Grin Grin
Well done the Aussies.

Although slightly disappointed we didn’t get to see him being booed off the court.

Fizzywinegum · 06/01/2022 07:16

Grin magi

Yes Raahh he’s just a victim if his own arrogance - bet he’s loving it in that detention hotel (not!). That’s interesting about him potentially not being able to return to Oz for 3 years

GoodnightGrandma · 06/01/2022 07:17

Good. Kick his arse out of there.

merrymouse · 06/01/2022 07:22

Good.

Zero sympathy for him.

JustDanceAddict · 06/01/2022 08:03

What an idiot he is.
Serves him right tbh.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2022 08:11

magi Grin

I can only imagine his rage.

Well done Rafa!

His court case has been deferred to Monday. I wonder if that means they’ll keep him in the detention hotel til then? He will be spitting chips.

Even if he does get to play, the crowds will make it completely untenable for him.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2022 08:18

I read that he has enough time to go home, apply for the correct visa and still be back in time for the AO but would they allow that? And yes @Porridgeislife I can't imagine him getting a welcome reception if he does!

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 06/01/2022 08:49

At least Rafa is speaking sense (well sort of!) - he says that he believes in what the people who knows about medicine say - quite right Rafa!

According to the bbc a Serbian woman identified only as Jelena is outside Djok’s hotel saying that it’s an international scandal - is that you Mrs Djokovic?

kazzaD66 · 06/01/2022 08:58

In other news....
Great win for GB in the ATP Cup. Dan is playing an absolute blinder. He even lobbed Isner! I still can't work out the group permutations though. If Germany beat Canada, GB win the group but if Canada win the match, they win the group (they are currently bottom and are the only team to have lost 3-0). My brain hurts trying to understand it Confused

Raahh · 06/01/2022 09:01

What I still can't get my head around is even if they do let him play on, with an exemption or whatever, should he not be isolating beforehand - as an unvaccinated player, as they did last year- and there's not much time for that now.

It's not at all fair to all the spectators, locals, other players- everyone - who has followed the rules, who have been stuck in hotel rooms as 'close contacts' and missed competitions (ask the French team) and he swans around looking for loop holes. He even managed to get out of staying in the player's hotel at the US open, like everyone else, in 2020.

I'm sick of this back and forth nonsense. If he does get a visa, and is allowed to play, the atmosphere will be awful. The comments from other players alone show what people are thinking about him- he will have to have the hide of rhino to go on court and play and not be affected.

Not that I care if he is affected- he indulges in enough mind games against other players all the time.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2022 09:02

I can never figure those things out kazza. The commentator last night called Dan a lollygag which I had to google Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/01/2022 09:02

kazza it's best not to try to understand the scoring system of the ATP Cup.

I gave up trying with the Davis Cup. Grin.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2022 09:05

The problem is it would affect all the other players and overshadow the whole thing Raahh I mean it's already got so much attention when we should be all dancing for joy because Rafa is in Australia Grin

Raahh · 06/01/2022 09:06

I have just switched the tv on- and it's on the breakfast news. A woman out side the hotel he is being 'held hostage' in Grin in, is being attacked by mossies, I think.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2022 09:07

I hope she's had an anti-malaria jab Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/01/2022 09:11

Jane I know.

I don't want the whole thing to be about Djok- I'm not interested in him. It was bad enough at the US Open when everytime they mentioned him, it was 'making history/21st grand slam' blah blah.

I've never been so glad to see someone lose.
And that was after suffering the same, before he was dumped out of the Olympics- I don't know why, all of a sudden, the media have decided to care about him so much. They never used to- but if Roger had been playing, they wouldn't have cared about him anyway, I imagine. Grin.

Raahh · 06/01/2022 09:11

Jane it's all about the jabs.

Grin
Raahh · 06/01/2022 09:14

And- (and I get the irony of this post, even as I type it) what is also making me cross is, I actively dislike Djok, and we have already filled more posts in the last few days about the insufferable man than we have about actual tennis.

Which is not good,

So the sooner he is out of the picture, and we can start discussing the colour of Dimitrov's shorts, the better.

Grin
Raahh · 06/01/2022 09:17

Not really surprisingly, Nadal's doubles match was a walkover- and Eurosport (on my tv anyway Grin) is - as if to goad me- showing last year's Aussie Open final. Hmm. Grin.

Maybe it will have a different result? Grin

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2022 09:17

They were strangely silent on the subject at the ATP Cup and that includes motor mouth Jim himself! Hopefully that will continue to be the case.

From what they are saying now even if he gets a visa in time it, it appears that his medical exemption might not be sufficient anyway and he would have to isolate.
As Rafa put it, he caused it all by thinking he was above the rules.

Funny I was always a Roger fan. I always find Rafa's game quite tedious.
However, he really does come across as one of the nicest and most modest sports stars out there.
I might start rooting for him...
