I keep hearing rumours but can't see anything set in stone. Does anyone know when the new series of PB starts?

BOOTS52
Saw Cillian Murphy in grief is the thing with feathers in Dublin a couple of years ago, tough play about grief, he was outstanding, he truly becomes the character.

I loved the final episode was nervous beforehand in case I would be disappointed after following this series for 9 years but thought it was a great ending that left closure but at the same time left you wanting more which I guess is the objective if a film is being planned. I would like to think tommy, given a second chance of life, will cultivate his social conscious and fight for the rights of the workers Grin

BOOTS52 · 04/04/2022 23:49

Lucky you Dulra I can only imagine he was just brilliant and seeing him in person on stage must have been just great. My son does not think he will be in the film but he could make an appearance at the end. Hard to know as you said. It was good that he organized all the housing for working class people to be built where he blew up his mansion. His acting just breathtaking in this episode and to see all the worry lift from him when he knew he was not yet dying. Just a great written series with brilliant actors. Definitely something to watch back again in a few years as with my brain fog will forget it all ha!!

BOOTS52 · 04/04/2022 23:50

Thanks TottersBlankly I was thinking that but I often thought was Tommy in some doubt as to whether it was his son or not. Grace was beyond annoying and all that breathing of hers drove me insane!!!!!

PotatoFamily · 05/04/2022 00:01

What a stunningly beautiful final episode. The cinematography and the music and the writing were just superb. Loved it!

SmellyOldOwls · 05/04/2022 00:42

Just rewatched it. I can't believe how brilliant the final episode was. Might rewatch the series now that I know why certain things had to happen and it wasn't just endless misery for no reason. There was even hope for Arthur at the end.

hangsangwitch · 05/04/2022 09:47

I think Jonny Dogs had the best line in the whole episode, “I’m just off over here to look at the fog Tommy”!

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 05/04/2022 09:54

Ha definitely hangsangwitch 😂

All through out this series I thought it was Esme pulling the strings and finally getting her revenge on Tommy for John's death. But it was Oswald all along. He must have been poisoning Tommy in order to give him the fits and black outs he was experiencing. And did Mosley even have Ruby infected with TB? Because if I recall correctly Ruby was sick twice. The first time was at Christmas, when they were supposed to be traveling to meet Tommy in America. She recovered from that, and it was only after the doctor visited her the first time, that she seemed to developed TB. They gave her tests didn't they? which came back negative? Plus nobody else they knew seemed to have TB, considering it was a highly infectious and contagious disease that seems odd. What do other people think?

I’m going off on a tangent here, but has anyone watched the film Spencer about Diana? It’s on Amazon Prime at the moment. Hadn’t realised till I started watching it that the script was written by Stephen Knight the Peaky creator. Lots of similar Peaky themes in Spencer: isolation, madness, old houses with endless corridors and talking to dead people. Not sure what I think of the film but Kristen Stewart’s performance is phenomenal.

He's my favourite character he has had many a hilarious line throughout all the series.

Only watched the finale yesterday. What a gorgeous and fitting ending! I know a lot of people ha enter thought this series was as good as the rest but I have really enjoyed it.

The final episode to a series you love is always a bit scary to watch because you want it to be worthy. This really was. I was in tears several times and also the edge of my seat - Arthur in The Garrison and Tommy getting in to the car.

I loved the little mentions of Polly and John and Billy being caught out after suspicions he was the informant last series.

Also, though it wasn’t this episode I loved Ada’s speech to her son ‘so where will they take you?’ It was very powerful.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 05/04/2022 14:17

It’s not often a final episode to a long running series does it justice, but they did a stellar job this time!

I think Finn pretty much enjoyed the spoils of the life that Tommy, Arthur and the older generations had carved out through hardships and brutality. He didn’t have to endure the war and then fighting to survive afterwards. Coming into adulthood he had instant access to money, respect, women etc so ended up an entitled little twat with no loyalty. I think that’s why he cast out.

Some of my favourite characters are Jonny dogs, Charlie and Curly. So loyal and bring a human element to the show.

That's one of my very favourite books, I would have chopped my arm off to see Cillian Murphy in it.

I agree with that to a certain extent. He definitely bis entitled and spoilt. But that's partly Arthur's and Tommy's fault too. Viewing it from Finn's perspective though, It's all a bit much to suddenly have this long lost nephew foisted on you, and not only are you supposed to immediately accept him as family he's suddenly the head of the family. I think most people would struggle with that.

Inspirationpending · 05/04/2022 16:49

I was late to the show and have watched all the seasons over the last couple of years
Actually bereft that it’s come to an end.

The ending was almost perfect
Would have like to have seen Arthur & Tommy have a final scene.

As much as I love Cillian Murphy, I don’t think he needs to be in the film, it was a fitting end to his character.

Johnny's always been great for a bit of light relief. I did feel quite sad when he and Michael said goodbye to each other.
DarkFuckeryoftheHumanHeart · 05/04/2022 19:18

I feel a bit haunted by the final. The playing of 'All the tire horses' as Tommy gallops off on a white horse, the Essenes of the boy he once was before war changed him forever. I so wish there was more of Arthur this series, he looked absolutely dreadful though- so thin and wasted away. Ada was fab, and Lizzie broke my ❤️

I haven’t read the full thread but I thought this season absolutely dragged and found it so boring. I had to force myself to watch episode 4,5 and 6. I even thought there would be 10 episodes as it’s probably the last season and thought they were building a really strong storyline. I just found it really uninteresting. My friend said the same and we’ve both watched all season three times now.

Last episode was okay but still, nothing really shocked or interested me. I definitely think they should have left it the way it was on Season 5. I personally don’t think they need to make another season or a film

coldlistened · 05/04/2022 20:24

I finally got round to watching it and it was just brilliant. It wasn’t a tragic, depressing ending which I was expecting yet it also wasn’t an unconvincing contrived ending either. It was just right.

I’m glad Michael has gone to be with Polly.

The Ruby scene was lovely and had me in tears. Tommy is a changed man, and I think that was symbolised by him riding off into the hills on a white horse. I don’t think ‘happy’ is the word to describe it, I don’t think anybody could truly be happy after losing a child and all of the other trauma Tommy has been through, but I think he’s found a sort of peace and wants to wind everything down now.

Tommy did show emotion over Charlie when Charlie told Lizzie that Tommy didn’t feel like his dad. Tommy looked like he was trying to prevent himself from crying. I imagine he does remind him of Grace and the guilt he feels over that. He obviously does love him and knows that he’s best off with Lizzie. I’m happy Lizzie gets to keep Charlie as well and be a mother to him.

babywalker56 · 05/04/2022 20:26

I’m surprised at the amount of comments saying it was a brilliant last episode etc. I genuinely thought it was a 6/10, nothing more!

Quite disappointed that after all that time, nothing happened to Mosley. And the uncle Jack guy? No mention of him at all. It makes me think what was the point of all those episodes just for nothing to happen. Annoying

user1487194234 · 05/04/2022 20:28

Thought it was pretty perfect as an ending
Brilliant series

user1487194234 · 05/04/2022 20:29

Well nothing could really have happened to Moseley with him being a real person

coldlistened · 05/04/2022 20:34

Regarding the question of why Tommy doesn’t seem to bother with Charlie

Remember when Grace was alive Tommy had promised her that her and Charlie would always be safe. Only for Grace to die and then for Charles to be abducted by that priest and nearly be killed. Tommy was distraught when Charlie was kidnapped so he definitely does love him. But I think the distance is because he doesn’t want Charles to be tainted by him. He hinted at that in episode 5 when Duke questioned why he didn’t have plans for Charlie in the business rather than him. Tommy said “I have 2 sons, and there are two sides to my business, light and dark”. Duke is the ‘dark’ and is convenient to take over that dark side of a business, he’s a kid who’s grown up a thief and is angry at the world. Whereas Charles is Grace’s son and is probably on a pedestal in Tommy’s eyes, even if he outwardly isn’t affectionate with him.

This last season was definitely piss poor in comparison to the other 5.

And fair enough that he was a real person but then there shouldn’t have been all this build up about getting him out of the picture.
Especially since last season then boom, nothing happens to him at all. It’s like the storyline was just disregarded for whatever reason
