It's back. Starts with a great recap of the fame and fallout of series 1's success.

La Darius is brilliant. She gaslit the fuck out of him.

I’ve lost all respect for Gabi for staying in touch with Jerry. He made my teeth stand on edge every time he screeched in S1 and just gave me the creeps in general.

pengu · 14/01/2022 10:56

It's such an odd programme. The background music is so depressing and the whole thing gives me anxiety/low mood for some reason!

So strange considering something like the CrossFit documentaries make me feel motivated and energised.

I agree that Navarro exploit the kids and the level of injury is crazy!

The head coach is cold and weird. Don't like her.

StormyCornishSeas · 14/01/2022 11:11

I don't think their performance music is that good. I get that it needs to have a specific beat but if I had to listen to that for 5 or more hours every day I'd go bonkers. Also I get part of it is copyright but I'd like to see better footage of the performances. It's all looks very bitty somehow

pengu · 14/01/2022 11:18

The music over the talking heads is like something out of a crime drama.

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 14/01/2022 12:36

I too don't want to discuss too far ahead, but episode 5? It's difficult, difficult viewing. I guess the most positive thing I can say is that I'm glad they addressed it head on. (I hadn't a clue about any of it prior to episode 1).

ISpyCobraKai · 14/01/2022 15:15

It was all over the net when it he was arrested.
I didn't realise how big he'd become though as it was all in the US.
I was shocked at what both Monica and Gaby said, they did Navarro no favours, not that I think Monica ever did but clearly she was popular with some to get the place on DWTS.

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 14/01/2022 15:17

The tumbler Angel Rice?? Wow!
I like seeing more about TVCC, they seem to have more diversity. They appear to be a bit less camp which is interesting.

I'm sure, just not on the pages I tend to read, I guess.

I was shocked at what both Monica and Gaby said I was shocked too, but I also admired their honesty. I can't imagine finding out something like that about someone I loved. It's a lot to process and come to terms with. What Monica said about his letter to her, his hubris? I found that really shocking.

StrangerThanSpring · 14/01/2022 15:31

I just started watching season 2. It's as crazy as ever. They all work so hard. It's a lot for them to deal with.

I think with Jerry it wasn't a one off. He had solicited sex from underage kids on several occasions.

jay55 · 14/01/2022 19:58

I'm only a couple of episodes in. I'm shocked Jerry is featured still.
Below deck edited out a cast member for a racist tweet. I didn't think he'd be seen other than the episode that covers his crime.

Gabi's parents are even worse this time. Her dad is so so creepy.

Spectre8 · 14/01/2022 21:08

I just don't understand why Monica couldn't tell Maddy about the changes in advance. Making them on the spot is pretty cruel and allowing her to think she was off mat and then sending an assistant to go explain. It could of all been avoided.

I love La'Darius though and when he called Monica out for not being there when the whole Jerry situation happened. Wow, she calls them her kids but anyone would go running back to be there.

I also think Monica was wrong to not have someone experienced like La'Darius run the training because it seemed to be falling part with the girl she left them with

XelaM · 15/01/2022 20:26

Started watching this. Just finished episode 1. Love love love the Trinity Valley coach. He's a breath of fresh air compared to awful Monica. Really rooting for Trinity to beat Navarro.

Can't believe my eyes that Jerry is featured! Wtf is this all about?!?

MinglingFlamingo · 15/01/2022 20:36

The TVCC coach is growing on me. He seems more human than Monica and gets he's dealing with basically kids rather than robots

I know Monica says she's always there for them but is she really?

XelaM · 15/01/2022 20:51

Monica is horribly cold. She doesn't appear to have a human side at all. Watching Jerry makes me sick. I can't believe Netflix have agreed to continue featuring him. Also, Gaby's parents are so awful I cannot bring myself to like her. I feel very sorry for Brook.

toomuchfaster · 16/01/2022 00:26

Someone please remind me which platform this is on, I enjoyed season 1.

XelaM · 16/01/2022 00:42

@toomuchfaster It's on Netflix

XelaM · 16/01/2022 01:44

Omg, Episode 5!!! Those poor twins. It's incredible how brave and well-spoken they were and the reaction from the sports' governing body and the cheer community was completely disgusting. It's worse than sports like figure skating and even gymnastics

StrangerThanSpring · 16/01/2022 04:31

I think La'Darius would have been an awful coach. He's so emotionally volatile and bitchy towards those he doesn't like. I think he would have been out of control. I do wonder if Monica deliberately picked someone young and inexperienced so as not to threaten her position. She getting older and maybe didn't want someone too good.

I was actually a bit shocked they interviewed the victims of Jerry's assault. It's incredibly brave of them to come forward but they are so young. I suppose if their names were all over Twitter maybe it was too late anyway, but they mentioned the abuse and shit Monica got on SM, but those boys must get a lot of hassle too. I worry about them.

XelaM · 16/01/2022 10:09

@StrangerThanSpring I agree about those poor boys. I'm really shocked by how Netflix decided to deal with the whole Jerry situation. The two boys were very young but came across so eloquently and mature. They must have been through hell because Jerry was everyone's favourite in the cheer community. And utterly disgusting that after they reported the crimes numerous times, absolutely nothing was done until the mum contacted the investigative journalists that were reporting on "Athlete A" in gymnastics. Those two boys are so incredibly brave.

XelaM · 16/01/2022 10:12

And I felt sorry for L'Darius. It appears the assistant coaches always hated him

knark · 16/01/2022 10:39

I was also shocked that they showed the twins (America is a different country). I thought that their way of talking was quite different to how their mum was talking. What an awful experience for them.

TVCC coach seems to have his demons. I like his warmth and calmness. Monica's assistant coach seems a bit, er, out of her depth.

knark · 16/01/2022 10:40

And I felt sorry for L'Darius. It appears the assistant coaches always hated him I felt that his process stops people getting close, he was very defended.

knark · 16/01/2022 11:00

I was also curious as to why we don't see a full routine in the series. I found this full Navaro routine here. Talk about high octane www.kiis1011.com.au/entertainment/tv/you-can-finally-watch-navarro-colleges-full-cheer-routine-on-youtube/

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 16/01/2022 11:20

I suspect the Jerry stuff all came out after they’d started filming series 2 and the producers probably expected Jerry to play a big part given how his star had risen since series 1, hence a hurried edit midway through production to reduce his screen time.

Neither LaDarius or Monica came out of the series well, but he has the valid excuse that he’s a young man with a very traumatic history - she’s an adult. The way she fell apart on him at the end of the series was bizarre and one of the only times she shows vulnerability. It was very strange.

Also, I don’t blame the Netflix producers for putting the twins on screen, but I do question their mother’s decision to go public at the outset and then agree to have them interviewed. They’re clearly very eloquent boys but whether they can understand the long term consequences of waiving their right to anonymity is less clear to me.

knark · 16/01/2022 11:42

I like how so many of them love the sound of their own voice so much that the pep talks become more and more cheesy and vacuous.
