It's back. Starts with a great recap of the fame and fallout of series 1's success.

OP posts:

The tumbling at TVCC was just incredible though, was it? I mean it was all incredible but the tumbling was just something else.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 18/01/2022 12:19

Monica was the 6th person to leave DWTS so she didn’t do too badly

StrangerThanSpring · 18/01/2022 13:02

Monica was on Dancing with the Stars with such celebrities as Chrishell from Selling Sunset and Carole Baskin from Tiger King, so it seems like yes one season of a random Netflix show is enough of a celeb to be on DWTS. 😂

CaveMum · 18/01/2022 13:14

Don’t DWTS do 2/3 seasons per year as opposed to our 1 series with Strictly? That’s a lot of “celebs” to have to find to fill the show.

madaki · 18/01/2022 20:58

So, after googling the NCA Daytona competition, it seems that Navarro and TVCC were the only 2 teams in their category.
So are they that amazing at cheer? Or the only junior colleges to do cheer?

sociallydistained · 18/01/2022 21:11

Just finished it and I really started rooting for the other team as soon as we got to Dee and his brothers backstory. Just found their whole family endearing and was rooting for Dee at the end.

Sounds a right waste of time and money to go all that way if you're only competing against the team next door.
WeDontTalkAboutBrunoNoNoNo · 18/01/2022 23:26

@jay55 It looks like there is going to be a Season 2 for Last Chance U focusing on the same team, can't wait!

It always made me laugh when the coach would kick off about something and throw a wobbly but the team always seemed fairly chilled about it because they knew he just wanted the best for them. When they imitated him on the retreat I laughed so much!

I found a lot of the players really likeable too, I had a real soft spot for Joe and DeShaun in particular.

Anyway, let me not derail the thread, I'll start a Last Chance U thread when Season 2 is out Grin

Back to Cheer, Season 2 definitely had a different feel about it than Season 1, theres something that just feels very off about the Navarro vibe. I was glad they focussed on TVCC as well, they really were a breath of fresh air. They seemed a lot more at ease with each other as team mates, the relationship between the team and the coaches felt a lot less them vs us than Navarro IMO

XelaM · 19/01/2022 08:07

So all this time Navarro and TVCC were only competing with each other? Kind of puts a different spin to Navarro's 14 rings if they only ever had to compete against 1 team Confused Surely that can't be right?

BitcherOfBlakiven · 19/01/2022 09:11

That and the point difference is TINY so they’re hardly the superstars they think they are.
sociallydistained · 19/01/2022 10:32

Ridiculous they're only competing against each other 🙈

CaveMum · 19/01/2022 11:30

According to this article the NCA split the “Junior CoEd College” division into Advanced and Intermediate according to the level of stunts being performed and Navarro and TVCC were the only ones to stay in Advanced.

IntermittentParps · 19/01/2022 14:53

Haven't read thread properly in case of massive spoilers, but is it worth watching if I mainly liked Monica and Jerry last time?

BitcherOfBlakiven · 19/01/2022 15:25

Jerry is a paedophile so no.

IntermittentParps · 19/01/2022 15:42

FUck. Oh no. How awful.

It is worth watching, but forget Jerry.
sociallydistained · 19/01/2022 17:05

Jerry was my fave too in S1. We weren't to know.

Dee was my new fave this season.

Idontevenknow · 19/01/2022 17:36

Competing against each other just the 2 teams, isn't at simple at it sounds. Cheer teams can pick the category they want to enter, but have to be able to perform certain stunts, skills etc. Theoretically there could be 100 teams in the division below but they aren't performing to the same level.

Innocenta · 19/01/2022 17:39
@SummaLuvin Simone Biles is not skinny. It used to be that the tiny girls with pre-pubescent bodies win, but certainly Simone showed that's not necessary and in fact it's beneficial to be more muscular. None of the too female gymnasts are as tiny as the figure skating ladies for example (or the cheer flyers). And you can have apparatus-specialists in gymnastics, not necessarily to be an all-rounder. Although I get that gymnastics is insanely competitive in the US.

@WeDontTalkAboutBrunoNoNoNo I LOVED "Last Chance U" season 1 (football) with Brittany as their mentor. Completely different emphasis on the kids's futures after junior college than just on the win of the actual college. Junior College is just a means to an end to be noticed by a big uni
um, Guan ChenChen?

Even without the paedophilia, the screaming was enough for me to hate him
BitcherOfBlakiven · 19/01/2022 18:42

@tvcc his screeching made me mute the TV, every damn time.

SwanShaped · 19/01/2022 21:25

Just watched the Jerry episode. I actually felt sorry for Gabi. I think as time goes on she won’t want to support Jerry anymore.

viques · 19/01/2022 23:00

Just finished season 2. Won’t say anymore in case people are still watching.

Does anyone know why the girls all seem to have some sort of tape on their right leg? Is it so the catcher people have something to hold on to when they throw them up in the air, would appreciate it if someone knows as I have googled to no effect! It is spectacular but heck, I wouldn’t want my daughter doing it, stick to a sport where you keep your feet on the ground most of the time is my advice.

It is a very interesting series, apart from anything it really does bring home that the UK and the US have a language in common but that’s about it, such different mindsets towards life, education, sport, community, religion, competition, achievement, success........

XelaM · 20/01/2022 00:27

Jerry was also my favourite in Season 1. His story reminded me of Ronald Ollie's from "Last Chance U" (football) Season 1. Absolutely loved Ronald Ollie and glad he appears to have had a good career from his shocking start to life.

But seeing Jerry in Season 2 made me absolutely sick.

XelaM · 20/01/2022 00:31

Haven't seen "Last Chance U" (basketball), but absolutely loved the original "Last Chance U" about football. It's very similar to "Cheer" but about Junior College football. Their mentor Brittany Wagner in Season 1 was just an absolute star and could not have been more different to Monica!!! Brittany clearly truly cared about those kids's futures
