.

BlueRaincoat1 · 05/08/2022 23:52

I'm on episode 8 of season 4. Oh my god, what a load of shit. (Still watching obv.) Jack and Mel and all the TALKING. It was the same in series 3. 'Can we just talk about this'. ALL THE TIME. And the 'young people' are fucking excruciating. Hope's brain injury which can be cured by a bit of socialisation ffs. The mad timelines. And what on earth was that mad Shakespeare thing. The amazing costumes! The totally weird 'fun at the fair' scenes. Mad. All totally mad.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 06/08/2022 15:16

What was with the time skips in the last few episodes? Randomly ‘2 days later’ ‘3 days later’ 🤣
Then Charmaine with her big baby shower event (and bump which appeared just in time for the event), yet only 5 months pg? Or should we just assume Jack has lost track of his impregnating schedule admin and mixed up the dates of ‘my friend’ on the phone?

Sheepreallylikerichteabiscuits · 06/08/2022 15:28

I just bought the first book - I hadn't realised it was a mills and boon book. Somehow despite being a mills and boon book it still has a way more believable timeline!

Book spoiler alert

Mel and jack for example don't even properly get together until at least a year after her husband dies, which is way way more realistic

Emetoremedy · 06/08/2022 19:21

I had to Google who she played in This is Us. I can't believe I never put two and two together! Especially as I have seen all seasons of both. Duh!

Deffo more chemistry with ‘Kevin’, than ‘Jack’, I think - same kind of character (nurse in both from memory?) in TiU and VR.

BlueRaincoat1 · 06/08/2022 23:56

Spoiler episode 9

The sister's wedding in episode 9 is so WEIRD! Why are all these people who don't know the bride and groom at the wedding??? Where are their own guests? Doesn't the sister have kids? I don't understand!

The urgent need for them to get married the next day, so I assumed some kind of ‘the groom is dying’ storyline, but no, nothing at all and therefore no explanation of why they were getting married in VR with randoms at their wedding. Then Mel’s ability to pull together the entire day with dress, catering and venue in just a matter of hours!
It’s really such enjoyable silliness, isn’t it? 🤣

OMG it literally just clicked

I think I'm giving up now I've finished this series.

I can't cope with Mel saying "awww honey" in that soppy voice or putting her arms over Jack's shoulders to kiss him every five minutes.

you know you’ll get sucked in again once season 5 drops!

I will not be happy until I see some sleep deprived new parents. If they breeze through the whole thing I’m going to be livid

🤣 both Mel and Jack returning to jobs with absolutely no childcare worries.

LemonsOnSaleAgain · 08/08/2022 13:41

Yep - there are dozens of locals who will happily drop everything to look after the babies perfectly. Grin

Popvan · 10/08/2022 04:55

Season 5 is where the limping drug runner talks about his feelings and goes to group therapy and builds a friendship with Jack who is also there because Mel saw him eating a chocolate liqueur.

I have been on a fluffy, American Netflix binge for a month now and have decided I need to move to Virgin River and crochet in Jack's bar during a terrible storm and have to sleep in whilst being provided with yummy Preacher food!

Other recommendation for complete suspension of reality is Chesapeake Shores. Closely followed by Sweet Magnolias.

I quite like sweet magnolia. Much better than Virgin River IMO. I've not watched Chesapeake Shores yet but my sister was going on about it, might give it a go.

Season 5 will probably only cover another month of Charmaine’s pregnancy, Mel will have caught up with her

Moggyd · 10/08/2022 14:27

@IfOn I love how wise everyone is in all these shows. Every word that comes out of their mouths is transformational to others. Each one could write a self help book!

😂I’m right there with you in Jack’s bar during a storm, being served the lovely food rustled up entirely by Preacher (although I wouldn’t want to walk home alone at night as there appears to be no actual streets and everyone lives in a woodland setting, with a disproportionate amount of ‘baddies’ and crimes in the neighbourhood).

I gave up on Sweet Magnolias a few eps in, but I’d not turn down an invite to the restaurant or the spa.

Nowhere will ever beat Stars Hollow IMHO

That long - I'm expecting her to deliver in season 7 (if there is one)

I think I need to be stranded-snowed in at the bar with Preacher serving the drinks and cooking for me - could be snowed in for weeks and weeks

Warning Spoilers……

5 months!!!! What the heck! The woman is an elephant! It is ridiculous but I can’t stop watching. That medieval Fayre😆for goodness sake.

Lizzie from teenage wanton temptress to Hope’s carer in one season and how many bad guys hang out in those woods. Drug barons, crime lords and rapists just hanging out there after dark! They would be safer off in downtown LA than Virgin River!

The knife poking out from the sink that no one noticed for months and months! Crime scene police did a good job , doesn’t anyone mop the floor , they all polish the bar every 5 mins .

So far we have a degenerative eye condition, Huntingdons disease, a brain injury, Lupus, a death from cancer, a near death leg injury, a heart attack whilst flying a plane, an alcoholic and a high risk pregnancy in a cast of about 20! Oh I forgot the kidnapping, battered wife and post traumatic stress disorder ! Bet health insurance in virgin river is expensive.

oh wait let’s just throw in Jacks brothers childhood death!!

I think the twins will be born in season 22 at this rate! 😆

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 11/08/2022 10:37

😂@makingmyway10 so true about the bar polishing!
