I have bit the bullet and bought Starzplay for the time it's on - not paying for it after - and now can't wait.

I agree, the sex scene was awkward, shoehorned in, especially knowing CB was pregnant. You can show that a couple are having loving sex without the nudity.
I guess Claire is looking like she is okay to everyone - busy, experimenting, having sex but is really struggling underneath. I'd be wishing I was back in 70's Boston!

Achilles totally agree with your comments.

Breath of Snow and Ashes is quite a dark book, really. It's a very difficult time for the family, none of them have to look very far for their troubles.
I quite liked the theme song, it's a bit different to what has gone before. I love the Gaelic version, though, it is fabulous.

MoChridhe · 07/03/2022 20:27

I was keen to see the first sex scene cos they have an intimacy co-ordinator for the first time. It was ok, I mean they aren't young springy things anymore and it wouldn't be realistic to be going at it like they did in the reckoning .

Oooh ! Just seen that there is a season 6

Like you lot, tempted to sign up for Starz just to watch this.

It seems a long time since the last series ended

Myfanwyprice · 11/03/2022 09:44

I’m really pleased I signed up for Starz - I’ve been watching men in kilts, which hard to please DH is also enjoying, I was worried it would be a bit cringey, but it’s pretty good; and also started Shining Vale (just 2 episodes on there at the moment) and I’m loving that!

I haven’t read all of the Outlander books, I’m only about 3/4 of the way through book 2, so I haven’t got those to judge the show against.

I did enjoy the first episode, it was good to get the background of the relationship with Tom Christie and to see how torn Jamie was with welcoming him, but knowing what he is like.

I quite like that it’s one episode a week.

Just check your Netflix first, Ep 1 S6 is on mine and included. No extras to pay.

Are you in UK?
AlisonDonut · 11/03/2022 10:18

Are you in UK?

No...that's why I said check it first. A VPN might get you access through netflix. It is worth a try before paying out. If you have netflix and a VPN of course.

colourlady · 11/03/2022 10:45

Thanks. Sometimes vpn works, sometimes not. I will have a go.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 11/03/2022 18:27

I'm only seeing up to S4 on US Netflix Sad

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 11/03/2022 18:28

colourlady · 11/03/2022 19:05

I don’t see it ?
MaryGubbins · 12/03/2022 09:50

Thing is Fergus has been a totally resilient trooper till now. Why’s he suddenly collapsing? I really liked his character before.

I also hate roger. I read a spoiler about him getting hung and was looking forward to him being killed off (obvs not how it went). It’s like all the other men have to be useless to show how great Jamie is.

I’ve read some of the books and I’m sure roger is a big strapping guy, and in the modern day he was an okay bloke. Now he is just this pointless whiny baby,

KillingMeDeftly · 12/03/2022 10:43

@MaryGubbins agree with you re Fergus. Yes he's had a very traumatic life but the tv series hasn't shown that it's had any repercussions on him until now. He's always been a cheerful chap and very much in love with Marsali. So it does feel like a bit of a volte-face.

SapatSea · 12/03/2022 10:48

Grin I agree about Roger MaryGubbins. You're right Roger is meant to be as big and strapping as Jamie, part of why he is seen as a good match for Brianna who is also meant to be big and strapping - and just like Jamie. I've read the first 3 books and IIRC Roger is meant to be very handsome with really black hair (although I recall icky scenes where he also fancies Claire when they all first meet). The casting and chemistry is just off with Roger and Brianna.

I laughed when Roger told the widow with the baby that he would "supervise" the building of her cabin. (not build it) He does seem to like helping single mothers out Hmm Has he learnt nothing from his ancestor arranging his "hanging" ?

I though that Brianna as an "engineer" would have rudimentary systems set up to deliver water and flow back to a small bath house and toilet by now. Neither her nor Roger seem to do any hard graft. Allan Christie was spot on when he says that Jamie" lives like a king". It's all got very "Lord of the Manor" and as I questioned upthread could you really build such a large house and clear so much land for crops in the short time they have lived on the Ridge. Did Jamie take money from the slave owner Aunt Jocasta to finance all this ? (yes, I know it's fiction)

JamieFrasersSassenach · 12/03/2022 11:40

Have just found this thread and joining to say I signed up and watched E1 last Sunday.

Thought it was much better than the last 2 series - hoping the whole of series 6 will be.

I have read all of the books and so am not in the least surprised about Fergus's behaviour, I think it will enable Cesar Domboy to stretch his acting skills.

Looking forward to tomorrow's episode!!

MoChridhe · 13/03/2022 07:59

SPOILERS

I loved episode 2. I am glad they stuck with the funny bits in the book. The naked Indian girls , the crombie funeral and Fergus facilitating the labourBlush

Maggiesgirl · 13/03/2022 17:12

I loved Ep 2. Brilliant and I have watched twice already Blush definitely back to season one writing level. They are using a lot more if Diana's dialogue too.

Joining in to say episode 2 was great. High hopes for this series!

Maggiesgirl · 20/03/2022 09:14

You will need your tissues ladies, just watched Ep3, and if Cesar Domboy and Lauren Lyle don't get some sort of award for their performance it will be a travesty.
