the doctor divorce seems bizarre. She appears to love him and he is a Stay at home parent? so if she dies, he is much better off as a widower i'd assume than her having to give him everything in a divorce to achieve same affect.

Nesting seems a good idea if the family home is massive and then each side just needs a small studio for the rest of the week (and Hannah seems to stay at mums anyway)

And i assumed Hannah's mum's boyfriend wants to propose to the mum and will "ask her blessing" first.

midsomermurderess · 12/04/2022 15:23

I think it's more that self-pity with Hannah. It was crass of her to equate her marriage ending with Rose having lost her husband, but she is grieving too, if for something else, and so much so she can barely breath. I think she, and Nathan, had no idea, simply no idea, what this was going to do to them.

Oblomov22 · 12/04/2022 15:29

And why is the daughter Liv so angry at dad. Why not angry at mum?

DameHelena · 12/04/2022 15:30

@Oblomov22

And why is the daughter Liv so angry at dad. Why not angry at mum?
a) because she's insufferable but also to be fair b) because she's not heard/been told what Hannah did.
WellTidy · 12/04/2022 16:23

Liv knows that Hannah had an affair with Christie. Towards the end of series two, when they were talking about her relationship with Nathan, Hannah told her that she’d done the worst thing she could do, and Liv asked whether that cancelled out Nathan’s indiscretion. And then understood that it didn’t work like that.

BruceAndNosh · 12/04/2022 16:27

Incidentally, his excuse for not using contraception was the most laughable thing I've ever heard: he didn't have to think about it with Hannah, so he forgets to think about it with anyone else? hmm
I wasn't quite sure what he was getting at, he doesn't use contraception because

  1. Hannah deals with all that?
  2. they don't need contraception as they haven't had sex in yonks?
  3. he's forgotten which way on a condom goes?

Apologies if I sound like 'm griping, I actually LOVE this show and far too interested in the details...

A580Hojas · 12/04/2022 16:55

I don't want Hannah and Nathan to get back together. I want him to be happy with the new woman (is it Kate?) and I want Christy to have finally come to his senses too. There, I said it.

CaliforniaDrumming · 12/04/2022 17:13

Who could be happy with smug Kate? Classic expert on parenting without having had any kids.

LadyEloise1 · 12/04/2022 17:40

Liv coming home and telling them she's getting married - at 19. 🙄

I thought, from the hurt look on her face, that it was because of her age?

I hadn't remembered that. I don't know why she's so angry with him, then. Maybe she'll have an angry scene with Hannah too, soon?

yes i took it as a menaupause reveal. which she seems a bit young for having gone fully through it? maybe she had an operation /had her tubes tied? that would make more sense, after 3 kids.

A580Hojas · 12/04/2022 20:09

Yes. Totally unlikely in that sort of family. And as if they'd thow a celebration party for it?? If Nathan's so convinced he's a drug dealer why is he being so nicey nicey about it all? They'd be taking her aside and giving her a severe talking-to in the real world.
FawnDrench · 12/04/2022 20:15

Nina is so duplicitous though isn't she - well so is Tyler obviously.
I do think Ruth knows, and that Xander sort of suspects something's not quite right but is in denial.

Xander seemed to be fishing - asking Nina about children and Tyler but she didn't respond and just looked vague and non-commital when really he wanted her advice (or did he)
Xander seems a bit lost.

Will we get to know what Tyler is really like this time?
They uncovered some vague but unsubstantiated financial shenanigans involving him last series didn't they and now he has a "friend in real estate" to advise Nina about property - is he taking Nina for a great big old ride in more ways than one?
I really don't think he's all that he seems.

mum2jakie · 12/04/2022 20:30

@A580Hojas the celebration party was to welcome Liv home - not to celebrate the 'engagement'. I don't think Nathan seriously thinks the boyfriend is a drug dealer either, he's just not overjoyed at her returning with some random stranger!

WingBingo · 12/04/2022 20:43

I think that the financial irregularities that Christie is looking into may have something to do with Tyler.

DameHelena · 13/04/2022 08:44

I agree. I think the 'joky' comments come out of a very believable kind of parental suspicion and (sadly) casual xenophobia.

Fireblanket · 13/04/2022 13:45

I'm enjoying it, but The Split is typical of why I get really riled at dramas. The parties and celebrations are simply vehicles for conflict and, as others have said, so many of the characters are one-sided and lazy stereotypes (the arrogant, childless parenting expert, for example).
At the beginning of series 1 all the daughters had uncomfortable relationships with Ruth - remember that Hannah left her mother's firm to get away from her. Yet since the beginning of series 2 Ruth has become some sort of loving agony aunt, as a complete character change fits the narrative the writers want to push.
Of course this is drama and storylines have to be made clear, but sometimes I do feel very spoonfed.
and I don't think SM is a very strong actor in this. he does comedy so much better

BruceAndNosh · 13/04/2022 16:31

I caved in and watched episode 3 and have now banned myself from this thread until next monday night.

Stephen Mangan is on Radio 4 at the moment, interviewing Caraid Lloyd on a programme called “The Confessional.”

I keep hearing Nathan speaking. It’s odd.

Twospaniels · 13/04/2022 19:35

And just a little thing, but how come Rose could ride James’s bike? Surely it would have been pretty mangled in the crash that killed him?

FawnDrench · 13/04/2022 19:45

@Twospaniels Yes!
I said that to DH - just about feasible that the phone would be sort of intact as it could have been in a pocket or his bag, but the bike - ok enough to be ridden - no bloody way.

AnImaginaryCat · 13/04/2022 22:46

What the heck. What's with all the Nathan love?

Hardly the poor wounded innocent soul is he?

Didn't he try blame Hannah for him shagging some else and trying at every turn to lie about it?

louise5754 · 15/04/2022 08:55

They were both disloyal and I don't know how either of them could want the other back.

They only want each other when one of them has a love interest.

JanisMoplin · 15/04/2022 08:58

I would like Nicola Walker to play Medusa in some kind of mythological drama.
