Well, the son defo went for Amy and Jacob at the golf club and murdered Andy fisher even if he didn't kill the first man!
He is very dangerous and not many are that good or accurate at archery , must take a few years of practice to be that good from a distance.
Are archery clubs regulated like air gun and shot gun places are ?

Rosehugger · 23/06/2022 12:22

Is Andy Fisher dead? I thought Scott just walloped him with the butt of the crossbow to get the phone and stop him giving away their location.

must take a few years of practice to be that good from a distance

Hence suspecting a person whose family owns the range.

DuncinToffee · 23/06/2022 12:35

I don't think Andy is dead, just knocked out.

Scott could just be killing at random.

Penguinsaregreat · 23/06/2022 12:53

Yes dh said that Gary was killed by a longbow not a crossbow, think that’s correct.
Do murders go around randomly targeting folk without motive. Stupid question but isn’t it usually a result of an altercation or because they are there, as in men murder their wife because she is there when he gets angry.
Disclaimer: I don’t know this certain.
It all seems a bit random with Scott.

florentina1 · 23/06/2022 13:05

I think he overheard Andy saying that, his phone is on so that he can be tracked. I think he has knocked him out to lure the police into a trap. Maybe that was the plan from the beginning.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/06/2022 14:59

That’s what I said in e1

was it Scott as hinted it was him

don’t usually see who the killer is at the beginning

I definitely think it’s set on the present day - there’s Bluetooth speakers, in the first episode Tory lady talks about the ‘red wall’ falling so why shouldn’t she be a councillor which a completely recent concept, and I think the two policemen are approaching retirement - we know Met one is - and they were about 20 in the early/mid 80s then that would make sense.

Rosehugger · 23/06/2022 16:30

Yes I think the "30 years ago" bit is loose. The way people say that about the 1980s before realising it's actually nearly 40 years.

CrossPurposes · 23/06/2022 16:39

From the horse's mouth (the scriptwriter James Graham): "It is a contemporary drama and at its heart are two devastating killings which spark a massive manhunt and shatter a community that is already fractured after the divisive effect of the miners' strike 40 years before."

PuppyMonkey · 23/06/2022 16:41

I’m sure I saw somebody pay for something in a shop contactless - when did that come in?

if it’s supposed to be set in 2014, they’ve made that a bit unclear. But maybe it will be revealed as key to everything at some point!

DuncinToffee · 23/06/2022 18:03

Thanks CrossPurposes

PAFMO · 23/06/2022 18:33

I think the confusion over the time context is also because the writer has wanted to adapt the real murders (2004) making the Miner's Strike element more relevant.

the80sweregreat · 23/06/2022 11:50

The' red wall ' is an old saying.
The 'blue wall ' was coined in 2019 when the tories did well in areas like Sedgefield which were always Labour strongholds.

But the quote was about the Red wall falling. Which is very now. Like 2020

diddl · 23/06/2022 19:39

So I'm thinking that Helen St Clair might be in witness protection?

Do the Sparrows live in the middle of nowhere?

Seems a bit daft if running a taxi business from there-especially if it's supporting 4 people!

Might make it obviously a front for something else!

When Robert Glenister's character was explaining about the met being there-the one who was saying that Gary had been talking BS about spy cops-because he genuinely doesn't believe it or knows something?

Is it plausible that the Christopher Fairbanks character would have a burner phone with just the numbers of the other 4 "spycops"?

DuncinToffee · 23/06/2022 19:43

The Sparrows are drugsdealers.

diddl · 23/06/2022 19:50

DuncinToffee · 23/06/2022 19:43

The Sparrows are drugsdealers.

Yes I know.

That's what I was trying to say-it's obvious that the taxi business can't be the main source of income for all of them.

There's the archery of course...

DuncinToffee · 23/06/2022 20:03

Ah sorry, I thought it was strange that you missed the obvious Smile

I didn't explain very well!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/06/2022 20:05

So unlikely mrs sparrow is spy cop as wouidnt be able to turn a blind eye to all the drugs undercover

is it too obvious it’s coppers wife

Spy cop gone bad? A lot can change in 40 years.

Do we think it will be a woman? The old cop referred to Keats as 'they'

PortalooSunset · 23/06/2022 21:34

I was wondering if train driver man was spy cop?
Literally no idea what's going on with it, it's not like Midsomer Murders where you can work out whodunnit in the first 20 minutes is it?!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 23/06/2022 21:44

I saw Joanne Froggart being interviewed before it started and she said ‘we find out who the killers are very early on, so it’s not really a whodunnit but a whodunnit’
