Frasier has just aired its final episode for the umpteenth time this morning on C4.

I always enjoy the last episode: it's nostalgic, ties up everyone's stories in a satisfying way and sees Frasier 'go get the girl'.

It occurs to me that it's a rare thing to have a show or sitcom end without being divisive and broadly loved by the fans.

Are there any other shows that people feel are well done in terms of finales and endings?

HIMYM being a good example of one almost universally poorly received!

I do quite like the final 90 seconds of Peep Show:

Super Hans vanning it to Macedonia
'Are we going to be alright?'
Bringing back small pox.
'Mark, will you pull me off?'
Jeremy and Mark discussing their preferred methods of murdering each other.
'Ahh, we do love each other really' 'I simply must get rid of him'.
The last shot of Mark and Jeremy from the wolf's POV.

I thought it was a nicely understated and fitting ending to the show. They haven't changed or grown at all, they're exactly where they were in the first ever episode. It just feels right.

Veep - the link back to the first episode with Tom Hanks’s death overshadowing Selina was brilliant.

RainbowConnection1 · 02/06/2022 14:28

For me it has to be The Good Place. Just beautifully done.

Escarpahell · 02/06/2022 14:30

How to get away with Murder. Perfect ending.

@RainbowConnection1 I am intrigued now! I watched the first few series of The Good Place, but then it got a bit tedious and confusing and I stopped watching. Is it worth watching the whole thing, or just the final episode?

Watch the lot.

Detectorists

Exactly what I came on to say
Wonderful ending to my favourite ever TV show

YY to Blackadder Goes Forth

Derry Girls - the season finale did more for my understanding of NI politics than 20 + years of news coverage.

TheVolturi · 02/06/2022 21:10

The end of Superstore made me cry! It was perfect.

LosingTheWill2022 · 02/06/2022 21:11

Having just watched the Derry Girls finale I thought it was brilliant.
Blackadder goes Forth was quite extraordinary and do incredibly poignant. One of those memorable tv moments and I'm glad I watched at the time.
Leading on from another thread, and acknowledging it's a radio sitcomnot tv, but the ending of John Finnemore's Cabin Pressure was absolute perfection.

darlingdodo · 02/06/2022 21:12

Blackadder, Derry Girls, Detectorists, Dinnerladies, and best of all, but on radio, not TV, Cabin Pressure.

Schitt's Creek

Without a doubt. It ended at the perfect time and every episode just worked, no stragglers.

That was great too

Kite22 · 02/06/2022 21:14

Black Adder was the first to come to mind - absolutely superb writing.

But The Big Bang Theory was also excellent, obviously in a different way.

BiscuitLover3678 · 02/06/2022 21:15

I keep seeing The Good Place. I also got bored around the time there was the Australian woman with terrible accent. Should I rewatch?

Ah Friends ending annoyed me.Monica’s flat was rent controlled. It was her grandmother’s. You’re not telling me Ross, lover of bargains, grandson of the same grandmother, wouldn’t have taken it on?

Blackadder goes forth, definitely though. Perfect.
