@GrouchyKiwi

Caught up this afternoon. How did so many of them fail a potato test? Potatoes are the easiest food to make delicious since that's their inherent quality.
Caught up too! To I (copying Gregg and John here) a sweet potato isn't a potato- it probably technically is, but the brief was potato. And who batters chips? 🤦‍♀️
BoreOfWhabylon · 31/03/2022 20:35

There was too much other stuff distracting from the potato!

Musing on what I would have made if faced with Grace's potato challenge (and assuming I could actually cook, qm somewhat hit or miss).

Think I might have attempted a poshed-up butter pie (buttery potato and onion in pastry case). Maybe a mini Pithiviers, as seen in a Michel Roux Jr skills test once. Served with pickled red cabbage.

Or lovely beer battered potato scallops. Yum.

I like the sound of all of those, especially the butter pie - never had it but I want it!

Northern delicacy, although I'm not actually Northern Grin. I do remember cheese and potato pies from my youth though.

Pithiviers butter pie with added cheese!

This week the cooks have annoys me - "oh I just go to my cupboard, see what is there and fix a meal".
So what we all do then?!

Yes I remember cheese and potato pie but it was just literally mashed potato and cheese shoved in the oven I think? I am northern - well Scottish.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/04/2022 11:42

Ours was sliced potato and onions in a cheesy sauce, cooked on a pie plate with shortcrust pastry top and bottom.

I think it's one of those dishes that has endless regional/local/family variations.

Yeah my mum wasn't the best cook.
BoreOfWhabylon · 01/04/2022 16:06

Mine neither! My Granny was great at basic food on a budget though.

Evening Pebbles!

I completely forgot who last year's finalists were, and indeed which of them won.

ilovesooty · 01/04/2022 20:32

Evening all.

Sunbird24 · 01/04/2022 20:33

I thought theatre types needed expressive faces?
