Ok new drama for next week starting Monday 7th

With martin compson from Lod, the nest, traces and Virgil

As newly weds, fi and bram brought and furnished their dream home

As time goes by the have 2 kids but end up getting a divorce

Fi has them weekdays and bram weekends

Fi arrives home from work to find a couple moving into her home, tho she had no idea it was for sale let alone sold

Tho not sure how a house cAn be sold if her name is on the mortgage

Twists and turns and lots of flashbacks as story is told in present and last

In the book Fi does know its Merle she catches them at it like in the TV version. It's the reader who doesn't know its Merle until near the end.
The conversation on the beach happens at the end of the book but Fi has known all along. She goes on the half term holiday because she doesn't want to spoil it for the kids and the friendship group.

Fi doesn't phone Bram to come round either on the night of the crash. In the book he drives round in the car for months while banned. He's a right cocky twat in the book he's much nicer in the TV show.

Tuppence Middleton is very one note. She seems to have only one facial expression.

Having read the book I can’t believe I didn’t know Toby and Mike were the same person till the last chapter!

Just catching up (watched yesterdays episode this evening).

It’s definitely double fronted - here is a snapshot from the opening of Episode 2 which shows the house. It’s attached to the property on the right, so it’s a semi.

In the interior scenes, you can see a doorway in the left hand wall of the hallway by the hall table, when looking towards the front door.

You can actually work out which house it is in real life given the hints dropped by House Beautiful.

Oh, and PP was right - it was still an absolute fortune to buy 12 years ago.

Tuppence Middleton is very miscast in this, and some of the clothing choices are weird. She looks more like she's on a catwalk than going to the park with the kids. She doesn't fit with the mum group at all and has no chemistry with Compston at all, I find them unbelievable as a couple, even when they were meant to be happy. There was a huge contrast when she met the Penry Jones character.

Who was looking after the kids when she returned with Toby and he asked to use the loo but then bizarrely wandered round the house checking it out? There didn't appear to be a babysitter to be seen.

Agree with pp she does not fit with the mum group at all, too sour faced and boring.

Such a far fetched, convoluted story. Still vaguely watchable though.

Yes, it is watchable as long as you suspend belief ! Quite a bit of what we're seeing isn't really credible . Enjoying it still though !

Yes, that's why I keep thinking she's in on it, because she is remarkably flat. Even when she was in 'turmoil' about the house confusion, it seemed to be the camera spinning round and jaunty angles that conveyed the panic. Her face was quite immobile.

And yes, also who WAS looking after the kids when she came back from her hot date weekend. And did she not think it was a bit of a red flag when Toby/Mike/RPJ started bouncing around her house looking in all the rooms? That was bonkers. Does nothing phase her?!

And why did Bram (who keeps telling us all how much he loves his kids and her and his one redeeming quality so we are led to believe is how much of a great dad he is) not fess up then and say, look this guy is not who you think he is. H'e's actually called Mike? Try googling him!

I agree that Fi's clothes are all wrong in many scenes. The one in the park where she and Bram are playing football with the kids and she's in a long silk skirt and a top with no bra??? Similarly, the scenes where all the mums are together - they all seem really normal, relaxed, dressed down - but she's all quiet and po-faced and dressed like a model.

The casting of Middleton and Compson is just odd too. She's posh and aloof and he's down to Earth and Scottish. She and Penry Jones are a much better match, yet Penry Jones is supposed to be a con who's been to prison. I don't get the dynamic between Wendy character and Penry Jones either - how on Earth did those two meet and what's their connection? It's never made clear.

Bram is definitely a Paul or a Graham. Not a Bram.

I suspect it's the actress. Her aloof style worked well in The Lady Vanishes as it suited the character but maybe it's all she can play.

Love her clothes though and don't care if they're not exactly practical for the situations.

The other huge issue I have is how come this couple of cons targeted Fi and Bram in the first place and know so much about them, since they appear to have no connection to either of them? How does Toby/Mike know about Bram cheating on Fi back in uni? The whole premise of the story is so ridiculous.

Yes RPJ would have been a better arrogant, smooth talking Bram and Compston a more believable conman.

Yes her clothes are very nice, I really like the leather jacket and grey jumper dress. But yeah the braless silk top in the park was really ridiculous.

I think Gugu Mbatha-Raw who was in The Girl Before recently would have been great as Fi Lawson.

The way Bram launches his slobbery self at poor Fi, no wonder she's stiff and aloof and needs a bottle of wine to psyche herself up.

Sorry, even when Steve slips himself back into that waistcoat the illusion is now ruined.

Re knowing about Bram cheating twice. Bram told con woman the first night they met before he know she was a con woman that he'd cheated twice but Fi had forgiven him the first time. She will have told Toby which is why the cliff hanger in episode 3 is Toby mentioning it to Fi. She knew she hadn't told Him so maybe now Fi will start to sus he's not all that he seems.

Did they explain how they came to own a £2m house, with only a v small mortgage? I missed some snippets.

House price inflation in the last ten years?

If it's a £2m house though no way would they be birds nesting or whatever it's called. You could buy two houses for that easily or a house and a flat and have no mortgage even in London.

💯 agree with this. Such an odd casting, surely the dynamic between Bram & Fi was absolutely key?? And yes, Fi really does not fit with that friendship group, completely different demeanour.
