I have bit the bullet and bought Starzplay for the time it's on - not paying for it after - and now can't wait.

I really enjoyed todays episode - Malva is so creepy!

Loved the beginning of the episode with the look back to what happened after culloden.

As I’m not familiar with the books I’m unsure of who the character introduced at the end is, but looking forward to finding out more.

MoChridhe · 03/04/2022 17:51

Oh Malva is the star of this season in my opinion. If you watch the episode 6 trailer you'll even be more creeped out, she is touching Jamie's face Confused

The character at the end is Wendigo Donner the time traveller who was part of Lionel Brown's gang who kidnapped Claire.

Was happy to see Lord John again. I always smile when I see him. I hope he gets a spin off.

Myfanwyprice · 03/04/2022 19:23

I’ve just watched the trailer for episode 6 - looks like another good one.

Thank you for the info on Wendigo Donner, I remember him mentioned on the threads for the last series now.

Agree about Lord John, a spin off would be great.

KillingMeDeftly · 03/04/2022 22:21

That was much better than last week and next week looks like it'll be even better!

Lessstressedhemum · 04/04/2022 10:12

I really enjoyed this week's episode. They certainly crammed a lot in. There were a lot of book storylines picked up this week.

SapatSea · 04/04/2022 11:18

I liked the opening theme being sung in gaelic. I laughed when Lizzie fainted in the woods and Brianna exclaimed that Lizzie had collapsed and needed to be taken home, whilst standing back and assuming work horses Marsali and Malva would shoulder the load!

Florabella · 04/04/2022 19:29

I enjoyed this week- possibly because of the flashbacks. But it felt more like Outlander of old to me

KillingMeDeftly · 04/04/2022 20:21

One thing that randomly occurred to me - Jamie has no idea that Frank was the image of Black Jack, has he? I don't think Claire ever mentioned that to him.

SapatSea · 06/04/2022 10:37

No, I don't think Jamie does know that unless it is a conversation they just haven't put in. I think Jamie does know that Frank is Alex Randall's descendant though as she helped make sure that Frank would "exist" in the future as she knew him. I read the first three books many years ago and don't recall Claire telling Jamie much about Frank.

Frank has a much larger story in the TV show than the books and is much nicer. In the books he met Claire on a dig and married her when she was 19 and he was almost 30. He had already had many lovers, had lovers when she was missing and several affairs after she returned. It is all told about in brief mentions and short sentences.

MoChridhe · 06/04/2022 17:07

In Book 9 (Bees) Jamie sees Frank's photo on the back of Frank's book and is taken back by the resemblance with Black Jack.

SapatSea · 09/04/2022 16:07

Interesting.

AtiaoftheJulii · 10/04/2022 18:13

Oh my goodness, can more people please watch today’s episode, I need to share a WTF??????

MoChridhe · 10/04/2022 19:13

I've watched 2 times already. Malva !!!!! Next episode should be an even bigger roller coaster.

SapatSea · 10/04/2022 19:37

That last scene! wow, that's got to be a hard one for Catriona Balfe to play.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 10/04/2022 20:01

I have been bored senselessly with this season despite having loved all the books and the seasons to date.
However this was a great episode that was really gripping

Maggiesgirl · 10/04/2022 20:56

Watched it twice already. What about episode. Although I have read the books so knew what was coming still I watched through my fingers!

I laughed so much at the scene where Claire's asked Tom Christie for a bit of his poo 💩.

Despite having read the books I was so scared of what Jamie's infidelity confession would be about. The scene in the stables was great acting for both Jamie and Claire.

KillingMeDeftly · 10/04/2022 21:56

That escalated quickly Shock

KillingMeDeftly · 10/04/2022 22:12

Gah, it's a 2-week wait until the next episode 😭

Lessstressedhemum · 10/04/2022 22:33

What a brilliant episode.

AngeloMysterioso · 10/04/2022 22:35

Well… I certainly didn’t see that ending coming! Is that what happens in the books?

KillingMeDeftly · 10/04/2022 22:38

There's something very fishy about Malva's brother (can't remember his name) if you ask me.

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 10/04/2022 23:54

@AngeloMysterioso

Yup.
GlasswareisOverated · 11/04/2022 09:39

What is Malva's deal (quite happy to be spoiled, if allowed on this thread?)

KillingMeDeftly · 11/04/2022 10:51

My theory on Malva's death is that it's an "honour" killing. Not Tom - for all his oddness he seems fairly educated, but I wouldn't put it past Allan.

(This isn't an invitation for book readers to post spoilers!)
