Sitcoms/Shows with Perfect Endings

Frasier has just aired its final episode for the umpteenth time this morning on C4.

I always enjoy the last episode: it's nostalgic, ties up everyone's stories in a satisfying way and sees Frasier 'go get the girl'.

It occurs to me that it's a rare thing to have a show or sitcom end without being divisive and broadly loved by the fans.

Are there any other shows that people feel are well done in terms of finales and endings?

HIMYM being a good example of one almost universally poorly received!

Superstore had a lovely ending.

TomAllenWife · 01/06/2022 10:57

Six feet under by a mile - the most amazing ending to a series ever

JenniferBarkley · 01/06/2022 10:57

Derry Girls and The Good Place stand out for me.

hagelslaagfiend · 01/06/2022 11:00

Schitt's creek had a perfect ending.
Mum - never been matched imho

hagelslaagfiend · 01/06/2022 11:01

Oh yes I liked the ending to the good place

estellacruella · 01/06/2022 11:01

the sopranos ending may.not have been to everyones expectations but after all these years its still talked about and will always be remembered.

Superstore.
I think it included everyone and had enough quirky moments to not be totally twee.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/06/2022 11:17

I liked the ending of The Good Place. I think the series had gone on a bit too long and had few places where they were short of ideas, but it all pulled together pretty well at the end.

I rewatched Drop the Dead Donkey and I thought it had an 'out with a bang and not with a whimper' type ending which was weird and disturbing and in character with the rest of the series. The series hasn't aged all that badly, still the same wars just different countries and the same sleazy/lying/cheating politicians just different names.

Parks and Recreation, with the flashforwards showing how all the characters ended up.

And MASH, although the series in general had gone on far too long.

Jane the Virgin ❤

Had Royle Family ended with the Queen of Sheba episode, I'd say that. But it went on to do a few hideous "specials "

Friends was 99% perfect - but Rachel shouldn't have got off the plane, so I feel like she should have left as they left the apartment for the last time.

The Good Place ended perfectly. It had a few rough episodes in its midst, but I loved that they achieved their goal.

GlitteryGreen · 01/06/2022 11:27

I normally can't ever face rewatching the last episodes of sitcoms because they're always so emotional! I think I have watched Friends and Frasier's just the once each.

I love Peter Kay's Car Share...great ending there too, not too over the top and very realistic :)

StuckCompletely · 01/06/2022 11:28

Another one for Six Feet Under! Perfect (although lots of tears!) ending.

Fuzzyheid · 01/06/2022 11:31

Blackadder.
Genuinely unexpected the first time I saw that episode, and it took my breath away.

wonderpants · 01/06/2022 11:33

Friday Night Dinner.

Perfect way to end it. RIP Paul Ritter! Shit on it!

Savedbythebell1 · 01/06/2022 11:33

The Good Place
Schitts Creek

SiobhanSharpe · 01/06/2022 11:33

Drop the Dead Donkey -- I'm a retired journo and used to watch that avidly. There's a 'Gus' in a glass box office on the side of every newsroom who would wander round ineffectually trying to justify their exorbitant salary, as well as a hugely irritating 'Damien Day' twat who would stab you in the back as soon as look at you.
But for the life of me I can't remember how the series ended! I will have to look it up.

Hoolihan · 01/06/2022 11:35

The Office (UK) for me too, especially as it was so unexpected. I honestly think that whole show is pretty much perfect.

More recently Detectorists. Totally brilliant ending. Understated but joyous.

bellabride · 01/06/2022 12:01

Breaking Bad

ImAvingOops · 01/06/2022 12:05

After Life. Not a sit com obviously but absolutely beautiful

GreySquirrrel · 01/06/2022 12:08

Miranda

'After Life. Not a sit com obviously but absolutely beautiful'

Totally agree. I hated most of this show but the final 90 seconds redeemed it a bit

I loved the ending of 'Fleabag'. I love everything about 'Fleabag' to be fair!

Sheilaroundthefountain · 01/06/2022 15:49

Dinnerladies. Perfection

Housewife2010 · 02/06/2022 07:07

Just Good Friends and To the Manor Born

SunshineAndFizz · 02/06/2022 08:09

Game of Thrones.

Jokes obvs, worst ever Grin

Loved how Downton Abbey ended (movies are fun additions too), Edith's character arc was great, her ending up outranking everyone and finding love was brilliant.
