Just watched this and it's given me the absolute rage, what a fucking vile excuse for a human

What is it then

Documentary on Netflix about coercive control, fraud and in short a disgusting man who has and is still destroying countless lives, horrible bastard.

Just watching now, un-fucking-believable.

Those poor kids, poor Sarah. I just can't even fathom the motive, okay I know it's money and power, but some of these are long cons that go on for years, it's not like he takes the money n runs off to live am exciting lifestyle, he just does it again!!

I did get a bit confused in the doc, when the son said she came on the live court trial. So he saw her?! And they explained that Sarah dad was looking for her but what about the other students?!

There’s a book! I read it ages ago, in 2003 or thereabouts, that has a great account of it all from Sarah. I got it secondhand on Amazon if I remember correctly. Well worth a read.

Wasn't Sarah's dad awesome ? His brain was as sharp as anything! And his map ! Brilliant!

She was at the court hearing but on video link only.

We watched it last night, absolutely unbelievable, that he had such control over these men & women, and got his original sentence quashed. Those poor kids without their mum, I just wanted to hug them. Sarah’s dad was awesome, never gave up, 10 bloody years!

Yeah I know what you mean but as he said that creature had her convinced they were trying to steal from her so he probably knew it would have been pointless, hopefully this documentary will change things but it seems she is now totally under his control, so sad for those kids and her now deceased parents, that story about her Dad made me weep.

Sarah's dad was amazing and so articulate to be able to describe what he did and how it felt.

If I saw this in a drama I'd have written it off as far fetched.

It was interesting how he used the same techniques over the years.

When you think those children’s grandparents worked their whole lives to be able to leave their daughter an inheritance and now that vile creature will take it all, it’s beyond disgusting

I wonder how she would feel if she watches the documentary. Surely that would change things and open her eyes! The whole thing was a madness. God knows what else he may have done that has never come to light

I still don't understand how he could convince someone for 10 years that they were being chased by the IRA. Am I missing something?

Esp when you've done nothing wrong... but I think it shows what a master manipulator he is. Even the whole dog business was such a convoluted way to make money. I've read of men who charm women, take their money and then ghost them. But this seemed to be much more psychological game playing.

and also was wondering why Sarah pic wasn't being shared as a missing person or even by her parents? Unless they were worried if they did that she'd come to harm.

And now this documentary has been made anyone who lives near them, works with them (Robert and sandra) will know what he's upto...

That's it exactly OP, when you have done nothing wrong. I don't understand it. Like HOW would you believe this and go on the run like that. for TEN years? Knowing you have no ties to the IRA and you have done nothing wrong? You just leave college and fuck off with this man for 10 years? I will never understand how that happened.

Am not old enough to remember the IRA, but I suppose if there's people being killed around you then you might think you could be next and he played on that?
Also reminded me so much of women on MN who claim to have dated MI5 spies...m

But no people you know, just random terrorist attacks. I honestly don't get it. HOW can anyone be that gullible.

I think a good piece of life advice is if someone tells you they're a spy (MI5, CIA etc etc then they're not!).

A not dissimilar case is is that of Will Jordan but he seemed to marry a lot of his victims (his story has been written by one of his wives, Mary Turner Thompson - The Bigamist).

Whilst these scammers do do it for the money so they can live a lavish lifestyle with someone else's money I think a lot of it is about power and control A bit like a cat playing with a mouse, seeing how far they can push someone. Seeing what they can get someone to believe and they are clever. In the case of Freeguard the local college had been connected to the IRA and initially the women were told that one of their boyfriends was dying. Ten days later they were fed the IRA story but who knows what else had gone on. There were IRA attacks going on all over the UK and they were zig zagging all over the UK so by the law of averages they would be close to or have recently left somewhere where there was an IRA attack that he could claim was directed at them or he had some inside knowledge of. He's a master manipulator.

He then did the classic of separating them so they were cut off from each other and friends and family. It isn't just as straight forward as saying that the IRA are after us let's go.

Just read the @therealrhf. Interesting despite his comments it's all him and not Sandra who allegedly is so desperate to tell the world the 'true story'. If she really had free enterprise Sandra would be the one taking to Twitter giving her story not him. He proves the point that he controls her by speaking for her.

Exactly what I thought, if Sandra wants to dispute all this let her talk, all of these denials coming through him, if it's a real account he's still pulling all the strings.

I find it quite terrifying that the victims identified in the series are probably not the only ones. Women could've just disappeared at this man's hands.

Just watched this, unbelievable that someone can manipulate others to such an extent. Sandra's poor kids I hope she manages to escape him one day and piece her life back together
