Macca got everyone talking so the old thread is full! Here's part two still lots of good stuff to come on Sunday 😃

OP posts:

I'd love to know how much everyone got paid to perform. Justin Hawkins (Darkness) said that Reading Festival was offering more money than Glastonbury at one point.
Nobody's doing it for free are they?

Perhaps they should have an 80s stage?

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 09:10

An 80s stage would be fab next year ( Emily / Michael, if your on here , it would do well !) Bananarama would go down a storm
Lots of young people like the old 80s songs.
Roxy music would be a lovely chilled set
Alison Moyat with Bronski Beat.
I guess it depends if bands are already touring and can't commit to it. Or get paid more elsewhere

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 09:14

Billy Ocean does a lot of festivals still , I've often seen his name crop up , but with lots of other people.
The Boomtown Rats would be good , but only if they did Rat trap and I don't like Mondays

I saw the boomtown rats at godiva festival a few years ago (when it was free!) And they played both of those. They were very good!

Sparklingbrook · 28/06/2022 09:24

Oh yes Bob Geldof is definitely legend material.

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 09:25

I was always a ' rat ' fan in the 70s. Had the badge.
Love Mondays , it is a classic
I then went off them after album 3, but I noticed they toured with a new album ( citizens of boom town ) only recently but I don't know any of the new songs at all !

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 09:32

On look East local news yesterday they said that many local gigs are banning people bringing camping chairs to festivals now , blankets have to be picked up once the acts are on and everyone has to stand up ! This is open air festivals in big parks and stately homes etc etc.
Out of order for older or people or those with disabilities etc

eglantine7 · 28/06/2022 09:37

Stevie Wonder would be the legend I would love to see 💖

eglantine7 · 28/06/2022 09:41

Dolly Parton too

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 09:45

Dolly did the legends slot in 2018 I think ? She was great,
Neil diamond was good one year , as long as they stick to the bigger hits it generally goes well in the sunday afternoon slot

Sparklingbrook · 28/06/2022 09:53

The clean up takes 3 weeks Shock
This is due to the sizable levels of waste that get left behind once the five-day festival finishes. The waste includes an estimated, 5,000 tents, 6,500 sleeping bags, 400 gazebos and 54 tonnes of cans and plastic bottles, all of which equates to roughly 1,650 tonnes of rubbish.

Tracy Chapman. In fact I might start a petition to get her for next year……..
Kate Bush.
K D Laing

And since we had a digitalised John Lennon this year I think they should capitalise on that and set up a stage for those we have lost to be digitalised and shown on screen.
Prince, Bowie, Janis, Kurt that’s my starting line up

BDeyes · 28/06/2022 10:09

PSB were brilliant my favourite of glasto this time, I actually went to see them in concert a few weeks ago, must admit to always having a bit of a secret crush on Neil Tennant even though he is gay!😍. Billie Eilish is brilliant too no wonder she has those shin splints with all that jumping around.
Missed suzanne vega and cannot find her on iplayer anywhere, bloody love the 80s.

Sparklingbrook · 28/06/2022 10:11

Apparently McFly played Glastonbury at the weekend-no coverage anywhere. ConfusedI watched Phoebe Bridgers, and thought she was good even though I am not her target audience.

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 10:15

I'm surprised that the young ( 18 plus) like 80s music.
Cher would be a big attraction , but I doubt she'd do it !
Friend saw Adam Ant recently and she said he was ok

DS (20) knows a lot of 80s music. Apparently it features quite heavily in some of his PS5 games.
Also he's enjoyed some of the stuff that's been played in this house and in my car over the years. So I think that age group can be aware, in the same way that I listened to a lot of my Mum and Dad's stuff.
Although saying that I was subjected to a lot of Elvis, and I'm not keen now. Grin

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 10:23

I don't like Elvis much.
Kate bush at number one made me smile though

Sparklingbrook · 28/06/2022 10:25

Unpopular opinion-I don't think Running up that Hill is a great song. But I love some of her other stuff.

At nearly £300 a ticket plus over a grand for tipi camping, plus millions watching on TV, I should hope not!

I wasn’t suggesting they should do it for free. 😂

Cassimin · 28/06/2022 13:21

I read somewhere yesterday that Beyoncé was paid about 1/2 of what she usually asks, was around 4 or 500k!!!
Emily Eavis said that it’s very much about raising money for charity.
My kids said it seemed bigger but busier than it has been previous years.

AtillatheHun · 28/06/2022 13:27

Actually some artists do in fact do several sets for costs / entry. It’s not a huge paying festival despite the broadcast value because the Eavis’ continue to make sizeable charitable donations- it’s a charity event. The ticket price is not high given the extraordinary amount of entertainment- only the music is televised, and only a tiny proportion of the music. It’s still incredibly prestigious and therefore artists want to do it (Billie built 6 sold out London shows around it, Kendrick Lamar and Macca aren’t doing it for the money)

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 13:38

Blimey, imagine being able to earn a million ( or nearly that) for a few hours on stage. It was good of Beyoncé to take less when she could get more elsewhere.
I know they have to pay the dancers and the band and rehearse and buy costumes and it's probably not all profit, but even so. It is another world isn't it? The total bill for the venue all those artists must be huge , no wonder the tickets are expensive.
Do they give all the money to charity ? Or just a percentage?

AtillatheHun · 28/06/2022 14:28

A percentage - will be on their website I’m sure.
im sure Beyoncé’s outgoings are eye watering- musicians / crew / backing as well as costume, management, chef, guru etc etc. Billie Eilish has only 2 people on stage with her and no rhinestone encrusted costumes, excellent video - but looks like a very lean (profitable) operation by comparison to eg Diana Ross / beyonce

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 14:37

Billie is gen Z . Little outgoings , maximize the profit.
Beyoncé etc, old school spend up on all the frilly stuff and a chef , I'm actually jealous of having your own chef on board though.
It's another world
