@JaneJeffer @LadyEloise1 Virgin Media Player have all 4 episodes up! Just came across it today :-)

Choccy21 · 10/03/2022 16:32

A few plot holes. Bram isn’t a very Scottish name is it? I’ve never heard of it.
Also is it likely his whole family moved from Scotland to London, as his mother also lives close by?
How did the con artist couple find out about Bram and Fi? And how would they set up such a complicated plan? How would lift man set his plan up that Fi would fall in love with him so he could con her ! So far fetched !
Also , I don’t see how they would afford a house do that price, even a decade ago.
And I don’t think any of the characters gel together, the cast doesn’t work.

kindlyensure · 10/03/2022 16:35

Yes, and also, where has he moved all the stuff TO?! I mean all her lovely silky clothes. And the lego the boys got for Christmas. Not to mention the furniture. Bonkers.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 10/03/2022 16:40

I read the book when it first came out, so knew Bram was blackmailed into it. I remembered nothing else - not Toby as boyfriend/Mike as villain, or the ending. (Will be interested to see what others think of that.)

I must have blocked it from my memory because it was so daft.

ValerieCupcake · 10/03/2022 16:43

@the80sweregreat

Huge plot hole I didn't think of before now. In episode one the house is completely empty. Wouldn't Merle ( who lives opposite them ) have seen Bram and the removal men moving things out and warned Fi ? Or any one of her other neighbours? I always notice removal vans blocking up the roads here ! There wasn't a for sale sign up , wouldn't someone have noticed how weird this was ? ..
I think the answer to that is in the final episode. I saw it last night, but have forgotten most of it already.
Knittingnanny2 · 10/03/2022 16:46

@kindlyensure I always think that when someone is thrown out/storms off etc in soaps! One suitcase with their life in it. I always think where are their books/ paperwork/hairdryer/sewing machine/winter coat/boots/photos etc. I get it if it’s a quick escape but not a planned move
When I moved home when my boys were little they begged me not to dismantle the huge complicated lego models!

Papergirl1968 · 10/03/2022 16:49

Bram is a Scottish/Irish/Gaelic name apparently, Choccy.
As others have said, Bram and Fi just don't look a realistic couple to me. She's too tall for him, too cold, too posh, whereas he is more normal. The scenes where he interacts with the boys looked far more natural. Although that sex scene with Wendy was just awkward!
I think Bram will have diverted the money into another bank account he set up, get Fi back and live happily ever after.

I get the feeling the BBC just wanted Martin Compston for the role, despite the fact that he's clearly miscast.

Thanks so much. I missed most of last night's episode because I feel asleep waiting for the footie to end Grin

This is on ITV!! I don't think he is that bad, the one playing Fiona is quite wooden. Most annoying is the Wendy character though ! I hope she might meet a sticky end!!
IcedPurple · 10/03/2022 17:47

@the80sweregreat
Of course you're right! It's ITV. But same applies. I think they just wanted Martin Compston despite him being clearly wrong for the role, at last with this actress. I agree that Tuppence is very wooden too. She's the same in every scene. The only thing that changes are her sleeveless outfits.

Clawdy · 10/03/2022 18:23

Have read the book but can't remember storyline apart from the beginning! Apparently the last line of the book is a twist, too!

NancyPickford · 10/03/2022 18:26

In the episode last night we saw his passport with his name as Abraham, so Bram is his shortened version. Big error though, it showed his birthplace as 'Greenock, England', when it should have been 'Greenock, Scotland'. As for his whole family moving from Scotland to England - this happened in my family. Mother, sister and me all moved (separately) and settled near to each other.

TheChosenTwo · 10/03/2022 19:01

I honestly read the book and laughed my head off the whole way through, it was crap - man does something wrong, man cocks up trying to cover his tracks, man cocks up even more trying to save his arse making things worse, he cocks up more, things get worse and and then… BOOM! It all collapses down on him.
I read better material looking through year 6 literacy books Grin
But it was lighthearted enough to read easily, not much thought required!

IcedPurple · 10/03/2022 19:16

It kind of reminds me of the discussion about the 'The Woman in the House Across the Road...' on Netflix. Many didn't realise that it was a spoof, because the plot really wasn't all that much more outlandish than the plot in 'serious' thrillers such as this one.

kindlyensure · 10/03/2022 19:26

True - and that's why the Woman in the House worked so well (imho!) The plot was SO ridiculous but because it was a spoof you could forgive it and enjoy it for the crazy it was.
Our House is just ridiculous - and no spoof!

Ah well, maybe they'll pull it all together in the end and it will all make sense!

I'm glad someone else spotted this!
ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 10/03/2022 19:30

Martin Compston himself is from Greenock isn't he?

Yes, he is.
Lookingforatimeslip · 10/03/2022 20:57

So many questions….

  1. Why so much dark paint?
  2. how did the cons pick bram to scan?
  3. how did they know where Bram would be and follow him? How did they know he’d cause an accident? Or was it just plain chance?
  4. who was babysitting the boys when she and Toby came home?
  5. Is the copper a real copper?

I read the book years ago but can’t remember the ending. Not overly fond of the series. All a bit unrealisitic.

SydneyCarton · 10/03/2022 21:00

I’m pretty sure that the charge wouldn’t be manslaughter for Bram, it would be death by dangerous driving (pedant).

So if RPJ as Toby isn’t doing the ultimate scam with Fi, and it wasn’t her who tipped him off as to where and where Bram would be driving to set up the accident, then yes, how would RPJ as Mike and Wendy know to target him, and that he has a multi million pound house for grabs? Unless their con is setting up accidents and they happened to get lucky with him? They’d have his registration number and probably dodgy ways of searching it, and once they realise he’s got the mega bucks house decide to go for it.

SydneyCarton · 10/03/2022 21:06

Do we think he’s entered a different account number and she’s not checked it?

JaneJeffer · 10/03/2022 21:08

I'm getting timeline confusion

I wondered that
