its quite interesting. I feel sorry for Sophie. I am on episode 5

StarCourt · 18/04/2022 18:59

Started it last night. Loving it

I8toys · 18/04/2022 19:19

Enjoyed it apart from the weird camera angles and blurry triple images. Guessed the twist though.

SheAndHerAreWomen · 18/04/2022 23:13

Bloody amazing! Is the twist at the end of episode 4 or is there another one? My nerves are shredded!

Seriously though, I don't usually enjoy a political drama because, well politicians are arseholes, but this is fabulous. It does sadden me though that it's probably very true to real life 😞

SheAndHerAreWomen · 18/04/2022 23:14

And on a lighter note, I wonder if our PM likes Percy Pigs? Still an arsehole even if he does

Netaporter · 18/04/2022 23:35

Loved it. Great casting.

HollowTalk · 18/04/2022 23:44

I think it was written at the time that David Cameron was in power. He was a member of a very similar club at Oxford and so were half the cabinet, including Boris. I am three episodes in and really enjoying it though I wish they would put the bloody lights on!

Germolenequeen · 19/04/2022 00:23

Really really enjoyed it 😊

Friendofdennis · 19/04/2022 01:42

I loved it The flashbacks showing how as a young woman she had believed in him and never questioned any of his behaviour was really interesting

It was Cameron who liked pigs…

Terrible dialogue, some dodgy acting and a ridiculous plot but I still managed to binge it.

XelaM · 19/04/2022 07:59

I thought it was boring and the dialogue ridiculous and unnatural. Oh, and the "twist" was idiotic. No barrister would do this. But I got the Cameron Oxford vibe

FinnRussell · 19/04/2022 08:06

Worth it for lusting after Sienna Miller's clothes alone.

Ivyonafence · 19/04/2022 08:15

Loved it.

Not everything has to be a masterpiece.

I liked the creative camera work and what they were trying to do but agree that it went a little too far. Just a few less cuts and I think it would have landed better.

Agree that no barrister would ever have taken that case, but once I got over that I enjoyed the ride. Was more distracted by the fact she had the exact same way of speaking and mannerisms as Lady Mary.

Sienna Miller was fantastic.

Campervangirl · 19/04/2022 08:19

Binge watched it yesterday, it was really good, OH wasn't too interested as it was a political drama but by episode 3 he was hooked and was giving himself a massive pat on the back for working out the twist.
Sienna Miller was great, totally underestimated her acting ability, I always thought she was just a pretty face who once dated jude law 🙄

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/04/2022 08:24

You can see the twist for miles, and I'm on episode one, to two.

Also, I not sure about the surreal punch in gut at the end of episode one. Or was it two? Are there any more like this?

ClinkeyMonkey · 19/04/2022 09:34

I thought it was truly awful. I can suspend my disbelief with the best of them, but some of the dialogue and the scenarios were just ludicrous. Don't want to give any detail in case anyone reads this thread and hasn't watched the show.

I honestly am the opposite of people who try to figure out what happens next. I like to empty my brain (doesn't take long!) In fact, I rarely watch any sort of thriller or mystery with DP because he always seems to know what's coming and blurts it out without stopping to think that he might be spoiling it for me. But even I could see every element of the plot totally telegraphed. Thought Sienna Miller was good.

I did watch it all thoughGrinGrin

dropoutdoreen · 19/04/2022 10:38

Michelle Dockery's accent

Is that deliberate?

I agree, the dialogue between the husbad and wife was totally unrealistic, almost as if the writer had never heard real people speak. I haven't read the book so don't know if the adaptation is the issue.

I didn't even think the twist made that much sense, I don't want to say too much but the story would have been exactly the same without it as far as I could see.

Just one. You'll understand later on what they were trying to do with this artistic device but I'm not sure it worked.
mycatisannoying · 19/04/2022 11:19

I've just binged it too. I really, really enjoyed it even if the plot has more holes than my fishnets, and the acting was hammy (especially Kate).
Was lovely to see Sienna Miller shine!

I'm glad that consent is more cut and dry these days. If I had been the young Holly, back in the nineties, I'm not even sure it would have occurred to me that I'd been raped Blush The issue was such a blurry one back then, and if I'm being perfectly honest, I only thought it was rape if the woman was held down and entered while fighting off the perpetrator. I'm so glad that attitudes have changed, and this drama, in all fairness, did raise some serious questions.

sleepyhoglet · 19/04/2022 13:11

Omg only on episode one and it's amazing. I love everything. The location, the houses, the clothes.

AnneElliott · 19/04/2022 13:25

I binge watched it at the weekend. Some bits unrealistic (like appointing prosecuting counsel before the cops have been interviewed the defendant) but I thought it was really good.

I found it true to life as I worked in the Palace of Westminster, have to say when I was there most of the researchers were glorified secretaries or unusually tall Americans. I wasn't sexually assaulted when I worked there.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 20/04/2022 20:34

Really bad acting though. Just watching the courthouse episode with Olivia and it's really annoying the way she's acting.
