"Tayto cheese and onion equals food of the Gods. Tayto Salt and vinegar are enjoyable but no substitute for the real cheese and onion deal. That was why the girls were disappointed that they were ‘only’ salt and vinegar Tayto."

That is a true fact about them being food of the Gods. Fortunately they're sold in Tesco near me.

The Sr Michael clips are so good 😂I'll definitely watch it from the start sometime again.

I've loved it all - series is perfect!

I've just watched season 1 episode 1 again on Netflix and they've changed the music Shock

It's still fab but not the same show! Not sure why they've done that other than to resonate with an American audience but not sure why they needed to change it!

If you're in the UK, the episodes on All 4 have the correct music. You have to put up with ads, but worth it for the music IMO. I think it's to do with music rights for the US?

TottersBlankly · 21/05/2022 09:15

Which reminds me - the special extra episode was almost completely ruined for me by the adverts. So many. So often.

I’ve only ever seen the show on All4 and usually find the amount of advertising tolerable - but it really wasn’t on Wednesday. There was so much it was hard to settle into the narrative.

Aye but which Tayto are the best? North or South of the border? 🤣🤐
I have had many RL discussions about this.
My granny lived in Monaghan she'd travel to Newry for the Tayto, we preferred the south side Tayto.

JenniferBarkley · 21/05/2022 09:29

I'm from Dublin and DH from the North. Twenty years in we have an unofficial policy not to go near the topic Which Tayto Is The Real One.

Neither of us even particularly care for Tayto Grin

I love this! 😀

Now I've just reminded myself how much I miss Manhattan popcorn 🤤

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 21/05/2022 09:48

I grew up in a Protestant area. So obviously I am of the view that NI Tayto are the real deal. I also went to Tayto Castle in Tandragee for a hen once. 😁

There's a significant Irish population in my area and my local corner shop stocks Tayto... the NI variety. Case closed. 😉

JenniferBarkley · 21/05/2022 09:57

DH is Catholic and insists Northern Tayto is the true Tayto (obviously he couldn't be more wrong), I don't think it's a Catholic/Protestant thing but a North/South thing.

Somatronic · 21/05/2022 10:27

Tayto in the south was founded first and literally invented flavoured potato chips so they're the original and best.

I've never tasted Nordy Taytos so can't comment on taste but seeing as they licenced the production techniques from Southern Tayto back in the 50s I feel like they can't be a million miles away. Next time I'm up north I'll make it my business to try some.

BananaBlue · 21/05/2022 11:27

Someone mentioned earlier re non- NI/Irish folk not getting local quirks and the Tayto’s is definately an example!

I didn’t expect it to be such a big thing when I asked what the significance was 😳😱🤣

What else have I missed…?

PS I’m in London, is there anywhere that I can get Tayto’s?

darisdet · 21/05/2022 11:35

Try Tesco world food aisle. I occasionally get cheese and onion Taytos, and other things, from there.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 21/05/2022 12:34

What area of London, @BananaBlue ?

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 21/05/2022 12:38

Irish Tayto are better than NI Tayto.

But King crisps or Hunky Dorys are better again.

You're right it isn't a Catholic/Protestant thing definitely a North/South thing.
South of the border Tayto win IMO. 😅

darisdet · 21/05/2022 13:19

I'd forgotten about Kings. I've just looked them up and remember the old packaging. Nostalgia!

But isn't it nice that the strange folk up here (I'm in the island's newest city) can find something to agree on - even if they're wrong Grin

PlasticineMeg · 21/05/2022 15:32

I think on the last episode props also need to go to Siobhan McSereney in the scene she looks in the classroom and is clearly devastated at her impending removal.

if anyone hasn’t watched it, the Derry Girls Bake Off is TV gold, absolutely hysterical and shows the amazing rapport of the cast.

PlasticineMeg · 21/05/2022 15:33

KarenLovesRosario · 21/05/2022 16:16

@PlasticineMeg
Whoa I didn't know about that !!
I know what I'm watching later thanks

JenniferBarkley · 21/05/2022 16:44

Oh you're in for a treat. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 21/05/2022 17:00

the subtitler needs to go on cultural sensitivity training! Poor Michelle, her vulgarity needs true representation Grin

Gosh that was poorly done!

I wasn’t watching with subtitles, and her meaning was perfectly clear. What made the subtitler so prim? (Assuming the photo does show what appeared on the screen?)

😂

I love that they’ve managed to translate it to something so totally innocent/cute that still sounds the same.
