It's back. Starts with a great recap of the fame and fallout of series 1's success.

OP posts:

I was shocked that the mom of the twins didn't go straight to the police/fbi when she found the video Jerry had sent.

I can understand her wanting the governing body to know, to make sure Jerry wasn't around kids while the investigation happened. But id have thought police first.

It was very brave of the boys to go on film.

LaDarius is difficult, short-tempered and he does have extremes in his mental heath(totally understandable given his past), but he seems to be a wonderful coach to younger kids.

I agree Monica hired someone inexperienced so that she'd be worshipped upon return. Would have thought the existing assistants would have been annoyed that the new inexperienced one seemed to be put in charge. The whole situation was weird.

ISpyCobraKai · 16/01/2022 11:53

The Pep talks make me cringe.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 16/01/2022 12:03

Where did the male coach for Navarro go for the second half of the series? I seemed to miss what happened to him

knark · 16/01/2022 12:17

Yeah, that was odd.

MinglingFlamingo · 16/01/2022 12:51

Do you mean that Kapena chap! He was fired for hosting a house party which was attended by cheer leaders and they were basically drinking on his watch when they shouldn't be drinking alcohol because of their training. And also they were probably underage as well
MinglingFlamingo · 16/01/2022 12:53

@ISpyCobraKai

The Pep talks make me cringe.
I love and hate the pep talks in equal measure. I love watching them. But if they were directed personally at me my eyes would be rolling so hard and I would be laughing so hard that I'd probably be fired from the team.
XelaM · 16/01/2022 13:01

@MinglingFlamingo I think PP meant the guy who was with Monica at the beginning of the 2020 season (I think his name was Alex?)

Oh him! The guy who looks like Ezra from pretty little liars???

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 16/01/2022 13:29

That’s the one! And yes he does!! I did a bit of Googling and seems he set up some venture of his own? It was very much glossed over as he was such a frequent presence in the first half. I guess covid played a part in who was available.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 16/01/2022 16:39

Never liked LaDarius even in s1. Miserable tedious know it all. Dont know how the others managed not to roll their eyes any time he opened his mouth.

I do like seeing the other team - mixes it up a bit.

I think including Jerry the way they did was important for the narrarive. He has to be there so we feel his absence later and understand the reactions of all the others. He filled the space and left a big hole, a crater if you will.

XelaM · 16/01/2022 16:52

La'Darius seemed a lot more "together" than Monica at the end. She was just a total mess this year.

I'm not a fan of Gabi, but big respect to her for being in such top shape all these years. No one lasts that long at such a high level, so she really deserves respect. She does it even in spite of her insane parents who pimp her out at every opportunity.

Really liked Maddy and Gill this year. Maddy is such a fighter.

Loved the TVCC atmosphere, the coaches and the kids. Jada is a star. Dee is insanely talented, but it made me laugh how he just refused to smile despite everyone drumming it onto him. The TVCC kids were very genuine and likeable. Maybe because they didn't carry the Navarro social media hype.

Loved the Daytona episodes! Although like PP said, I wish we could simply watch the full routines rather than have weird slow-motion edits.

knark · 16/01/2022 17:32

I loved the Daytona episodes too (I've had a binge this weekend).

Monica really comes across as cold! Did you catch her comment about Dee? That was unnecessary.

POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR FINAL EPISODE.
I thought a twist was coming in that Dee would really camp it up for the final performances and add loads of swagger and pizzazz.

ISpyCobraKai · 16/01/2022 17:56

I thought that too!
Monica was so rude about him bitch

XelaM · 16/01/2022 18:27

I heard the comment, but Monica was a total disaster this whole season. She completely abandoned the kids to do Dancing with the Stars leaving them with a complete rookie coach. She didn't even come back when Jerry got arrested and everything blew up. Apparently she wouldn't answer any of their calls either. When she came back, she was then isolating with Covid and still wouldn't make a statement about Jerry.

I read on Reddit that La'Darius's allegations against her were that there were other instances of sexual abuse (involving coaching staff) that she knew about and did nothing. Who knows if it's true, but her behaviour in season 2 was awful.

Plus the Navarro cheerleaders (including Monica) came across as just fame-hungry insta-stars as opposed to "hungry for the win"- athletes like at TVCC. Maddy was the only one who looked hungry.

XelaM · 16/01/2022 18:28

And Dee was awesome Grin

ISpyCobraKai · 16/01/2022 18:29

Yep, I agree with all of that.

KirkstallAbbess · 16/01/2022 19:05

Monica is certainly a cold fish. I think that combined with all the work on her face freezing it leaves her with a strangely blank expression which exacerbates her frostiness.

Manteo · 16/01/2022 19:24

One of the mum's said she lost her house because she was paying so much for her daughters to do cheerleading Shock

What do most of these kids go onto career wise? Do they tend to become chee coaches themselves or are they studying towards other careers? It's weird that they are full-time students but there's not really any mention not what they are studying or their future plans.

XelaM · 16/01/2022 19:35

Yes, on "Last Chance U" all the emphasis was on the kids' futures and the winning football programme at Junior Community College was just a pit stop in the long-term plan. Whereas at Navarro it appears they do nothing but come back for another season or coach cheer

XelaM · 16/01/2022 20:49

La'Darius's recent post about what happened between him and Monica.

No wonder she was the one who wanted to make up with him. If what he said has been completely wrong, she wouldn't have been so desperate to make up with him.

Cheer series 2 AAARRRGH!!
CaveMum · 16/01/2022 21:38

Marking my spot as I’ve just watched Ep1 of S2 tonight. I binge watched the first series in late-Feb 2020 when I was off work ill with, what I’m pretty sure with hindsight, Covid!

jay55 · 16/01/2022 21:51

Because cheer isn't an ncaa sport there isn't the same scholarship opportunities at four year colleges that football, basketball, gym, swimming etc have.

There is no onward career path. NFL cheerleaders (which is dance no stunts anyway) get paid bugger all. So it's coaching, choreography or moving on to something else.

I can totally understand them all milking this opportunity with the social media side and trying to get all the income streams they can. It's not like any of them have parents who can help them out.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 16/01/2022 21:53

I thought a twist was coming in that Dee would really camp it up for the final performances and add loads of swagger and pizzazz.

His reaction to nailing his tumble was perfect. All the emotion it needed.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 16/01/2022 21:54

I was surprised people like Angel hadn’t pursued gymnastics over cheer given they clearly have immense talent.

LyraSilvertongueBelacqua · 16/01/2022 22:09

I've watched it all and found s2 quite flat and depressing.

Was the post from La'Darius recent? I didn't really understand what was going on at the end. Did they sort of make up and now he's back to posting stuff like that again?

TVCC was a breath of fresh air.
