Anyone watching yet? I'm 3 episodes in, liking it so far but starting to get slightly confused by there being so many characters.

I love James Nesbitt Blush

I had to turn it off after a few minutes. I don't know if I was just in a bad mood but the opening scenes were so cheesy I just couldn't watch it. Can't remember ever being turned off by a TV show that quickly.

Watched for long enough to see that once again it's all glamorous posh houses and interiors. Why can't they set these things in normal family houses.

longwayoff · 06/01/2022 09:56

But Angels you should have hung around a little longer, it very soon moved into a more familiar looking place. That is not a recommendation though.

coolmum123 · 06/01/2022 12:53

We have just finished watching this. Really enjoyed it. Pleased to hear we have other Harlen Coben ones to look forwad to but a pp said we have had 3 but Netflix have done others in different language like The Woods (think they are English dubbed tho)

currering · 06/01/2022 15:03

Why did the photographer have a key inside that huge head statue? I nipped to the loo and didn't pause it and wasn't sure if I missed it? It bothered me for the rest of the episodes how they had a key.

Hotyogahotchoc · 06/01/2022 15:05

I just finished it
Didn't predict who the killer was

I thought it was good!

meanderingthrough · 06/01/2022 16:18

I can't get past the Runcorn Bridge being on the way to Blackpool and the St Helens Big Giant Head having a double bed inside :)
It's also about 3 episodes too long!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/01/2022 17:34

I enjoyed it. Felt like a slightly too long ITV Monday night drama but that suited my post-Christmas/not back to work yet viewing requirements.

The Barbie and Ken killers irritated me. Like the director felt like he had to introduce some LaLa Land quirkiness. But it just felt wholly unconnected to the rest of the show.

Guessed the killer pretty early on. There wasn't really anyone else it could have been.

WarmForDecember · 06/01/2022 17:37

We watched one episode and thought it was shit. I'm usually of crime/thriller type stuff (and of James Nesbit) but it was so wooden and clunky and the dialogue was laughably atrocious.

Hotyogahotchoc · 06/01/2022 18:26

We're Barbie and Ken not in the book?

Bettybantz · 06/01/2022 18:32

Broome would have totally been up in front of Professional Standards, as would his boss if he hadn’t been for the chop.

I loved the locations though (but agree with the weird Runcorn Bridge/St Helens link). They actually made Blackpool look classy in places!

MaryAndHerNet · 06/01/2022 18:39

@Hotyogahotchoc

We're Barbie and Ken not in the book?
They were in the book but they were different as it's set in America. In the book they're 2 religious fanatics that work for the Atlantic City Mob.
SufferingJet · 06/01/2022 19:01

@Allaboutyou222

I thought it was rubbish. Watched 2. Utter nonsense.
ALL OF THIS. Except I watched it to the end stupidly.
RozHuntleysStump · 06/01/2022 21:55

What absolute rubbish. I at least could get through ‘the stranger’ but this was too much for me.

PriamFarrl · 06/01/2022 23:15

It was complete nonsense, but I watched it.

Why was the policeman who let Barbie and Ken in not noticed missing?

Everyone is talking about how nice the house is? Yes it was lovely on the inside but really odd on the outside.
And in all of the adaptations, what job does everyone do that means they can afford a lovely house?

Halloweiner · 07/01/2022 03:01

I watched this over New Year, quite liked it but still have unanswered questions.

SPOILERS

  • Did Frances really have any visitors? If so who was it?
  • Why did Lorraine admit to killing Carlton when it turned out she didn't? Did she see the incident with him and the girls and just cover up for them?
MovinOnUp · 07/01/2022 03:15

Do you know what annoyed me.....Megan in her lovely big house, Had Tesco value chocolate spread out on the kitchen island 😁
Dancing murderers I can believe but Tesco value chocolate spread? 😆

Hotyogahotchoc · 07/01/2022 05:00

Why did Lorraine admit to killing Carlton when it turned out she didn't? Did she see the incident with him and the girls and just cover up for them?

Yes I think so as she was shown in the background when they were all in the car park

I assume Lorraine had all the visitors she said - the bald man and then I think Barbie but they set it up as she was an unreliable witness to start with.

Newgirls · 07/01/2022 08:41

Yes agree. She saw the girls and the orange car. She wouldn’t have known what was going on then or that dad pushed car into lake but she fessed up to it out of love for Cassie aka one of her girls. I like that only Cassie knows what happened to Carlton.

Newgirls · 07/01/2022 08:42

Yes bald man from vipers went to see grandma. As did Barbie. Was grandma on Cassie or daves side? Seemed like maybe she was Cassies foster parent?

rurbane · 07/01/2022 09:13

I struggled with the timescale. Cassia changed her identity 17 years earlier but her daughter's best friend had a car, so must have been at least 17 years old. Is that because they can drive at a younger age in America? Some other bits felt like they hadn't translated it into Britishness enough, like JN playing a cheesy love song on the piano.

I did really enjoy it despite the inconsistencies.

MaryAndHerNet · 07/01/2022 09:16

Yes bald man from vipers went to see grandma.

Here in lies one of the stupidest plot points... As I recall it, I may be wrong.

Ok so.
Lorraine, vipers manager, goes to see Meghan / Cassie.
They meet in a cafe and Lorraine tells Meghan that "Stuart's back, I saw him in vipers..."
Dun dun dun...

That kicks off the whole story chain of events, way back in episode 1.

It's later revealed that who she saw was supposedly the bouncer of Vipers.

I mean, come on, the manager of Vipers doesn't recognise the bouncer of Vipers even from behind? Is every tall bald guy supposedly Stuart back from the dead?
Meghan should have told Lorraine to get to buggery and moved another 15 miles, she'd be hidden for another 17 years..

longwayoff · 07/01/2022 10:05

Harlan Coban is a man and writes ridiculous and unbelievable women.

NashvilleQueen · 07/01/2022 10:11

Why did the photographer have a key inside that huge head statue? I nipped to the loo and didn't pause it and wasn't sure if I missed it? It bothered me for the rest of the episodes how they had a key.

Cassie had the key. He said something like 'I can't believe you kept it all these years'.

NashvilleQueen · 07/01/2022 10:12

Of course that doesn't explain why they ever had a key to the big head in the first place!

Dippydinosaurus · 07/01/2022 11:49

@meanderingthrough

Also 'Vipers' is (or was as it's closed down now) the club in my home town. Apart from bringing back lots of teenage memories, it's about a 90 minute drive south of Blackpool. Lovely scenes of Formby pinewoods too
