Anyone watching yet? I'm 3 episodes in, liking it so far but starting to get slightly confused by there being so many characters.

I love James Nesbitt Blush

On episode 4. Absolutely love it! But then James Nesbitt can't do no wrong in my eyes 😍 Love Lorraines flat!

gertie445 · 02/01/2022 15:46

I also loved Lorraine's flat, so bohemian and trendy.
I haven't read the book, so it didn't matter that it was set in England.

I love that look. We have the red cabinet x

Her flat was amazing, loved the decor and overlooking the sea!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/01/2022 17:06

Just finished episode 2 & loving it

Flaxmeadow · 02/01/2022 18:31

Just finished the series and really enjoyed it. Highly recommend.

Downtherefordancing · 02/01/2022 21:01

I’m amazed anyone is enjoying this. Such a flimsy and annoying storyline with really bad acting from some.
I gave up after the dance routine by the weird couple (barbie and Ken?)

LadyCatStark · 02/01/2022 22:54

I’m finding it weird as a lot is filmed in Blackpool and a bit on Morecambe and I live between the two. It’s not set there though and I just keep spotting familiar places 🙈.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 02/01/2022 23:00

I'm on Ep4 but confused at the bit where JN the DI takes a bottle around to the cellar house...what's his connection there?

The detective had got to know the family previously when the husband/dad Greene bloke disappeared, and he then stayed in touch with them

MaryAndHerNet · 02/01/2022 23:09

I hated it.
I am glad others are liking it though.
I just thought it too unbelievable and completely improbable etc.

NashvilleQueen · 02/01/2022 23:13

I think JN had slept with the missing man's wife at some point over the past 17 years but no longer. Unless I read that wrong.

bevelino · 02/01/2022 23:23

@BigSandyBalls2015

Binged this, it was brilliant. Barbie and Ken were absolutely terrifying Shock
Barbie and Ken reminded me of that pair in Natural Born Killers, completely brutal, shameless and terrifying.
abw94 · 02/01/2022 23:34

Just finished it and.... wow. Was not expecting the ending!

At the start I felt it was very slow and far too many characters but kept on going and I'm glad I did.

The weird couple were the highlight for me!

I thought this too! I wish they'd explored that a bit more
EachandEveryone · 02/01/2022 23:37

Dod JN and his police partner used to be married? That was abit weird.

All the beautiful property and we never really got to know what they did plus the posh nursing home. I guess things really are cheaper up North😃😃

I enjoyed it. Was very easy to watch just what I needed.

species5618 · 03/01/2022 02:32

It's the law that all Harlan Coben TV characters seem to own nice houses!.
Not really enjoyed this series much.
What does Meghan do for a living that she can swan around all day? Come to that, does Dave never worry that she's missing in action a lot?

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

I can't believe that Meghan (as Cassie) ran away from an abusive past and changed her identity, but it seems she only managed to move a couple of miles away. Certainly close enough that she can pop in on old friends and casually visit places from her past.

MaryAndHerNet · 03/01/2022 07:36

The novel is set in Atlantic City in the US, I think they try to change the setting to England as best they can. I assume these big nice houses are the descriptive equivalent to the American houses.
Seems common in America to have a house with a basement plus a front and rear yard etc, no matter what earning level.

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 03/01/2022 07:56

There’s a practical point about needing space to film when using real houses too.

I enjoyed the cast and the parts where I could suspend disbelief but ‘Barbie and Ken’ were ridiculous; Eddie Izzard annoyed me (although TBF he does anyway; it wasn’t really about his character) and the identity of the killer was such a crime drama cliche.

thehillswerebright · 03/01/2022 08:18

My oh was watching while I was pottering about half watching. Why were they people dancing? Why had no one randomly bumped into her over the years? And most importantly...how has Cassie not aged in all of those years? I want whatever she was using!

Gardeningcreature · 03/01/2022 09:18

I thought Barbie and Ken added a very surreal element. Different from the usual stereotype of a killer. Murderers and psychopaths come in all shapes and sizes, it’s how they get away with it.
I was thinking about the huge houses they seen to use it is to help filming, it’s for the lighting.
Lots of films/documentaries have characters living in huge houses. Friends is a classic example. A waitress living in a luxury apartment in Central Park, really?
Think I said this in the other thread but I also enjoyed seeing women who weren’t afraid to fight back rather than allowing men to terrorise them.

Bichette · 03/01/2022 09:34

I think it made a change to have men as the victims rather than women, but on the whole it was completely unbelievable.
It took the police 17 years to work out that all these men had disappeared on the night of the carnival.
Megan staying in the same town and never bumping into anyone who knew her as Cassie.
The gorgeous police safe house practically on the beach.
And loads more.

Yes. They used to be married; it was discussed in the first episode
Thewiseoneincognito · 03/01/2022 10:20

Blackanchesterpool looks like a lovely UK resort doesn’t it 😏 I must say I was impressed how gentrified they made the piers look.

WTF was Carnival?

Vipers looked like an old Beefeater with a paint job, was it a Drag bar or strip joint? 🤨

The F was the dancing duo all about?

So you run away from a (was he?) dead man to change your identity yet still live in the same town and manage to stay hidden for 17 years? Eh?

The annoying fat friend of the photographer, who was he?

Megan and Dave must be on a fortune

Lorraine just a bar manager but had a stunning flat with sea views

The missing persons ladies?

So many confusing strange things and that’s not even with the ridiculous urge to run in dark woods everyone seemed to have.

NashvilleQueen · 03/01/2022 10:27

This!! I had so many questions by the end. I did work out the killer as well as the motive. Enjoyable nonsense tho.
