Can't find a thread for stranger things 4...anyone else impatiently waiting for Friday? Grin

OP posts:

I think the Kate Bush song is number 1 or 2 on iTunes.
I love the stranger things soundtrack, my kids are like wtf are you listening to.
But I was born in the 80s so it's all quite nostalgic for me.

Figgygal · 01/06/2022 21:35

Finally started episode 1 of the new season and all i can think is why are all these grown adults at high school
Honestly the seniors look like theyre in their 30's

iklboo · 01/06/2022 21:40

@Figgygal - I was at school in the 80s. Half the lads could have passed for early / mid twenties. We looked haggard back in t'day 😂

ellebelli · 02/06/2022 09:42

Yes especially Eddie and his band members.
I am halfway through ep 5, I am liking it but not as much as seasons 1 or 2( think we all agree 3 was a little bit rubbish)
It just seems so disjointed with them all in different places and I find myself forgetting about whats happened(like with Eddie)
I do not find the horror scary just a bit silly, and almost cringe, there is no way my 15yr old son would watch this now!!! ( we watched all the others together)
It for me is not as funny either, overall a shame but I know this is just my opinion.

queenofarles · 02/06/2022 11:09

I was in tears by the end of episode 4 , the actress who plays Max is amazing.
im kinda upset that tiktokers know about Kate bush now.

iklboo · 02/06/2022 12:10

I loved some of Steve & Dustin's scenes. I won't spoil them if you're not up to them yet, but you can tell the actors are really good friends off set.

DevilishDiva · 02/06/2022 12:20

I think this is my fave season! I really enjoyed it! I was soo anxious watching it, especially the bit in episode 7 where a few have to fight a you know what - I really didn't like that as those things really scare the life out of me! I spent most of that scene behind a cushion!!

I do like enzo though!!!

DevilishDiva · 30/05/2022 20:27

She was sat in the room but she wasn't in the flashbacks of the bodies..... I wonder if she will appear in the next 2 episodes.

Her sister that she meant has never been mentioned again has she?

LidlCinnamonBun · 02/06/2022 23:16

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Im so confused about this part of the plot and I’m wondering if I’m misremembering it. Can anybody explain it?

If Vecnor murdered all the children at Hawkins lab, who were the ex laboratory kids that eleven met back in series 2..?
They were all older than her. So considering she is 11 they would have been 2-10? But we just saw all of them get killed.

I said the same thing when I watched it tonight. Her "sister" was playing with her in the rainbow room so where was she when all the kids got killed?

And why is El's speech so bad? In the flashbacks the kids speak quite normally and Papa and the staff speak to them normally so why was it like El couldn't speak English or understand simple words when she met Mike?
I thought maybe she didn't speak because of the trauma but she still spoke like a small child when she was in the high school scenes.

Memory is an unreliable witness, even for El with powers. She won't 'remember' herself as not being able to speak before and, as she's now the narrator of the memories, she has always been able to speak as far as she's concerned.

CrapBucket · 03/06/2022 00:20

I loved this series, all the kids are great characters but I also find Joyce and Murray so entertaining. And Hopper and Enzo. I think Max was brilliant.

RollingInTheDeepSouth · 03/06/2022 08:20

I loved it. There were flaws and less preferred bits as others have said, but overall I enjoy stranger things so much, it is a love letter to the 80s.

What do you think was the significance of the upside down being stuck in the past, on the day Will disappeared? 🤔

xsquared · 03/06/2022 08:29

Late to the Stranger Things party but only because one of my favourite songs is number 1 now! Unless of course Harry Styles has nabbed it.

I've just finished episode 4 - POSSIBLE SPOILERS
The use of Running up that hill in the closing scene was so apt, and you're really rooting for Max.
I got the Nightmare on Elmstreet reference.
I think there are vital clues in Victor's story.
Love seeing Jaqen H'ghar from Game of Thrones/ Tom Wlaschiha as Enzo in the Hopper scenes.

Slowgrowingelm · 03/06/2022 09:42

@Fedupofthis123 Elles ‘sister’ was removed or left somehow before all the kids were murdered. I can’t remember what she said in the previous season but she (No. 8?) got out of the facility. The other people with 8 when Elle found her in the other city were normal people, they had nothing to do with the facility.

Slowgrowingelm · 03/06/2022 09:45

I’m loving this season, I don’t understand why some viewers can’t believe certain story lines though. My school experienced bullying they way it’s depicted here. Not a British school though. It’s hard to watch but very realistic from my experience in the 80’s.

Spoiler alert

Thats the same day Elle escaped and had the fight with number 1 and the upside down was created wasn't it?

NohoHank · 03/06/2022 11:47

El had the fight with 001 and created a portal to the upside down in 1979. El escaped and Will went missing in 1983. Not sure why the upside down is stuck in the past but hopefully they will explain more.

Just thru Epis1-2 so far.

I like watching the show for nostalgia: my youth, D&D, the clothing & hair styles. Heck even the skating. No one at school flagging Elle as peculiar rings true, she's called Jane for heaven's sake, nobody my generation is called Jane, and American schools are probably still terrible at recognising what bullying is. The media news hysteria over D&D is true enough.

However, The scenes with Elle being very publicly bullied (Epis1-2) narked me. I was there. Yes there was bullying nastiness but it was quiet pointed remarks and maybe bits of violence, although much less violence towards girls. Not at that kind of public overt adult-supporting the bullying. The scenes showed 9-10yr old behaviour out of adult sight, not what 14-15 yr olds would do in 1986 with adult colluders and no other kids intervening. Angela wouldn't have taken time to even speak to Elle. It doesn't make sense. Anyone recall Heathers ? Any precious popular girls weren't all that liked, plenty of allies to find against them!

ok, I know it's D&D / magical realisim. But I had to leave room for those scenes.

The haunted house (only seen it in trailers) is straight out of Adams Family, isn't it?!

Your memory is very different to mine! Plus there were many Janes in my year at school. There were two in my form!
I was horrifically bullied by someone - vindictive name calling, gangs of kids being horrible with a ringleader just like Angela. Has impacted my entire life. Teachers sided with my bully as she was blonde and pretty and sport and popular.
To me this was very real

anonacfr · 03/06/2022 13:13

I'm just rooting for Hopper and Joyce.
Steve is so likeable he has chemistry with everyone! His character development has been the best- he's just a good guy and it is nice (and refreshing) to see.

I have a horrible feeling (based on nothing I might add) that Murray is going to die heroically. We had the fakeout with Hopper last year.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Hopper telling Enzo that he hoped El was happy and finding her own way etc was so poignant, seeing how horrifically abused she was, at school and at the lab.
I can't believe Will didn't tell Joyce. She was left all alone lying miserably to Mike pretending everything was fine.

Speaking of Mike, terrible boyfriend. You get the sense he only liked her for her powers.

Kanaloa · 03/06/2022 13:54

To be fair I can see Will not telling Joyce as realistic. I mean he and his friends were also bullied at school, plus his own dad bullied him. Maybe he felt it would also add to her stress - she is struggling as a single mom of 3 working etc. Teens can often keep this stuff secret to almost protect their parent. Or even themselves.

I was shocked at the teacher. She seemed to feel sorry for El but is so weak she can’t control her own students/nip it in the bud. Poor El. Agree with Mike being a fairly rubbish boyfriend (and friend). She telekinetically saved him from HIS bullies. Surely he can at least support her through hers! And since he didn’t tell his parents or anyone he should understand why she would keep being bullied secret.

Kanaloa · 03/06/2022 13:56

Although I do get the public thing being unrealistic. Such as SPOILER the whole roller disco thing. Why would grown adults who own a roller disco join in a bullying campaign on a 14 year old? If nothing else that type of nastiness is bad for your business!

Slowgrowingelm · 03/06/2022 14:00

Mike actually reminds me of one of my DC, in so many ways. He’s a lovely, loving boy but he doesn’t get ‘new’ emotional concepts. He has to go through them/learn them before becoming more aware. I’m dreading him getting his first partner. Maybe I’m looking at Mike through rose tinted glasses but I think he means well, he’s just not very emotionally aware.

Also my dc is absolutely scrawny, very long and lean, white as a sheet and not an ounce of fat on him. He eats - everything - but only enough to fuel his body. I have another that will over eat if not careful and a third that would be considered ‘normal’. I don’t think outsiders can really judge someone they see on screen. It’s too easy to draw the wrong conclusions.

iklboo · 03/06/2022 14:44

Apparently Steve was supposed to be a really nasty character - bullying to younger children, abusive to Nancy. But once Joe Keery was on set they realised he was such a nice lad and got on so well with the rest of the cast they didn't want to spoil it and rewrote him.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 03/06/2022 15:21

I think one of the main cast will die in the final episode so it would make sense for it to be Murray sadly.

Mike is a terrible boyfriend and friend, I'm not sure why any of them like him. He's selfish and controlling.

I really feel like El has just gone from one controlling, abusive man to another (that includes Hopper to an extent as well.)

I couldn't understand why Joyce wouldn't have gone after El when she left the table upset? That didn't seem like her.
