BRILLIANT!!! had to binge the lot. Sienna Miller just wow... underestimated her !

Just finished watching it all and enjoyed it. Couple of petty things though :
What wattage do they use in the lamps. There seemed to be plenty of lamps on but I couldn't see what was happening in the evening time scenes
Secondly I was irritated that Holly Berry was about 5ft tall but Kate was about 5ft 8

The son was annoying though with his constant 'Whitehouses always come out on top!'. Or whatever the family refrain was.

I did enjoy Dad saying to son - ‘and what’s the thing about Whitehouses?’ … son responding, and then Dad spilling coffee all down his white shirt, foretelling that, actually, they don’t.

Really enjoyed it, Sienna was great.

ForAFriend123 · 25/04/2022 20:26

Amazing! Thoroughly enjoyed it

IcedPurple · 25/04/2022 22:16

It was OK. Provided a few evenings' entertainment but I'll have forgotten it a month from now.

Sienna Miller was the best thing about it. I've always known about her more for her love life and fashions rather than her acting, but she surprised me here. Other than her, some of the acting was dodgy and the dialogue stilted in the extreme. Michelle Dockery has never impressed me as an actress, and this did nothing to change that view. She was basically Lady Glary in glasses and a wig.

I also thought, like many NF series, that it was too long and lacking in pace. 4 episodes would have been plenty.

IcedPurple · 25/04/2022 22:31

Rupert Friend looks like Fearghal Sharkey

Talk about a blast from the past!

I'm in stitches.

Aboutcoffee · 25/04/2022 22:55

Finished it tonight. I like Michelle Dockery but the part was a bit one dimensional.

The only other thing I have to ask is does nobody pull curtains at night in TV land? The number of scenes with James and Sophie waking up in that room in the morning with the curtains open ... drove me mad. As does all the wine drinking on television now. Replaced cigarettes for when they want a character to look stressed and thoughtful. Not a cup of sugary tea in sight which is what Sophie would have been advised if she had come on Mumsnet for advice as to whether to LTBSmile

NurseBernard · 25/04/2022 23:20

I enjoyed the fact that both the 1995 and 2005 Mr Wickhams appeared in it.

NurseBernard · 25/04/2022 23:21

And Sophie drinking from the bottle was a bit 🤨

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/04/2022 07:07

so much drinking, the lawyer was an alcoholic imo

I binged this last night. I really enjoyed it despite the complete stretch re bending of the law and ethics.

Sienna Miller was very impressive, as was Rupert Friend. Michelle D was just as wooden as she is in Downton.

There were so many actors I recognised but couldn’t place.

Lol! I reported that that appeared numerous times. No idea why that happened.

the80sweregreat · 26/04/2022 14:48

It is pretty cheesy so far. I've not read the book , but I heard it's based on Boris Johnson or something ? Is this right ?
Rupert Friend does look like Fergal Sharkey. He was on tv talking about fishing or something last year ( or water pollution?) he hasn't changed much! Or put on any weight !

Fulmine · 26/04/2022 15:12

It's pretty clearly based on Cameron and the Bullingdon club.

DiamondBright · 26/04/2022 15:38

We enjoyed it, easy to watch and a decent twist.

incywincyspider1 · 27/04/2022 06:26

I found Princess Jasmine actress distracted me and kept thinking she was going to burst into song ( I've watched Aladdin far too much).

Overall I thought it was a good programme bu the twist was definitely obvious.

The guy with the shaggy blonde hair who fell to his death looked very like a Bullingdon Club era Bozza.

WoodenClock · 27/04/2022 12:27

I loved it and really want to know what happens next, but I don't think there's more to come?

Not that this show was realistic in the way it portrayed legal matters, but I can't see how the PM and James could even be charged, let alone prosecuted.

It happened 2 decades ago and it's hard to see what evidence there could be at this stage. It all just depends on the word of someone who kept quiet about it for years.

I'm sure it's all very far fetched, but cases have been brought for very old crimes? In my head the investigation would find the evidence, or maybe not, but it would still be a good story.

burnoutbabe · 27/04/2022 19:28

Yes I assumed the investigation wouldn't really lead to prison /charges but they would both be ruined professionally.

I quite enjoyed it, it was silly but the 6 episodes passed quickly.
