Wednesday BBC1 at 9pm for anyone interested. I really enjoyed the last series.

Oh poor Amy if its closed for refurb (for whatever reason), not good publicity for her!

dillite · 27/04/2022 22:08

I understand why Banjo won, and he deserved it, but I do have to say a massive well done to Amy and just how much she has grown as a designer over the weeks.

SoupDragon · 27/04/2022 22:10

the Instagram said they were doubling the size so maybe they've bought next door or something.

I agree that Amy grew considerably over the series and improved her design skills.

MissMarplesNiece · 27/04/2022 22:15

I'm always curious about whether any of the contestants end up with a career in design and whether they get clients.

dillite · 27/04/2022 22:26

Last year's contestant Siobhan seems to be doing really well. She has her lines at Asda and Freemans, is always off on promo events.

Cocolapew · 27/04/2022 23:19

I hated both bars 😄, that was far too much work for it to be done properly in 3 days and £6000.
Banjos was the best but cushions, rugs with curled edges, copper gilty stuff 🤔, surely the cooper on the door will just flake off with people touching it?

Looks like they’re expanding rather than redecorating.

Thats the problem with these shows though, they have 2 days so any underlying issues will have been just painted over or hidden.

The state of the place it wouldn’t surprise me if it needs structural refurbing or they found asbestos or something.

I guess time will tell when it reopens.

SoupDragon · 28/04/2022 08:07

not if it was sealed. It had an "aged" effect over the top so I imagine it was varnished.

There was a contestant from last year called Barbara i think, who works with Sophie Robinson now.

Cocolapew · 28/04/2022 09:20

I didn't realise it could be varnished.
I'm now looking around to see what I can cover in gold leaf.

SoupDragon · 28/04/2022 09:35

I had some fake gold leaf a while back that said you should seal it to stop it tarnishing but I can't remember the details.

Now those are the last 2 people that I would put together! Their styles are complete polar opposites.

katienana · 28/04/2022 10:14

I loved the 70s bar I would definitely find that a fun place to go for a drink. I think on the basis of the whole show up to now Banjo deserved to win. It was nice that Fran came back, showed there were no hard feelings.

90sBritPop · 28/04/2022 10:55

I wasn’t sure about Amy at first, she seemed a bit tetchy and then she shared her story about infertility and I understood. As someone who’s going through the same, I just knew she’s been carrying that hurt and sense of failure throughout and I really felt for her.

Shame on me for judging you just don’t know what people are going through.

Both worthy finalists in my eyes and although Amy had the trickier room (it was falling apart) Banjo just outshone that little more.

YayitisfinallySpring · 28/04/2022 11:16

I felt that Amy was greatly disadvantaged by the state of the venue and the terrible bar that took so long to demolish. I’d have preferred a more even starting point. Two identical empty buildings, so it was fair. Three days should be five, otherwise too much is rushed. Banjo was good all the way through, but I though Amy was excellent too. I like her wallpapers and would love to see her selling a range of them.

She was I was confused when Michelle said, Amy’s venue had good bones. No it didn’t, it was clear to see it was falling apart.

Puffalicious · 28/04/2022 13:02

Just caught up. Yeah! Banjo won! I love him. My favourite from the start. Michelle summed it up perfectly: he's got design flair you just can't teach.

I now want him and his partner to be my new besties. They're in Scotland, so it's do-able!

SoupDragon · 28/04/2022 13:13

That's not quite what "good bones" means though. It's simply about the shape of the space and how it works.

Banjo's was larger than Amy's so it's difficult to know who had the bigger challenge really - they probably more or less evened out on paper to start with. Amy sort of caused some of her problems by removing the Tiki bar (even though it was absolutely the right thing to do). None of the issues with dodgy paint and poor quality ceilings would have been apparent until all the tiki shit was removed. Like Rochelle's damp hotel room.

Either way, Banjo deserved the win.

HaveringWavering · 28/04/2022 14:01

I thought Molly did a brilliant job sewing that gargantuan curtain!

HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 29/04/2022 08:54

Caught up with the final yesterday, was pleased I didn't see any spoilers.

Amy really did do well and you could see how much she learned, but Banjo was my winner from near the beginning. He came across so well.

Now just need to catch up with The Sewing Bee Grin

icelollycraving · 29/04/2022 10:21

Banjo was my favourite from the start, he did some beautiful rooms in the first half of the series. Did wonder if he was running out of ideas s but. Personally I thought last week’s was not great and didn’t really like this either.
I couldn’t warm to Amy and didn’t really like any of her designs, her style is not really for me.
I’ve never been to a bar with cushions and rugs. I just think they’d be disgusting in a week! Saying that I thought the same with the places last week, I don’t think in commercial space you need more stuff to clean/ trip hazards etc.
I didn’t love this as much as previous series. Siobhan is doing very well. I wonder if she’ll be back as a guest judge?!

longtompot · 29/04/2022 10:54

If you are on Instagram have a look at Banjo's page. The first of the hotels rooms is finished and I really like it
