I knew there was more to him as soon as RPJ turned up. I said that they aren't going to waste him as a mere love interest.

And how is Buket Komur's character called Wendy? That's hilarious. Grin

It's always the giveaway when they use a well known face. I'd maybe have fallen for it if they'd used an unknown.
the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 12:20

It can't be the best book of this genre to make into a tv drama because in a book people think that Toby and Mick are two separate people ( I've not read it , but it's clear that's how the storyline would play out in a book )
Plus we also found out it was Merle who shagged Bram, again , it's a teaser as in a book format as the author can keep that from you much easier.
I guess they could have kept her a secret , but the two different men thing isn't as easy to do ( unless they never showed Mick as Fi's love interest at all ?)

zafferana · 10/03/2022 12:26

Oh yes @Blondeshavemorefun I'd forgotten about that!

@Rosehugger I know - ridiculous. She looks Turkish or Middle Eastern and she's called Wendy FFS? Either cast someone who's likely to have that name, or change the name of the character to fit the actress you've cast.

Why wouldn't she be called Wendy?
rosesarebluey · 10/03/2022 12:32

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches

Did they explain how they came to own a £2m house, with only a v small mortgage? I missed some snippets.
They bought years ago. House prices have risen massively.
StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 10/03/2022 12:37

Even if house prices had doubled in their decade of ownership I'm still puzzled as to how they afforded a £1m house back then. But that's the way of these dramas! I thought the semi his mum lived in would have been more likely, but it doesn't make for as glam interior shots admittedly.

zafferana · 10/03/2022 12:39

Agree @StrychnineInTheSandwiches. The last time you could get a place in London that size that a young couple could afford and do up was the mid-late 90s. House prices in London have been crazy for at least 20 years so again, not believable. Initially, I assumed they were in some other big city, but then they said 'get the tube' and I thought - you're kidding me!

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 12:39

I doubt that Toby / Mick and Wendy would want Bram's mum's place and her salad tongs : it looked nice enough , but not worth millions!

JaneJeffer · 10/03/2022 12:43

If only I had a time machine.

Because the character in the book is called Wendy.
Blondeshavemorefun · 10/03/2022 12:45

Oh she really is a Wendy 😂😂

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 12:49

Wendy is annoying me so much , her pouting and the way she stares at Bram kind of sideways !!

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 12:58

Started a spoiler thread on telly addicts
Can't do links, sorry !
Only for anyone who has seen the final one

dannydyerismydad · 10/03/2022 13:46

Wendy is an occurring theme.

Annoying voice lady. Shagging in the Wendy house, wendy wanting to steal Fi's house.

It's all about Wendy Houses.

IcedPurple · 10/03/2022 14:20

@Candlecassie

Wrongly cast. No chemistry between the two main characters at all.

I watched the final part last night. I have many questions. It will be interesting to see what you all think once it’s been on TV.

Yes. Zero chemistry between them. I just can't imagine them as a couple at all, even in the good days. Maybe that's how the characters are written but I doubt it.
kindlyensure · 10/03/2022 14:22

Ooh. and she asks Bram to meet her in a burger bar (when 'Mike' turns up). Nice Wendy spotting!

dannydyerismydad · 10/03/2022 14:26

Waiting to see if Merle or one of the other friends had a hand in setting this up. Going for a hat trick of Wendying

Rosehugger · 10/03/2022 15:38

I think that, not Merle but the one who suggested bird-nesting (I've only watched two).

Laburnam · 10/03/2022 15:50

The two leads are totally miscast, acting on both sides is wooden and dire. Quite liked the book but just hasn't translated well to TV imo

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/03/2022 16:01

Huge plot hole I didn't think of before now.
In episode one the house is completely empty.
Wouldn't Merle ( who lives opposite them ) have seen Bram and the removal men moving things out and warned Fi ? Or any one of her other neighbours?
I always notice removal vans blocking up the roads here ! There wasn't a for sale sign up , wouldn't someone have noticed how weird this was ? ..

Also, normally it takes weeks or months to go from signing the deeds to actually being able to move into your new house. Here it seems to have happened practically overnight. The new owners must have top notch conveyancers.
