No matter how many times you watch them!

Casper, when the mum comes back.

Friends, when Monica is going to the sperm bank & Joey chats to her about how he sees her future & gives her a big hug. (I was desperately broody & single first time I watched that & it always still gives me the feels!)

The start of Titanic where they show that old footage & play that music.

Terms of Endearment, when Debra Winger says goodbye to her children from her hospital bed.

YetAnotherNameChange111 · 17/06/2022 22:15

Oh, and Blackadder - the scene where they go over the top. The fear and bravery those young men must have felt, can hardly bear to think of it as my DS is the age they would be 😪

Years and years was the other (also Russell T Davies). The scene with the reality of the Channel crossing on the rubber raft and the aftermath on the beach was devastating.

This....

It absolutely broke me. How people can think refugees are coming over and risking their lives just for our benefits is beyond me :(

Lolabalola · 17/06/2022 22:32

Okja, the bit at the end where they are escaping the slaughter house through the yardage and a mummy okja pushes her baby under the fence to give it a chance to escape and live
Proper sobbing tears and odd looks from everyone else in the room
Plus every single episode of dereck , why did I put myself through that !

Old 70's film with Jon Voight called The Champ. End of the film when he dies and his son cries over his body - every single time.

OMG I've never cried as much at a film as that one.

I second the final episode of The Good Place. The whole concept of it makes the pit of my stomach hurt.

The Doctor Who episode where Donna realises she can’t be Doctor Donna anymore and doesn’t want to go back to her old life. And her Grandad knows what’s going on and looks out for the tardis in the night sky. I’m not even a real Doctor Who fan but it gets me every time.

Stressybetty · 17/06/2022 23:18

Most of A Dogs Purpose, basically every time the dog dies, when it's chained outside and especially the moment when Denis Quaid realises he's his dog Bailey re-born 😭. Most frustrating I think is the end of Shirley Valentine, I get so caught up in it every time and I know how it's going to end!

Ok, no spoilers, but there is a scene in the new Light-year movie that is SERIOUSLY sad... I might of had to discretely wipe my eyes & clear my throat in the cinemaSad

Yes! We saw it today...I know the one you mean 😢

Autreete · 18/06/2022 00:47

The baby scend in the movie Mother! Was absolutely horrific

HeathenPlayingHouse · 18/06/2022 00:58

Since having DS, I simply can't watch anything where children get hurt- OH wanted me to watch original Mad Max recently. I made as far as Jessie and Sprig getting mown down before running out of the room and crying hysterically while rage-washing the dishes! 😂

Aside from that, I nearly always cry at Bohemian Rhapsody when the crowd sings Love of My Life back to the band in concert.

Also I fall to pieces every time I watch Peter and Walter saying goodbye to each other in the Fringe finale.

HeathenPlayingHouse · 18/06/2022 00:59

Sprog, rather!

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 18/06/2022 07:29

HeidiWhole Yes! I mean, obviously I should have expected it seeing as it's Disney & they have a whole specialist team working on 'Ways to make people cry'... But it caught me off guard!

Apparently now the bit in Encanto when Abuela tells Mirabel about the night she lost her husband. Admittedly dd and I are both not well and very hormonal but jeez I had to pretend my hay fever was awful

PrancerandDancer · 18/06/2022 22:11

Me and 5 yo recently watched a film "Back to the Outback" where the "scary" animals are actually friendly and nice and the crocodile tried saving a boy who falls in the the water in her enclosure but the keepers think she is trying to hurt her so they take her away. My little one sobbed and I wasn't far off!!

LilyPotter22 · 18/06/2022 22:22

The end of Edward Scissorhands when he has to stay in the castle all alone. Traumatised me as a child, not because it was creepy as fuck but because it was so bloody sad.

AYearOfCushions · 18/06/2022 22:27

The ending of Billy Elliot when his father goes to see him perform. It's such an emotional build up and you can see the pride his dad has for him. Incredibly emotional.

Blogdog · 19/06/2022 00:32

There is a beautiful Pixar short called Float which is about a father coming to terms with his son’s special abilities (he can fly). It’s an allegory written by a Pixar animator whose son is autistic. I also have an autistic son and I cried for hours after watching it. It hit me on a visceral level. It is lovely though.

PrincessScarlett · 19/06/2022 09:24

The English Patient still haunts me. Katherine being left in that cave and Almasy unable to get to her as he had been captured. Such a desperately sad ending.

Oh and yes to Emma Thompson in Love Actually. That scene is a standout scene and gets me every time. Shows what a fantastic actress she is that one scene is still talked about all these years later.

Maireas · 19/06/2022 10:53

The scene in Friends where Monica and Chandler think they've lost the chance to adopt Erica's baby.
Chandler tells Erica that he will learn to be a good dad, but Monica is already there. She's a mother without a baby. 😥

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 19/06/2022 11:52

LilyPotter I don't remember any strong feelings about Edward scissorhands as a kid, but I recently watched it & realised how sad it is! The ending & that she 'knows' he's still up there, & the part where he breaks into Jim's house just 'Because you asked me to', & the part where he remembers cutting his dad face & he's scared to give her a hug as he doesn't want to hurt herSad

Disney Tear Squad: the darker side of animation... I can really picture that! They receive a hanky bonus for the number of people who weep.

Grin I bet it's a real job!

'Devoid of any emotion?'
'Love thinking of ways for animated characters to die/get hurt/abandoned etc?'
'Enjoy it when people tell you that your movie made them cry?'

Then we have the job for you!!

Hanky bonus for extra snot included.

The Black Adder episode where the men go over the top, and the scene fades to become a field of poppies. It'so poignant and sad.

Many of them boys rather than men. I know both my grandfather's lied about their ages to join up. Fortunately they survived, or I wouldn't be here, but they weren't the only ones.

YES! Another one that gets me. I start bawling from the moment when he’s carrying her to the cave and he notices the thimble “of course I’m wearing it, I’ve always worn it. I’ve always loved you.” And then there’s this huge swell of music and Ralph Fiennes’ face crumples… it’s beautifully done 💔💔💔
