Wednesday BBC1 at 9pm for anyone interested. I really enjoyed the last series.

I like the colours of wisteria room, but fake flowers are terrible

longwayoff · 16/03/2022 21:51

Is it only me that likes to have a comfortable headboard? Drawer knobs? Mirrors? Wtf?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 16/03/2022 21:55

My favourite was Banjo's green room and the black room. They had the balls to go for it.

nokidshere · 16/03/2022 21:57

Love the black room finished. I might have had a touch more silver or gold but I do,like it

Noooo! Not Peter!

Howeverdoyouneedme · 16/03/2022 21:58

I was surprised.

I agree. I thought they were awful to start with but the finished result for both was amazing.
duchessofmuchos · 16/03/2022 22:00

V surprised by that decision
He has shown much more talent I think

nokidshere · 16/03/2022 22:03

Well Banjos green room and the black one were the only two I liked really! Far too much going on in most of the others.

Wrong one sent home.

I agree. I'd like staying in either of them. The others were either ordinary or awful
Maireas · 16/03/2022 22:12

I wasn't keen on the black. It was right to bring back those three - Peter's room was just awful, and I really didn't like all the plastic foliage in Abi's design. I felt a bit sorry for Rochelle who was struggling a bit.

Nanalisa60 · 16/03/2022 22:16

I don’t think Peter should have gone , I loved his library. I hated Rochelle’s fake window looked like something from a cheap Greek cafe in 1980’s. Wrong person has been sent home.

HollowTalk · 16/03/2022 22:24

How long would an interior designer actually have to work on a hotel room? They seem to have come in with all the plans, which a designer would do too. The painters seemed very amateurish.

There doesn't seem to be any idea of how long any of them gets with a professional helper. What happens if two people want them at the same time?

nancy75 · 16/03/2022 22:41

The decorators they get on this are dreadful. My dad is a commercial decorator (they do actually decorate hotel rooms) and he would go nuts at that standard of work - they’d all be doing it again!

Winniewonka · 16/03/2022 22:43

I really didn't like the overall look of any of the rooms this week. There were some elements that worked but then the rest of the room was hideous e.g. Moustache Paul's turquoise blossom mural looked great but then he paired it with the awful striped tasselled curtains. Amy's custom designed green wallpaper was a gorgeous colour but she added the red poppy like flowered wallpaper too!
I felt sorry for Rochelle as they spent so much time dealing with the mould problem but the window effect was tacky. Out of the three, I felt Amy would go as she made a rookie error of not checking measurements properly.

Winniewonka · 16/03/2022 22:49

I've said the name Amy twice, I think I mean Abi for the last three on the sofa.

Fandangoes · 16/03/2022 23:02

I felt sorry for Rochelle I think the mouldy wall threw her and was unfair

bibliomania · 17/03/2022 06:22

Loved Peter's library - that hit the brief more than anyone. The doorknobs on the headboard would have caused regular head injuries though.

SoupDragon · 17/03/2022 07:40

I agree that Rochelle was thrown by the mouldy wall but I do think what they said about her fake window was right. Even taking the mould into account I think her design lacked confidence- which is something she said she lacked herself.

I think Fake Wisteria woman should have gone although it was a very close choice between the three on the sofa for me. Peter should have stayed purely because of his Library disguising the bathroom pod and filling that wasted space.

LemonViolet · 17/03/2022 07:56

Argh typed a long post and lost it! TL:DR is I think wrong person went and Michelle is biased against maximal/eclectic design so that influenced her decision, along with the desire to present a ‘journey’ of the contestants during the show.

Did love Banjo’s room though, and Dean’s, but hope he doesn’t just do the same thing each week and it seems that is his one trick and now he’s shown it. Paul needs to go ASAP. He comes across as an insufferable dick and his room wasn’t stunning/eclectic, it was off-the-peg design-by-numbers and even then was a bit rubbish. I don’t like the style of Amy’s hand-drawn prints I’m afraid, and that’s all she’s got, and she made questionable colour choices. Molly’s room was still pretty blah and she needs to do more and up her game. Of the bottom 3, both Abi and Rochelle made really questionable design decisions, whereas Peter’s only crime was to get carried away with an aesthetic that isn’t to Michelle’s personal taste. He really shouldn’t have been booted this early, he has one of the most interesting styles of all of them.

Now, most important question - if I made my own papier-mâché lampshade á la Fran, will I end up burning my house down? How did she fix it up there?

SoupDragon · 17/03/2022 08:12

I think you'd need to use a low energy lightbulb that doesn't get hot but I don't think you'd burn your house down.

I think you'd just need a hole in the top that is big enough to push the light fitting though - don't lampshades then get held on with a plastic collar? Most shop bought lampshades have a metal ring at the top for stability/strength/longevity I think.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/03/2022 08:13

wottonhouse.co.uk/rooms/

Interestingly they only show 6 out of the 9 rooms on the website, so I wonder if they chose not to keep the other 3?

It does also state on here the brief was to be inspired by the Italian gardens but with eccentric British theme.. I don't think that was what was said on the tv show though? I remember this being a problem in previous series that the actual brief wasn't shown on the tv show so everyone thought WTF.. I'll try see if there's any contestant blog posts this series as they were really interesting to read last time and gave more insight into the times and cost etc.

longwayoff · 17/03/2022 08:19

I've got some paper lampshades, not a fire hazard. Surely the hotel won't be expected to keep any of the tat that was rolled out? I'd be bloody miffed expecting a lovely country house weekend and being given any of those rooms. Trip Adviser callingGrin

Those rooms are also not what was seen on the programme! They've changed them and removed the shit bits (like Rochelle's window and the dodgy upholstery of Molly's headboard)
