No not really

I was thinking the same whilst watching . She was not a nice character and I think any number of people would have liked to whack Her .

Perhaps with a hand though, not some object.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/06/2022 10:19

I think you've seen enough police dramas to know plenty of good cops go bad @Blondeshavemorefun 😉

the80sweregreat · 16/06/2022 11:01

Robert Glenister is very believable as the old school Met detective! His brother did play Gene Hunt though , one of my most favourite detectives in ' life on Mars'.
I wonder who the one is who didn't move on ?
Might be Ma Sparrow ?
obviously history between met policeman and the school head. Something to do with the flashbacks we've seen?

I think Andy might be the spy cop

Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2022 16:32

Just to chiming on accents, Rory Sparrow is from Nottingham. He was in Line if Duty and This is England with Vicky McClure. I trained in Nottingham and Newark and the accent is very distinctive .

The end made me gasp out loud Gogglebox style and I don't normally emote!

I'm for primary headteacher as copper, too.

Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2022 16:35

Chanel Cresswell is in cast list too and also from the area ( well, Derby). I'm betting she will be cruise ship mum.

I think Andy Fisher is colour blind casting which is the term someone was looking for.

CoffeeWithCheese · 16/06/2022 17:50

I’m loving it since it’s my work patch so location spotting is fun

MsMiaWallace · 16/06/2022 18:19

Did you think some of the filming was done on Byron Rd/Moseley Rd Annesley?

CrannyFadock · 17/06/2022 14:10

Loving this! I've had to watch it twice to understand everything but that was a pleasure!

Oh my goodness. I just realised Philip Glenister and Robert Glenister are brothers! How have I not twigged before?

And yes that ending make me gasp! What now?

LadyEloise1 · 17/06/2022 14:52

The ending didn't surprise me because I had read that the story was based loosely on real life events, one concerning a bride and she was the only newly married woman featured.

Did the surname snd the fact they look similar not give it away @WontBurn 😂😂

I get Neil Morrissey and David Morrissey muddled up, they’re not related are they?

PuppyMonkey · 17/06/2022 21:37

Also not related to Morrissey from The Smiths I believe. Grin

Saucery · 18/06/2022 07:44

One of the programmes that is worth the license fee.
I don’t mind the 2 episodes a week format as it makes me wait and look forward to the next installments. I remember episodes of dramas being on 2 consecutive evenings as the original ‘binge watching’ Grin
The only drawback is trying not to get sidetracked in a “what was he/she in?” discussion during the episode. Or the even more annoying “guess what he/she was in, I know!” questions.

Shades of “it’s Dr Franken - STEEN!” from Ian’s correction of his surname and I love the way his garden is immaculately laid out and tamed while the woods loom at the fence. #metaphoralert

Saucery · 18/06/2022 09:38

Could Andy’s late wife have been the undercover officer? We don’t know much about her, yet.

Rosehugger · 18/06/2022 10:27

I'm not sure why people are finding it a complex plot or difficult to understand. It's hardly Inception. The narrative is very simple.

Gilmorehill · 18/06/2022 11:53

Just finished episode 2. I gasped out loud. What a great drama with a strong cast.

It would be cool if one of the wives was the UC, however that wouldn't be at all realistic of the time. All the reports we have heard of UC infltrating groups and then marrying women have been men. But this is fiction so maybe.

(and yes Andy's wife is a good call, maybe she committed suicide later due to guilt at keeping this secret from her family)

JosephineGrundy · 18/06/2022 15:38

Also enjoying this a lot. Love David M and liked the fact that Joanne F was so annoying! Especially like the slow lingering direction taking in the gardens etc. Full marks to Claire R for not having an ounce of vanity in how her character is physically portrayed.

Saucery · 18/06/2022 16:02

There’s a sort of hierarchy of upward mobility in the houses. Gary and Julie’s terrace is more done up than Cathy and Fred’s, even though Gary must have suffered more financially than Fred if the latter carried on working through the strikes. So did Gary have another stream of revenue, perhaps one that wasn’t quite legit? Did he still have it and the drugs he burned weren’t actually stolen from the Sparrows?

The Fishers’ house is a bit soulless, Ian’s is set apart and quite posh…….I think the houses are part of the atmosphere of the series and illustrate how some people were able to move on after the strikes while others were not.
