I keep hearing rumours but can't see anything set in stone. Does anyone know when the new series of PB starts?

You are right!
Hope he's back in it soon.

Thought the scenes between Ada and Diana were excellent last night.

XelaM · 14/03/2022 13:40

Ada is awesome 😎

And Tommy's story of marrying Grace and wanting to become legitimate is very similar to the Michael Corleone in the "Godfather" story and his marriage to the wrong woman (in Michael's case to the similarly annoying Kate) and for her striving to make the family business legitimate that was the beginning of his downfall.

Had Tommy not married Grace he would have been much happier

TheUsualShitshow · 14/03/2022 15:05

Well for starters she surely kept him awake all night with her bloody heavy breathing Grin

Chocolattay · 14/03/2022 15:38

Yeah I’d kill to see an alternate universe Peaky Blinders where he marries May and lives a nice life with her raising and training racehorses with a couple of children as well.

Though it probably wouldn’t have been as gripping as this Peaky Blinders Grin

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz

It goes through me. I heard it while eating my dinner and it almost put me off, as if she was next to me breathing on my dinner Grin

Ha! I imagine it would. Grin

For me, the saving grace of this series has been the women holding it together. I loved Ada in Sunday's episode, and Lizzie is great. Good to see Esme as well, though why they had to go on a trek to the graveyard is beyond me. Couldn't she have just told Tommy the story? Can't stand Gina though, she is awful.

XelaM · 14/03/2022 19:16

I quite like Gina Blush her dress sense is amazing

CPL593H · 14/03/2022 19:32

Nice to see Ada at the forefront again, loved the Shelby/Mitford standoff (which by my scoring, Ada won hands down) Stephen Graham again proved what a fine actor he is.

Tommy has got to get himself together and he hasn't a lot of time. Also, I thought I'd read more than once that Stephen Knight anticipated it ending on the eve of WW2; surely we're only up to about 1934?

TheUsualShitshow · 14/03/2022 19:41

Gina is picking up where Polly left off I think, irritatingly over-sexualised even when talking about what's for tea.

I'm pretty sure Ada made a comment about it being 1934 when she was talking to Diana. Loved Ada in last night's episode. Her clothes, hair and make up were gorgeous, especially the trouser suit and fob watch!
Haggisfish3 · 14/03/2022 19:49

Doesn’t it mirror life though, where people do lose status and verve as they get older and the young guns come through? I think Tommy will die.

TheUsualShitshow · 14/03/2022 19:55

I think he'll die too. He wants to really.

In a way it's such a sad programme, all these men broken by their way trauma, and unable to find their way back to normal life.

Haggisfish3 · 14/03/2022 20:02

I agree. I think it’s incredibly well done.

XelaM · 14/03/2022 20:07

It's the "lost generation" of Fitzgerald

Binglebong · 14/03/2022 20:15

There was one good thing about Grace... it led to this scene!

TottersBlankly · 14/03/2022 21:28

If Miquelon was actually Scotland that would explain why it looked so appealing!

I miss Polly dreadfully, through Ada’s trouser suit was reminiscent of her.

And good to see Esme again. (I don’t remember her in Detectorists!)

But what someone says above about the loss of the clan feeling in this series is sadly true. And that was part of what distinguished the show and made it magnificent. It’s painful to see the beautiful Arthur reduced to a shambling bit part.

Will stick with it as I’ve invested in a series pass - but it’s less gripping and fabulous than before.

TheUsualShitshow · 14/03/2022 21:55

She was Sophie in Detectorists, the young student who turned up out of the blue, and who Andy got a bit of a crush on for a bit.

Chocolattay · 14/03/2022 22:24

I want to like Gina and the actress but I just can’t. I fast-forwarded the scene of her and Tommy.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 15/03/2022 07:48

This just made me picture a scene of Gina and Nigella Lawson in the kitchen discussing dinner and sexualising all the cooking 😂
TheUsualShitshow · 15/03/2022 08:22

Haha totally the same energy Grin

MissBattleaxe · 15/03/2022 08:51

@Chocolattay Have you watched the Queen's Gambit? Anya Taylor Joy was incredible in it.

Personally, I think the show is less of an ensemble piece now. It's a dark monologue on one man's downfall with several walk on bit parts, apart from Ada who still shows some vintage Peaky Blinders arse kicking.

I did think that Diana Mitford's voice should have been posher, like the Queen when she was young. She sounds a bit modern.

TheUsualShitshow · 15/03/2022 09:24

I thought the bit where Lizzie, in the hospital, apologised for Tommy by saying 'he is recovering from addiction' was weirdly modern too. I don't think alcoholism was thought of/spoken of in those terms 90 years ago.

MissBattleaxe · 15/03/2022 09:56

@TheUsualShitshow I agree. It wouldn't have been a thing back then.

TheUsualShitshow · 15/03/2022 10:11

It's a shame because the writing has always been so good.
