I keep hearing rumours but can't see anything set in stone. Does anyone know when the new series of PB starts?

To be fair all writers probably write in characters they don't expect to become recurring prominent figures.

MissBattleaxe · 17/03/2022 10:15

Yes the "tea for the kids" could have been John's kids.

TigerLilyTail · 17/03/2022 11:57

@MissBattleaxe

Yes the "tea for the kids" could have been John's kids.
I also think that's what she meant.
Ratatoo · 17/03/2022 20:31

Esme said she was taking the kids to be raised in the gypsy ways.

Lizzie only had Ruby.

SmellyOldOwls · 17/03/2022 21:20

@GingerFoxInAT0phat

Ah, I thought the reason she accepted Tommy’s offer for payment of sex when she had told John she wasn’t a prostitute anymore was because she needed to feed her kids.
It wasn't really made clear but I think we were meant to think she held a torch for Tommy even when she was courting John.

I think Uncle Jack Nelson is actually Joe Kennedy the patriarch of the US political dynasty. He was a fascist supporter who had an unhealthy nterest in Hitler. Robert Harris explores this in his novel Fatherland

MissBattleaxe · 18/03/2022 21:51

Yes I read somewhere that he was based on Joe Kennedy.

XelaM · 18/03/2022 23:31

Surely Joe Kennedy had more personality than that?!

And he was he was personally friends with Churchill. He wouldn't have needed

XelaM · 18/03/2022 23:32

Ahhh posted too soon. He was US ambassador to the UK and personally friends with Churchill (tried to convince him not to go to war with Hitler). He wouldn't have needed Tommy for any introductions

SmellyOldOwls · 19/03/2022 00:42

After Isaiah's scenes this week does anyone else think he's the black cat? And who do we think is the grey man? Seems a bit obvious for it to be Michael but PB has never really been a show for hidden meanings.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 19/03/2022 00:50

@XelaM You are correct but as there is a lot of artistic licence in Peaky Blinders, the addition of Joe Kennedy to the storyline would add an extra dimension especially as there are plans for a PB film which may continue into WW2. Joe Kennedy was portrayed as a bootlegger in Boardwalk Empire, he had fingers in lots of dodgy pies in real life and I don’t think historical accuracy is paramount in Peaky Blinders.
I also liked Grace btw and it could be when Lizzie refers to feeding the kids she was thinking about her younger brothers and sisters.

TottersBlankly · 19/03/2022 05:55

More and more I’m seeing the Peaky Boardwalk mash-up as an inevitability. They need to be brought together …

😍

XelaM · 19/03/2022 13:08

Never seen Boardwalk Empire, but now thinking I should watch it! Can you watch it for free anywhere?

The Kennedies are an absolutely fascinating family and I have been slightly obsessed with Bobby Kennedy when a bit younger Blush "The Ladies of Camelot" is a good lesser known film about them. It's interesting that Nelson is meant to be Joe Kennedy. I just thought he would have had more personality

XelaM · 19/03/2022 13:14

Talking about a "cursed" family! Isn't it said that a gypsy put a curse on the Kennedies when Joe evicted her family from their home? Grin

Thymeout · 19/03/2022 14:10

Xela I don't think Churchill would have introduced Joe Kennedy to
Mosley, which was the point of the meeting. Pre-war, Hitler had a lot of fans in the USA. There was an organisation called American First, echoes of Trump. Although appointed US Ambassador by Roosevelt, JK was an Appeaser and in favour of American neutrality. He resigned in 1940.
There's also a Mitford connection with the Kennedys. Kathleen (Kick) Kennedy married the heir to the Duchy of Devonshire. He was killed in the war, 4 months after the wedding, so Andrew, the second son, and Debo, his wife, eventually became Duke and Duchess. The families were close and Debo was invited to JFK's Inauguration and Funeral.

TigerLilyTail · 19/03/2022 14:27

Peaky Blinders is like historical fiction. They have to fictionalise certain historical events to fit around the characters of the show.

The next episode is called Sapphire. I can't wait!

MissBattleaxe · 19/03/2022 23:57

Nelson is only loosely based on a Joe Kennedy style character but I do agree that they could have cast someone with a bit more charisma.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 20/03/2022 00:13

Boardwalk Empire is available to download on Sky, only free if you have Sky already.

TottersBlankly · 20/03/2022 05:46

I watched it on Now. All five seasons available free (with subscription).

XelaM · 20/03/2022 06:41

Ohhh I have Sky!

dapsnotplimsolls · 20/03/2022 10:18

Did Ada have the baby she was pregnant with in the last series or an abortion?

TigerLilyTail · 20/03/2022 10:46

@dapsnotplimsolls

Did Ada have the baby she was pregnant with in the last series or an abortion?
She had a daughter who she called Elizabeth.
dapsnotplimsolls · 20/03/2022 21:06

Thank you.

Tillymintpolo · 20/03/2022 21:37

Totally lost

OnTheBoardwalk · 20/03/2022 21:51

I can’t believe there are only 2 episodes left after this one! They could have done all this story in one episode. Dragging out far too much without.

Agree Isiah is the one to watch out for although he better get a shift on!

Perky Blinders/Boardwalk mashup would be fantastic. If anyone hasn’t seen it I would really recommend it. Gave me my user name
