No matter how many times you watch them!

Casper, when the mum comes back.

Friends, when Monica is going to the sperm bank & Joey chats to her about how he sees her future & gives her a big hug. (I was desperately broody & single first time I watched that & it always still gives me the feels!)

The start of Titanic where they show that old footage & play that music.

House, the episode with amber on the bus and house is trying to piece together what's happened - and it's basically his fault.

The Land Before Time - Littlefoot mum dies. Littlefoot sees his shadow and thinks she has come back.

Littlefoot's mother: Dear, sweet, Littlefoot, do you remember the way to the Great Valley?

Littlefoot: I guess so. But why do I have to know if you're going to be with me?

Littlefoot's mother: I'll be with you. Even if you can't see me.

Littlefoot: What do you mean if I can't see you? I can always see you.

Fuck. Teared up just writing this.

I have never seen this but reading it made me well up !

Sophie’s Choice.
Unbearable, my throat hurt.

fontime · 16/06/2022 23:26

Old film called The Chsmp. When champ goes down and his sons crying "don't die chsmp, don't die"

A.I.
I’ve blocked out exactly what it was that set me off but I was still sobbing 20 minutes after I’d left the cinema and haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it again.

Lots here that I’ve cried at and some that I’ve never seen but feel traumatised by proxy.
I am a crier though and if anything remotely sad happens in a film or tv programme, my dc and bf will stare at me to see if I’ve gone yet. Which invariably I have.

ILProbs · 17/06/2022 00:25

The alternative ending of rent. I have no idea why it wasn't used.

Dos oruguitas from encanto. Its beautiful. The song is stunning and the animation is incredible.

And some of the Morgan/Garcia scenes in criminal minds. Most of them are funny, but every so often they do a scene when it's about their genuine friendship and not the flirting, and it's so adorable.

I came here to say AI.

I ugly cried through most of that movie, especially the end.

Also Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I've seen it countless times but still cry in all the same places.

exLtEveDallas · 17/06/2022 06:53

The end of The Mist when he realises he didn’t need to kill his son. The book ending was so much more hopeful. I actually had nightmares and woke crying.

Buffy OMWF “I think I was in Heaven…in Heaven” and Willow’s realisation.

A war film I watched on video in the 80s. Can’t really remember any of it, but I know I sobbed so hard I was sick. I think it had Keifer in it, but I’m not even sure about that!

youlightupmyday · 17/06/2022 07:30

Once Were Warriors. The scene when he beats his wife up. And the finding of Grace and using Jake the muss' violence to get justice. Such a complicated film. I had to be held watching it

KimWexlersPonyTail · 17/06/2022 08:42

Only Fools and Horses. After Rodneys wedding when Del Boy takes his shirt off and is covered in bruises because he got into debt I think to pay for it. Rodney never knew, they play Holding back the Years by Simply Red. End of an era. Sobbed.

Blackadder goes Fourth, final scene showed on eve of Remembrance Sunday....

Dr Zhivago, most of it! The ice house scene and when he chases after Lara and he can't catch up...

Dr Who when the Dr has to leave Rose, check it out on you tube, someone has set it to music by Snow Patrol, evrn more heartbreaking

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 17/06/2022 09:03

Oh that scene is absolutely brutal!

KylieCharlene · 17/06/2022 09:19

The whole of The Boy in the striped pyjamas.

The part of Love Actually when Emma Thompson unwraps the CD.

Latenightreader · 17/06/2022 09:20

Oh Dr Zhivago - I was a wreck over the scene when he can’t catch Lara.

HeidiWhole · 17/06/2022 09:23

After Life
This is Us
Cry every episode of both

NashvilleQueen · 17/06/2022 09:24

When Baymax lets go and floats away.

The other one is in Educating Rita! I think the music has a lot to do with it.

NashvilleQueen · 17/06/2022 09:25

Last season of Unforgotten too (which I won't reveal in case anyone hasn't yet seen it)

SunshineAndFizz · 17/06/2022 09:27

Oh god yeah - Emma Thompson opening the CD in Love Actually. I'll never forgive Alan Rickman. Never.

ohfook · 17/06/2022 09:39

Not a movie scene but the song cover me in sunshine by Pink. I don't know what it is about it but every time I think of the sentiment of trying to make your child know things will be ok, I tear up!

KimWexlersPonyTail · 17/06/2022 14:44

Charles Dickens book, Tale of Two Cities, and what that character did for love, "it is a far, far better thing I do now than I have ever done"
When I was at school I couldn't believe someone would do that.

The Simpsons episode "Mother Simpson" where Homer finds out is mother is alive after believing she had been dead since he was a boy. The whole episode is bittersweet but when she has to leave him again at the end and he sits on his car bonnet, into the dark, watching the stars. So sad.

I always cry at that!

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 17/06/2022 21:20

Ok, no spoilers, but there is a scene in the new Light-year movie that is SERIOUSLY sad... I might of had to discretely wipe my eyes & clear my throat in the cinemaSad

A lot of mine have been mentioned already (first 10 mins of Up, Moana, Coco, Railway Children, Buffy).

I haven’t been able to read or watch Sophie’s Choice again since having DD. The ‘choice’ scene is literally unbearable.

The final scenes of Schindler’s List, where he asks how many more lives he could have saved and then you see the real-life Schindler Jews putting stones on his grave, are so powerful.

The ‘Tomorrow Belongs to Me’ scene from Cabaret never fails to send a shiver down my spine.

A slightly more obscure one is the end of ‘Oh What a Lovely War’, which I can’t really describe - you just have to watch it: m.youtube.com/watch?v=x_LhOO6Q6p8

DD recently brought a kids’ version of this book home from school. She couldn’t understand why that scene made me weep copiously!

YetAnotherNameChange111 · 17/06/2022 22:08

The scene in Derek when Ivor the dog has to be put down. Stunning, heartbreak, incredible actor. It is when I realise RG is a true genius

"About Time" - when the dad and son know it is the last time the son can go back in time and they play table tennis, knowing they will never see each other again. Utterly heart-breaking

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/06/2022 22:11

Brassed Off - where Stephen Tompkinson hangs himself; also where they spring Pete Poselthwaite from the hospital and take him to play at the Royal Albert Hall.

I live and work very close to all those old pot villages and am old enough to remember the miners’ strike.
