I really really loathed Wendy. I couldn't decide how old she was - she looked to be under 5 foot tall and had the body of a 10-12 year old girl despite talking with a deliberately sexy voice the whole time. I couldn't bear to watch the scene when she seduced Bram.
I kept thinking she was early teens and had been groomed.

Ginger1982 · 13/03/2022 10:36

At one point in my own head, just to make it interesting, I genuinely thought that all the 'friends' were figments of Fi's imagination until they were interacting with Bram. That might have made for a better storyline!

lazymum99 · 13/03/2022 10:58

I’m still giggling at a pp who remarked that If Tuppence Middleton got together with Jill Halfpenny she could be Tuppence Ha’penny Grin
I suppose this only appeals to the elderly mumsnetters who remember old pennies!

Papergirl1968 · 13/03/2022 11:55

There is a feature on the BBC news website about Martin Comptson, how he got into acting and now splits his time between Las Vegas and Scotland.

HeadacheGrey · 13/03/2022 12:04

But I hated the ending for the poor kids, the scene towards the end where one of the boys asks with a sob, when will he see Daddy again? Really got to me.

Yes that got to me too 😭

I thought the friend Merle was going to be in on it with Toby, as she was supplying the sleeping pills to everyone. It would've made more sense too as she was the one who split them up in the first place.

BruceAndNosh · 13/03/2022 13:00

My husband and I were watching this together, but both of us are rubbish at names so during discussions all the characters were given names like Not Steve Mate, Posh Boy, Real Wife, Fake Wife (previously known as Skanky Girl) and Belfast Friend

Holothane · 13/03/2022 16:58

Is the book any good I couldn’t fave another tv drama that was poor and a crap ending but I’m happy to read the book.

TrashyPanda · 13/03/2022 17:59

Why didn’t Fi tell the other mums that she caught Merle and Bram shagging?
It made no sense that she just sat there, looking like a wet weekend.

NashvilleQueen · 13/03/2022 21:52

May I ask about the road rage thing because I'm confused.

Is it that Mike and Wendy intended to cause a crash that injured a third party so they could blackmail the other driver ? Or was that an unintended consequence? Wouldn't most people just confess it rather than pay up? It's only because he was over the limit and a banned driver that he was susceptible which makes it v fortunate for the scammers. It doesn't sound like the best scam ordinarily

It was just happenstance.
BruceAndNosh · 14/03/2022 02:49

I'm still wondering how Fi packed all her willowy linen and silk outfits plus toiletries and makeup in the average sized shoulder bag she used for her weekends (in studio flat or away with Toby). Obviously she saved space by not packing any bras....

awaynboilyurheid · 14/03/2022 09:30

Would have liked another ending as others have said, I too thought the spelling book was going to be more than, well, just a spelling book!
Tuppence is beautiful, but most of the time looked like she had misplaced her car keys than someone whose home was sold under her! The poisoning scene made zero sense to her character, and she calls the woman who cheated with her husband to help, awful ending! Kept hoping it was friend/neighbour leading the scam at least would have made some sense.

Loving the salad jokes on here, thanks for the laughs.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 14/03/2022 09:42

I remember that the book includes Fi telling her story as part of a true crime podcast, and you get to see listener’s comments on what happened, as well as hearing more from Bram. I don’t think the TV series really did the book justice.

UglyModernWindows · 14/03/2022 13:32

I'm jealous that Fi got to wear a leather bomber jacket (final episode) from Me & Em. I've swooned after that jacket but as it was something like £495, I just couldn't justified buying it. I'm very jealous if Tuppence got to keep it!!

Think just conincidence

Pure unluck

I just finished it but confused by the effing

Did Bram die?

Fi is in custody for murder?

Was the pregnant friend who cheated with Bram involved in the fraud? Was she the one who pretended to be Fi? That's the part I don't get as towards the end she was being a bit fishy!

Also agree it was weird Fi went out with her and the others without saying what she did!

Honeyroar · 14/03/2022 22:48

We don’t know whether Bram died, it just looked like he had, and the police read his suicide note.

Wendy, the fraudster, not the pregnant friend, pretended to be Fi.

I would need no clothes at all if I spent the weekend with Rupert Penry-Jones.

  1. I assume he drowned himself. Not clear.

  2. Again assume so.

  3. I don't believe so but that's a good thought. Merle (pregnant friend) appeared to be helpful in the end maybe as penance for sleeping with Bram.
Wendy was the sexualised child woman figure who pretended to be Fi. (I am still cross that the casting people could not have chosen someone who looked to be an adult physically as Wendy was a peado's dream. Yuck)
It would add an interesting twist that Merle somehow got Wendy and Bloke to follow Bram (maybe she knew he was secretly driving while banned) as part of the car crash scam as it seemed they were ludicrously lucky to have hit wealthy Bram who had issues with being banned from driving.

Butteredtoast55 · 15/03/2022 22:15

Was Fi as irritating in the book? She was still going on about making another house 'perfect' (by which I assume she meant painting it dark blue, matching it to her entire wardrobe and having so little light in it that you couldn't tell whether it was day or night) rather than actually rushing to greet her children, whose lives she put at risk by trying to drug a blackmailer instead of reporting the whole thing to the police.

A580Hojas · 16/03/2022 08:04

Just watched the last episode last night and I couldn't get my head around it, going to read back on this thread to see if you clever people can make it any clearer for me!

Meanwhile, the HOUSE. The house is on Colyton Road, London SE22 right next to Peckham Rye Park, which is where the park and cafe scenes were filmed. I'm not certain of the number but looking at Google Street View, I think it might be Oliver House - it has a blue plaque and windows are being cleaned on street view. I can't see any other houses on the road that have the globe shaped wall things (what are they called) either side of the gate like the house in the series. Anyway, that house caused a stir on our local forum for going up for sale with an asking price of £2m - in April 2009!

Chocomelon · 16/03/2022 10:08

This is interesting @A580Hojas

Knittingnanny2 · 16/03/2022 10:16

It’s huge! Why were the boys sharing a bedroom????

It’s No 5 Colyton Rd, it’s double fronted and must be huge.

In the interior scenes, you can see a doorway in the left hand wall of the hallway by the hall table, when looking towards the front door.

Earlier in the thread I posted a screenshot of the house from the TV programme, and it’s definitely this house - House Beautiful had pretty much given the filming location away. You can see they covered up the blue plaque with a brown disc.
