@Romeiswheretheheartis

That was such an anti climax - I was bored throughout the second half.

Tim really can't act, can he Hmm

It made me laugh though that Trixie's fella got himself into the group photo at the end!

Has he been the same actor for Tim from the beginning?

DH pointed out that he’s forgotten all about his limp and need for callipers.

Pink98 · 20/02/2022 22:10

What I never understand is that Sister Monica Joan has been suffering dementia for over a decade yet it’s never progressed and aside from a few quirks she’s sharp as a tack. It’s a misrepresentation of the disease

Yes poking out from the staircase balustrade

And the picture of Trixie.

Timmy is an awful actor

I thought it was very anticlimactic. I thought that at least one major cast member would die. Such dramatic events normally are used as a way to get rid of people when their contact is up

Toddlerteaplease · 20/02/2022 22:12

I was a bit surprised that Phyllis wasn't more sympathetic to Nancy when she dragged her out if bed the next morning. She was in the crash. She needed TLC as much as everyone else.

Tonight's episode was sponsored by PG Tips. Everyone was continually having a nice cup of tea.

Phyllis behaved just like any sister would've done back then. No room for personal feelings, all about professionalism, duty, and rolling your sleeves up.

It was still like this when I was a student nurse

playmelikeasymphony · 20/02/2022 22:24

I’m annoyed about the Reggie is a hero on the front page bit. In reality, even now ableism is a thing and a reporter who was looking for an angle like that one was wouldn’t have believed he could be a hero.

CandleRose · 20/02/2022 22:27

I liked the episode, I'm glad they didn't kill any of the main characters off. TBH I am happy it finished on a good note. Now I can rest easy until the Christmas special. Smile

She had UTIs, did she not? As far as I understood, it was never really confirmed that she had dementia. A UTI in older people can make them really confused - my work colleague's mother apparently gets incredibly disorientated and really quite unstable and once she's been on antibiotics a few days she is totally back to normal. Could be now that Sister MJ has surrendered to Dr Turner's mould pills she's a lot better in herself.
carriemathisonshandbag · 20/02/2022 22:30

That was a bit of an anti climax, although it did keep me guessing. The biggest bit of drama was when Matthew loosened his tie and his hair gel started to lose its grip. Also, yet another episode without his child, the poor thing must have forgotten what he looks like.

AppleKatie · 20/02/2022 22:30

Completely agree- it’s just jarring to have that truth amongst all of the other anachronisms- ‘reggie the hero’ ‘all major characters survive’ ‘mr alywood just happens to be passing when all major incidents occur’ etc…

Love it though- emotional rollercoaster tonight

Emmelina · 20/02/2022 22:33

That was all a bit anticlimactic for the build up. I wonder - did they film two endings and show the one that fewer people guessed at?

Joystir59 · 20/02/2022 22:33

@Shimmyshimmycocobop

That was so disappointing, was really hanging out for a death of one of the characters Dr Turner preferably

Tim's "acting skills" consist of looking startled and that seem to be the limit of his range.

I think the actor playing Tim has been cast on account of his resemblance to Dr Turner rather than because of his acting skills
Pink98 · 20/02/2022 22:34

I don’t know, I think when Call the Midwife started the actress who played her did an interview talking about how her husband had dementia and how sister MJ had it too, wasn’t sure if a dementia diagnosis existed in the 50s tho. She’s has UTI’s but I think there’s been a general overarching ‘confusion’ too, like her interest in the spirit world as a nun and the other nuns blind acceptance of that, I’d put down to dementia

AtlasPine · 20/02/2022 22:35

A friend of mine lived in London as a child. His older sister died before he was born in the fifties at 3 - a tragic accident. They had no money as a family and she was buried in someone else’s grave, alongside the child from a wealthier family who had paid for a plot and a gravestone for their child.

My friend managed to find his sister’s resting place some years ago through finding the grave of the wealthier child - which gave his mother great comfort before her own death. She has never known where her daughter was buried. I don’t know if that was commonly done, but strangely comforting that neither child was buried on their own.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 20/02/2022 22:42

OMFG, what a let down.

I wanted some DRAMA. I got NOTHING!

This whole series has been seriously disjointed and boring.

Phyllis was brought back to do Phyllis does best, be the rock and rally everyone into action. The message was that there was no time for sympathy or self pity there was work to be done.
Clawdy · 20/02/2022 22:47

I was relieved and disappointed at the same time that we didn't lose a major character! And just wish they had played Bob Lind's version of "Elusive Butterfly " instead the Val Doonican one.....

gingergiraffe · 20/02/2022 22:48

The burying of a stillborn child slant is true. I have a friend whose sibling was stillborn and buried with another unrelated person. This would have been around 70 years ago. I can remember his mother, since passed herself, saying how she regretting not knowing where her child was buried and who with.

EngimaticDisappearance · 20/02/2022 22:51

St Matthew, Patron Saint of Slumlords turns out to have medical training.

Which he never mentioned before.

Diagnosing compound fractures and sneaking into the staff photo.

He'll be mansplaining with the best of them by Christmas.

AtlasPine · 20/02/2022 22:54

Love how May and the other female child whose name I have forgotten were nurses and Teddy the doctor in the role play game the children played at the end. Glad they didn’t misrepresent exactly how we were encouraged to play in the late 60s. Girls - know your place!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 20/02/2022 23:01

The stillborn baby just being taken away and the mum not being allowed to see her or know what was going to happen her was very much what happened then I think. My Nan had twins, one of whom was stillborn, the baby was taken away and she was told to be grateful that she had one alive child 😪 She never ever got over it.

It was a bit of an anticlimax, I thought sister Julienne was going to die and the baby would be buried with her.

I also thought there was more people in their carriage other than sister julienne, dr mansplain and the tea lady?

Also what was the point of Phylis leaving only to return a couple of weeks later, did she have to self isolate in rl or something?!

Zonder · 20/02/2022 23:02

Interesting tweet from Stephen McGann tonight.

TrashyPanda · 20/02/2022 23:03

I am sooooo glad Sr Julienne is Ok and that wonderful Phyllis was not on the train. Was hopeful DrT had a brain injury and might shuffle off, but no such luck.

Surprised the amazing Dr T did not notice he still had his wedding ring on - a huge NO with a broken arm/wrist.

Laughed at the way flashy guy insinuated his way into the photo at the end. Could they make it any more obvious he is going to marry Trixie?

Why did he stay the night at Nonatus House? He could afford to get a taxi and go home, rather than imposing himself on the nuns, who had more than enough to cope with.

TrashyPanda · 20/02/2022 23:05

@PriamFarrl

Well I loved it. I know it’s bollocks but I don’t care. And me and DH had a little cry at the idea of the baby going in the coffin. We lost our only baby at 14 weeks.
I’m so very sorry
