I think he was Toby when he was with Fi but had another name for the dodgy dealings? If my book had been illustrated I’d have worked it out quicker!

kindlyensure · 08/03/2022 23:24

So they were the dodgy drivers who caused the crash, but someone else must have tipped them off to target the guy with the big house who's going through a divorce. So who else is in on it? Tuppence? Lady boss? Merle?

AnyFucker · 09/03/2022 03:26

This is crap, but compulsive

I don’t know what the wee Scottish guy is thinking, tbh. He must need the money.

Once you've all watched it you should read the book it's so much better.

kindlyensure · 09/03/2022 07:43

Blondes, I mean Bram.

The car accident was a set-up by presumably lift-guy and little-voice.But lift-guy hadn't met Fi at that point (or commented 'nice house', which in retrospect we know he had already clocked her 'nice house's coz he was scamming Bram by then)

SO someone must have alerted the dodgy pair to the 'nice house' and the fact it might soon be on the market as part of a divorce settlement.

Boss-lady seems v interested in his marriage status. Does she really fancy him.or is she the 'fixer'?

Gilmorehill · 09/03/2022 07:55

I’ve read the book and have only just started the series. My first thought is that Tuppence Middleton is too young for the role.

I'll keep an eye out for it in the library. Are her other books good?
Ineedastyleicon · 09/03/2022 08:11

Yes I've read most of her other books and liked them, she's a good writer.
I agree Fi should be older, they both should.

dayswithaY · 09/03/2022 08:12

But why wouldn't you just say "Ok, go to the police" instead of giving them your £2 million house? How bad would that be, would he even get a jail sentence for dangerous driving and what proof do they have, anyway?

This is when these ITV dramas forget about common sense and get stupid.

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2022 08:17

Yes @dayswithaY they also drove away from the scene so it's their word against his.

FloraFoxx · 09/03/2022 08:25

'what proof do they have, anyway?'
Yes when she first said she knew it was him, rather than give her chapter and verse on what led to it why didn't he deny and see what evidence she had. The road was deserted, presuming they were in the car that was driving erratically you'd still want to see what footage she had before admitting it all.

Tuppence (what a name) is a terrible actress but it's all quite interesting. Think it's funny the cheating friend would bother babysitting when tuppence understandably loathes her.

kindlyensure · 09/03/2022 08:25

Yes agree about the youthful looks. In The Holiday they were gathered to celebrate a 40th birthday when the cast looked nearer 50. Here, one friend mentions turning 45 when they all look closer to turning 40. Perhaps they should have switched casts.

Also they are doing that really annoying thing again of starting to tell someone something and then stopping. So Bram was going to fess to Fi about the accident but she's all like yeah yeah I know what you're going to say, don't need to hear it, just wash the sheets.

Just listen fgs!

ilovebrie8 · 09/03/2022 08:32

Definitely a setup but as others said who tipped them off...the girl doing the blackmailing is Judy awful and I doubt Steve would just hook up with her randomly ....at least his wife going for a drink etc with Rupert PJ is more plausible!!

ilovebrie8 · 09/03/2022 08:34

It’s a big leap too from some money to keep quiet as they supposedly saw the accident...to we want your house! They caused it as they were in the other car so just as guilty as Steve Hmm

kindlyensure · 09/03/2022 08:35

Also, I saw a review in the Independent (which slated it btw) but referred to Martin LOD as a 'horny chipmunk' and now this is all I can see.

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2022 09:39

Merle might have tipped off Helium voice and that man that house will be up for sale soon ? Then a bit miffed that it wasn't !!
Or that woman who Bram works with, she seemed keen to sleep with him too.
Or someone linked to the car , someone has clearly died in that accident and he didn't report it ?

Papergirl1968 · 09/03/2022 11:31

Eh, who's Steve? You mean Steve Arnott from LOD aka Bram in Our House?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2022 11:31

As usual it keeps us guessing

And why is she dependent on neighbours for babysitting? Didn't she say the boys were aged 7 and 10 or something like that? It's not like they're newborns. Surely she'd have an actual babysitter she could call up, rather than the woman whose relationship with her husband destroyed her marriage?

Exactly what I thought. Started watching episode 3 on the hub and stopped as it was annoying me so much. A combination of a totally unbelievable story line, bad acting, don’t care about any of the characters. Moany Myrtle helium woman was the last straw.

Because it is based on a book, and that is what happened in the book, not that ITV have put together an implausible drama themselves.
ClariceQuiff · 09/03/2022 12:57

@Knittingnanny2

How did he dispose of the car and how can he claim on the insurance? I must have missed that bit and can’t remember that bit in the book
He just parked it somewhere out of the way and claimed it had been stolen.
Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2022 13:00

Assume he set fire to it as well

@Blondeshavemorefun

Assume he set fire to it as well
He didn't seem to set fire it to - it just showed him standing next to the car in some dark lay-by, hurling the keys away. He didn't in the book, although I know the series isn't 100% faithful.
