I have bit the bullet and bought Starzplay for the time it's on - not paying for it after - and now can't wait.

Signed up to Starzplayer through Prime. Thank goodness I saw this thread😂

theclockticksslowly · 05/03/2022 20:44

Can’t wait to watch it but can’t justify paying yet another subscription fee so will wait and binge on a free trial. Anyone know how many episodes there will be? (And consequently how many weeks I must wait to watch!)

Howshouldibehave · 05/03/2022 21:10

I wouldn’t have joined for £5.99 a month, but happy to pay £1.99!

I suspect they knew lots of people would want to watch outlander but maybe not at that price so came up with the offer!

NotMyDayJob · 05/03/2022 21:15

I've signed up for starzplay at £1.99. I wouldn't have at £5.99 but I'm about to have a baby so even though I've got Netflix/Prime/Disney+/Apple TV there's still more I can watch while naptrapped. Also, I really enjoy Outlander (I've read the books so I have to suspend belief between the two) and I want to watch it now not wait for ages

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/03/2022 21:16

I've bought Starzplay too. Couldn't wait.

Droughtlander no more.

Droughtlander no more.

This is the quality I'm here for.

Droughtlander. Star

Thanks for the Starzplay info, I was also going to wait til it had all aired then so a free trial, but happy to pay £1.99 a month to avoid spoilers. I binged all the seasons over summer, can’t believe I’d never heard of it before. Glad I’ve not been waiting two years for this season like many have!

crumpet · 05/03/2022 22:54

Am in. £1.99 not a bad deal, and am too far in to not see what they do this season.

Maggiesgirl · 06/03/2022 07:38

Anyone else already watched it?

No I didn't get up early in particular to watch it, but DH was up to leave for work at 6, so I was woken.

Peace, quiet, cup of coffee and Outlander. BLISS

Oh and it's a 90 minute episode. 😃

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 06/03/2022 07:43

I’ve just finished it. I woke up just after six and thought why not🤷‍♀️

Ahhhhh, it’s good.

8 episodes for this series.
MoChridhe · 06/03/2022 11:19

I just finished it. I liked it a lot, especially the first 20 minutes and the scene with the Browns, McDonald and Christies. As a book I like to be surprised, the last scene with Claire!!!!!

AchillesLastStand · 06/03/2022 17:25

Just signed up so I can watch it tomorrow when I’m back from the school run. Can’t wait!

absolutelyknackeredcow · 06/03/2022 17:44

I am in. Big fan of the books and up to date on them - have signed up to starzplay especially.
Haven't watched episode 1 yet and need an early night so maybe I will only watch 45 mins

Elderflower14 · 06/03/2022 18:33

I'm watching Series 1 at the moment so I have a lot to catch up on!! I described it to my friend as a Jacobean Ashes to Ashes!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

AngeloMysterioso · 06/03/2022 19:35

Ok, I caved and signed up so I could watch while DS napped and I had to pump.

I haven’t read the books so I don’t know if it’s much of a departure, is the direction it looks like they’re taking Fergus in true to the books?

isthismylifenow · 06/03/2022 19:57

I think I'm going to wait and binge watch the whole lot.

So i better hide this thread now 😉

KillingMeDeftly · 06/03/2022 22:30

I watched it but thought it was a bit slow. SPOILERS TO FOLLOW so scroll down at your peril!

The scene at Ardsmuir dragged on a bit but Tom Christie is an interesting addition and there's something very strange about his children.

Fergus turning into an alcoholic and possible wife-beater seems to have come out of nowhere. And is Claire becoming addicted to the general anaesthetic she's just invented?

And ever since I found out Chris Larkin (Lionel Brown's brother) is Maggie Smith's son, all I can see when he appears onscreen is the Dowager Countess!

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 06/03/2022 22:50

@KillingMeDeftly

(SPOILERS in my reply…so do not scroll if you don’t want to see them)

I thought the alcoholism and addiction were there as reactions to the trauma experienced at the end of the last season. For Claire at least, it’s trying to escape the nightmares/presumed PTSD. I’m presuming similar for Fergus but I’ll be raging if it’s just simply that he likes a drink more than he likes his life.

Maggiesgirl · 07/03/2022 06:39

Loved it. Thought the Ardsmuir part was really good at making the viewer understand the antagonisium between Jamie and Tom.

Yep to the PSTD, think for Fergus it goes back alllll the way to Black Jack, although I don't think Claire would self medicate though.

Definitely shifty Christie kids, slimy Allan and oh just so witchy Malva.

Did wonder what cupboard they had shut Jemmy in though.

Isn't Lauren Lyle a find. She is just such a good actress. She has just shot a Val McDirmand police drama, looking forward to that too.

Lessstressedhemum · 07/03/2022 10:20

The Fergus thing is in the books and it gets much worse! He has unresolved trauma from life in the brothel as a child, losing his hand, not being able to do what is needed on an 18th century homestead etc.
I think they are handling Claire's PTSD very well. It's not a terribly big part of the book, tbh. DG doesn't really explore these things in any sort of depth. I like that the show has her showing "weakness" and not being in control. She's a bit of a control freak. The Heughligans, on the other hand, are outraged and threatening to stop watching🤣

SapatSea · 07/03/2022 10:34

Missed having Murtagh at Ardsmuir.
KillingMe now you've told me about Lionel Brown I can't unsee it either Grin

The "big house" is kind of underused - it must have a load of empty bedrooms (not being offered to the newcomers). Is it smaller in the books? Looks like the weather was insanely cold for filming. Brianna looked like she was ready to drop when Tom was preaching in the woods. Imagine living in a covered wagon in that - I'd be begging to stay in the stables.

I'm glad Outlander is back but it's all a bit grim...
I've always thought that Claire has a kind of Stockholm Syndrome.

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 07/03/2022 11:03

I thought it was a bit slow but nicely set up the kind of leader Tom Christie was - and how that was different to Jamie.

The sex scene was really awkward though.

Maggiesgirl · 07/03/2022 12:52

Caitriona Balfe was pregnant during the filming of series 6. I woukd think any sex scene would be a bit on the awkward side.

AchillesLastStand · 07/03/2022 14:29

I liked it but didn’t love it. The opening scene was too long and the overall episode was quite dark. Also I really disliked the opening theme, the worst version so far I thought.

I haven’t read the books but you can sense what direction it is going. I don’t know whether I’m going to continue watching an episode a week or wait and watch them all in one go. The episodes set in Scotland are my favourite. I hope they go back there at some point in the future.
