I have bit the bullet and bought Starzplay for the time it's on - not paying for it after - and now can't wait.

Loved this episode. And the actress who plays Malva has been one of the best things about this season. One to watch.

GlasswareisOverated · 11/04/2022 12:47

Haven't got that far yet but good to know. Who were the dead men she was cutting bits off?

That was the sin eater. The one from episode one i think.

Why didn't Jamie tell Claire about Mary McNab when he was doing "full" disclosure when Claire came back - he told her about his son's mother adn then had to confess about Laoghaire? Drip feeding Mary McNab now would make me feel Hmm

For those who have watched twice - was there a slight continuity error? I thought someone said that Malva was made to confess in front of the congregation even though Mr McKenzie didn't want her to. Was Roger not still away with Jamie at that point?

Roger was hanging around near the door waiting for Jamie when Malva accused him. Surely, Roger should have said about Henderson at that point to nip things in the bud better.

If I was Claire I'd be terrified of the witch accusations after what happened the first time especially with Jamie away from home .

Myfanwyprice · 11/04/2022 18:21

sapatsea you have said everything I was thinking! Also, shouldn’t he have told Claire that Malva could describe his scars?

I did love this episode though, this series is getting better and better.

MoChridhe · 11/04/2022 18:53

In the books Jamie did not full disclosure his son and Geneva until much later when they were in Jamaica and they run into Lord John. Claire found Jamie and John hugging and she suspected something between them. That is when he told her about William. He said he'd been afraid to tell Claire because it would seem like he had never thought about Brianna and had been busy fathering bairns.

MoChridhe · 11/04/2022 18:56

I assume Jamie and Roger's plans to travel on the same day of the bombshell were postponed by a few days within which Roger would have gone to church🧑

GlasswareisOverated · 11/04/2022 22:27

You would have thought that the fairy hill would have taught Claire to take more care around other people's dead children.
Seemed an exceptionally dumb move on her part.

SapatSea · 11/04/2022 23:01

I agree Glassware. Doesn't a baby need oxygen delivered through the umbilical cord to survive? I thought that if the mother died a doctor had a matter of minutes to do a caesarean unless life support tech was available.
Even just being the one to find Malva's body casts a lot of suspicion of guilt on Claire never mind cutting open the body in situ and removing the fetus. last season I it was very rash and arrogant of Claire to do an autopsy on the guy who died after taking a remedy powder that had arsenic(?) in it and getting Marsali to practice on him all without consent. I thought that would come back to bite her somehow. She really sails "close to the wind."

MoChridhe you could be right about the trip being delayed. I guess Covid and having to shorten the season, monkey about with scripts etc. means that some things are a bit truncated.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 18/04/2022 22:01

Where is the next episode ?!! I thought there was eight episodes in this series

KillingMeDeftly · 18/04/2022 22:14

@absolutelyknackeredcow it's on an Easter break. Back next week!

absolutelyknackeredcow · 18/04/2022 22:40

Ah I thought I was going mad

KillingMeDeftly · 23/04/2022 12:44

Not long to go now, will we find out who it was who went near Malva's vulva and impregnated her? Or indeed if said impregnator is also her killer?

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/04/2022 23:45

I read the book, but it has been so long ago that I cannot remember who did what to Malva. Looking forward to finding out.

Am I the only one getting a bit bored/pissed off with the whole Lionel Brown haunting/Claire dosing with ether thing?

You are not alone. Feel whole series has lost its way. So tired of Claire reaching for her little leather hoof every time she has gone a bit wibbly.

Solina · 24/04/2022 21:11

To be honest it isn't that surprising considering what happened at the end of the last season. No wonder she is self medicating after that.
I do find this season a bit slow and wish the plot wasn't always about people wanting to get them killed. I miss the plotting and scheming they did for culloden and was hoping there would be more of a plot line like that as they are getting closer to the war. But I assume it is because this is what happens in the books, I have only read the first one so no idea on that.
Also find Brianna and Roger so annoying but I did enjoy the episode about Ian.

countrylifer · 24/04/2022 21:28

I'm finding this series such a grind! In a way I'm pleased as I was so obsessed with it in seasons 1-4, and to a degree 5, that I thought I'd never wean myself off it but happily I think this season will do it for me. I'll still watch it, and season 7 probably, but it's definitely lost its way. I don't think the scripts are giving the characters (and Jamie and Claire particularly) nearly enough. Too many serious looks into the distance and not enough story happening.

MoChridhe · 24/04/2022 21:45

I too hate the ether story line. Its not even in the books but they keep banging on about it. Even Jamie's reaction to Claires ether confession in the bedroom was lukewarm. I loved Lizzie and the Beardsleys, girl is living her life. Poor Claire getting the full xrated description of the throuple hilarious!
I hate the Bugs. Besides their major story in the books, I don't remember them being such assholes.

LeonardoAcropolis · 24/04/2022 22:30

Lionel Brown boring or not, his scenes inspired me to rewatch Glitch where the actor Ned Dennehey played the wonderful Paddy.

Is the only one episode of this series left?

KillingMeDeftly · 25/04/2022 07:16

@LeonardoAcropolis yes, I think it's the finale next week. And then we're back into Droughtlander for god knows how long! They've just started filing season 7.

It's utterly ridiculous - doing my head in. I have also found this series a grind but good things are coming in the next few books

Lessstressedhemum · 01/05/2022 18:22

Todays episode was brilliant. I loved it. Now we just have to wait months and months for season 7.

MoChridhe · 01/05/2022 21:30

I loved loved the finale! This episode was on par with season one in my opinion. It was also the best sex scene since A Malcolm in my opinion.

KillingMeDeftly · 01/05/2022 21:42

Gah, nothing resolved and we have to wait at least another year to find out who killed Malva!
