Sitcoms/Shows with Perfect Endings

Frasier has just aired its final episode for the umpteenth time this morning on C4.

I always enjoy the last episode: it's nostalgic, ties up everyone's stories in a satisfying way and sees Frasier 'go get the girl'.

It occurs to me that it's a rare thing to have a show or sitcom end without being divisive and broadly loved by the fans.

Are there any other shows that people feel are well done in terms of finales and endings?

HIMYM being a good example of one almost universally poorly received!

The Americans. Loved the whole show (with maybe the exception of the fifth series) and the ending was amazing. So emotional (and a bit depressing really!) that noone ended up with a happy ending... And they managed it without killing off any characters. Felt so sorry for Stan ❤️

Yes! God I love that show but given its sensibilities, there was NEVER going to be a happy ending!

The Affair.

S1&2 were great, then it went off the boil. The last episode wrapped it up nicely.

Yes and the fact that my favourite song 'The Whole of the Moon' featured heavily was just a bonus. Beautifully done.

Blackadder. Poignant and inspired.

It made me cry and I was shocked to hear there were complaints about it being inappropriate at the time. In 2018 we went on a coach tour of First World War battlefields and the guide played the clip of the end on the coach, we were all in tears.

Detectorists had a beautiful ending but everything about that series was beautiful. Mackenzie Crooke is a total genius.

jumping on the good place bandwagon! Done so well.

Loved Six Feet Under ending and The Affair also had an absolutely brilliant last episode.

I did read they are doing a Detectorists feature length..

I finally watched the Brooklyn 99 ending-it was the perfect goodbye 😊

I agree about six feet under-I'd forgotten how magnificent that was

Did anyone watch Newhart? Hilarious ending.

That's still my all-time favorite series finale.

I can't believe no one has said Modern Family yet!

I’ve only JUST started watching this. Omg there are so many seasons. It must change over all those years right? How can it go on so long?

KillingMeDeftly · 19/06/2022 15:43

@BiscuitLover3678 after a few seasons it gets a bit stale (albeit still amusing) but I thought the last two seasons were really strong.

ScrambledEggForBrains · 19/06/2022 18:07

MASH
Charmed
The Good Place
& Downton Abby

KillingMeDeftly · 19/06/2022 19:11

How many endings has Downton had though?? 😆

I can’t imagine how they can go on so long but I can imagine it’s lovely if you grow up watching that same family.

only on season 1 and I only really like Mitch and Cam
