Sitcoms/Shows with Perfect Endings

Frasier has just aired its final episode for the umpteenth time this morning on C4.

I always enjoy the last episode: it's nostalgic, ties up everyone's stories in a satisfying way and sees Frasier 'go get the girl'.

It occurs to me that it's a rare thing to have a show or sitcom end without being divisive and broadly loved by the fans.

Are there any other shows that people feel are well done in terms of finales and endings?

HIMYM being a good example of one almost universally poorly received!

Mum - I loved it all not just the end.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 02/06/2022 21:35

Still Game

As Jack and Victor fade away going up Ben Lomond ...

Cue all the tears.

darlingdodo · 02/06/2022 21:36

Oh, yes, Still Game was beautifully done.

Homer28 · 02/06/2022 21:40

The end to the Sex and the City original series I thought was perfect (ignore the movies and Just like that!)

LosingTheWill2022.... 'The lemon is in play!'

Are you on the thread in chat @darlingdodo ? I don't know how to link but head over to chat and see the love for Cabin Pressure and the genius writing of JF. Quotes galore 😁

How to get away with Murder. Perfect ending.

Totally agree 💔

Homer28 · 02/06/2022 21:41

@RebeccaCloud9 agree! Loved the Jane the Virgin ending!

darlingdodo · 02/06/2022 21:43

Losingthewill, I will check it out.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/06/2022 21:46

Can't wait for the last episode of Coronation Street (if I'm still alive) then I can find out what happened to Minnie Caldwell'cat (Bobby)
It was glossed over a bit at the time. 😞

I loved the ending of Fringe! The whole last season was amazing, apparently because the writers were told that the contract wouldn't be renewed after season four, and then they got the go ahead but with an exact number of episodes and the knowledge that none of the actors would be coming back at the end. So they had basically full creative freedom with no "you must keep this character alive because they're a main character" that made it genuinely stressful if your favourite character was in jeopardy. One of my favourite shows ever.

Ah Friends ending annoyed me.Monica’s flat was rent controlled. It was her grandmother’s. You’re not telling me Ross, lover of bargains, grandson of the same grandmother, wouldn’t have taken it on?

Blackadder goes forth, definitely though. Perfect.

Yes I agree. Why did everyone else move out just because Monica and Chandler were leaving town??

I loved The Big Bang ending.

Crimeismymiddlename · 02/06/2022 22:10

Insecure had a great ending, as did Shrill.

EvergreenForest · 02/06/2022 23:14

I've also just thought of Buffy and Angel which were my teen favs.

The ending of Angel with the bigger fight coming to them was great and I like the tie up with Connor making him less annoying!

And Buffy ending with B realising it's not all on her shoulders anymore gave me tingles (and I loved the banter between the scoobies and Giles harping back to season 1)

Some fab other suggestions on here too!

I loved The Big Bang ending.

What do you mean by "everyone else move out" ?

Nobody else moved anywhere, the keys left on the counter were all the keys to Monica's apartment.

Everyone had a key to her place, so they had to give it back because she was leaving.

Morse

pigalow27 · 02/06/2022 23:44

Fleabag - complete sublime perfection

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 02/06/2022 23:46

Definitely The Office US. I love the ending. It's perfect.

MrsToothyBitch · 03/06/2022 00:03

MASH- a great look at the lasting effects of war.

ER- I loved the last episode. So many call backs to episode 1, nearly everyone got a a solid ending, hints of a Carter-Greene dream team to come.

Six Feet Under- perfection.

Derry Girls- Gorgeous. The polling station sequence is perfect.

Downton Abbey- Edith rules and I am here for it.

Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes- clever, thoughtful, satisfying, heartbreaking.

Bojack Horseman - it felt real. Just... life.

SATC (mostly) - but I ignore the films etc. They all got the right endings & Charlotte, Miranda and Sam got endings with some growth. Carrie... was Carrie.

The Big Bang Theory (mostly). I thought Raj being single was perfect. Penny and Leonard getting new jobs/promotions would've been been better. Liked everyone elses endings but Amy or Stuarts GF getting pregnant would've been more satisfying .

Friends- not my thing but the scene with the keys stays with me as perfect on its own.

HoyaSaxa · 03/06/2022 00:18

I cried like a baby at the end of Cabin Pressure. Utter perfection.

TigerLilyTail · 03/06/2022 00:33

I just loved the ending to Madmen. ❤️

I actually liked the ending to Game of Thrones. John going beyond the wall with the wildlings, finally just a hint of smile on his lips and that amazing choral version of the theme song. The music in GoT was just brilliant.

WildImaginings · 03/06/2022 00:37

Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes (still makes me cry)
The Good Place

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 03/06/2022 00:42

Blackadder has officially the best ending of any TV show ever. Absolutely beautiful and meaningful.
