I keep hearing rumours but can't see anything set in stone. Does anyone know when the new series of PB starts?

OP posts:

@Chocolattay

They made a big deal of Ruby dying at 5:17pm. DH noticed the repetition of it and Googled it.

5:17 a bible verse which mentions “ the new creation has come, the old has gone, the new is here!”

I just find that interesting

Ooh that is interesting 🧐

Is anyone else underwhelmed by Uncle Nelson? There was so much talk about him, I expected him to be pure evil (like Oswald Mosley) but (a) he is much younger than I expected and (b) there is nothing special about him. He doesn't have an "aura" one would expect from his reputation

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 16/03/2022 08:45

Yes Xela, definitely underwhelmed by him. Especially if Stephen Graham has been wasted on a minor role.

TottersBlankly · 16/03/2022 09:19

Stephen Graham wasn’t entirely wasted! He looked wondrously handsome and glowy … (Hollywood is probably the word I’m searching for.) And I liked his ‘I’m too spiritually grand to be scared’ persona.

But, yeah … Nothing like his terrifying Boardwalk Al Capone.

This series has been disappointing so far. There doesn’t seem to be any charm left in it and no characters to root for. The family feel to it has vanished and along with any humour.

Didn’t Lizzie have loads of kids before, that’s why she was a prostitute so she could feed them? Where are they now?
I don’t think they are a good match at all, they don’t look good together and I find her whiny. Would have liked to have a seen a new romance for Tommy.

Finn seems to have disappeared. Ada and Esme really carried this last episode. I loved the battle of words between Ada and Diana.

Also surprised no other gangs have upended them, they seem so weak and disjointed. Would be ripe for a younger and hungrier gang to take over. Isiah seemed as though he could be on to something there.

I had hoped SG would be this character.

The actor playing him keeps slipping up on his accent which is annoying.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 16/03/2022 10:57

I think Isiah is watching and waiting ... the predictably slow mo shot of him introducing his gang and trying out his charms, and failing, on Ada make me think he had his eye on the empire.

Even Oswald Mosley seems to have become a bit soft too Confused almost sidelined.

Yeah they aren't a good match but then I think they weren't really supposed to be. Grace was his one and only love wasn't she and the show wants to remind us of that. He's always just been going through the motions wIth Lizzie. It's all been very miserable since Grace died, can't see it getting any less dark now that Polly and Ruby have died too.

Whatever happens at this stage I think we are in for a Line of Duty style unsatisfying ending.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 16/03/2022 16:50

Yes I agree Grace was his true love. I’m in the minority in that I liked Grace Blush

Didn’t John want to marry Lizzie originally ?

Binglebong · 16/03/2022 17:51

What happened to all John's kids when Esme left? I can't see the Shelby's letting her take them away (maybe at first when they were in danger but not after) and I have the it in the back of my head that they weren't all hers, that she was bought in in part to look after the kids he already had.

Also why do they think she would have stopped brushing her hair??? It was matted!

HemanOrSheRa · 16/03/2022 17:57

Yes. But I think Tommy was using Lizzie's 'services' and told Lizzie she couldn't marry John? She became Tommy's secretary. I thought that was the agreement for her not marrying John? She was a prostitute to earn money to provide for her children and that was the deal? John was married to Esme in an arrangement with the Lee family to bring the two families together and stop fighting. It was a few series ago so I'm a foggy on the finer details!

I remember Esme having a rant that she was taking the kids with her to be raised among decent people. So, the kids are with her. I don't think Tommy had much choice about the matter as there was a lot going on but perhaps he let them go as they'd be safer with Esme with the war with the Italians going on.
TigerLilyTail · 16/03/2022 18:03

Also, there has been quite a lot of time passed since it started, so I guess Lizzie's kids are adults now and doing their own thing.

Actually, I'm not sure she did have kids except for Ruby. Confused
Chocolattay · 16/03/2022 19:08

Yes Esme took John’s kids (I think she and John had a shared child as well but she took in his older kids. He was a widow at the start of the show.) to live as Gypsy’s with her family.

XelaM · 16/03/2022 20:36

John had 4 kids with his previous wife Martha who had died at the time the show started (this was in the first episode). He wanted to marry Lizzie, but Tommy, Polly and Arthur talked him out of it, as Lizzie was still sleeping with "regular clients" (including Tommy) despite John's proposal. Tommy then arranged for John to marry Esme to bring peace between the Shelby and the Lee families. Esme and John had at least 2 kids together (they had a child and then she was pregnant again). When John died, Esme took all the kids with her (including John's 4 kids from his previous marriage).

I'm not sure if Lizzie had any kids of her own apart from Ruby (I vaguely remember something being mentioned, but would have to rewatch the episode - I think it was the one where John was going to marry her).

Binglebong · 16/03/2022 23:02

I just can't see it, after what happened with Polly's two there's no way they'd let family out of contact.

Very impressed by your knowledge XelaM!

XelaM · 16/03/2022 23:24

But John's kids from the previous marriage are now orphaned, so Esme is the closest thing they have to a mother. At the time Esme took the kids there was the whole chaos with the Italians going on (Adrien Brody 😍 - please bring him back to life!) so I think it was more understandable as to why Tommy let the kids go with Esme

Chocolattay · 17/03/2022 05:26

I vaguely remember Lizzie mentioning that she’d had a previous abortion earlier on in the series? But I may have got that wrong.

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 17/03/2022 08:05

DD's recently binge watched it and she said Lizzie only had Ruby.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 17/03/2022 08:43

Ah, I thought the reason she accepted Tommy’s offer for payment of sex when she had told John she wasn’t a prostitute anymore was because she needed to feed her kids.

XelaM · 17/03/2022 10:01

I went back and had a look (Episode 4 of Season ) - when Tommy approached Lizzie on the street, she is carrying a basket 🧺 with food and says "for tea for the kids". But it doesn't say they are her kids. She could have been lodging with someone who had kids or they were her relatives' kids. It was no made clear and later there was no mention of her having any kids except Ruby
