Anyone watching yet? I'm 3 episodes in, liking it so far but starting to get slightly confused by there being so many characters.

I love James Nesbitt Blush

Starting series 5..a bit confusing, have I missed Barbie and Ken being named so?

lozengeoflove · 04/01/2022 17:06

It was the ridiculous connecting of the dots right from the start that set the tone for me.
“Oh you said 16th April. OMG that changes EVERYTHING! That’s the same date that a long unresolved disappearance happened 17 years ago. They are definitely connected. There’s only that random date to go by, but I can feel it in my waters”.

And then your woman moves two miles down the road with a new identity.

And that’s just the beginning of the list of reasons why I couldn’t get past the second episode 😬

MimiBaker · 04/01/2022 17:19

warning: spoilers

relationship between Goldberg & Barbie - are they father/daughter as suggested?

I thought Barbie was the mother of Goldberg's daughter.

Why did Harry have the muscle with him first time and then never again?

Sunsetsupernova · 04/01/2022 17:22

Oh that’s an interesting thought. I was convinced that Barbie was his daughter for a while.

It was quite silly with lots of holes but still riveting enough that I stayed up until 2am binging the whole thing Blush

They were named as such in the credits.
BellaChagall · 04/01/2022 19:34

It was utterly ridiculous with a plot full of holes and ridiculous situations (like Megan living near enough to Vipers for her daughter to go there yet no-one recognised Megan in 20 years locally) but it was thoroughly entertaining viewing for a dreary January bank holiday weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although Barrie and Ken were bizarre and creepy!

BananaSpanner · 04/01/2022 19:49

@Polmuggle

It took the police 17 years to work out that all these men had disappeared on the night of the carnival.

TBF they were never tasked with investigating the ones in the middle. The main two cops investigated the original one, then got handed the new one. It was only because they were sure that they were connected, that the went and dug up reports of everyone else who had gone missing around the same dates in the years in between.

But all the disappearances happened in the same area which means it would be the same cid office/ team dealing with it, so if not JN and partner, then it would be their colleagues and they would be supervised by the same inspector. It was absurd that they didn’t work out that they had an annual disappearance linked to the same nightclub during carnival every year for 17 years. I enjoyed it but I was like “oh come on!!”.
longwayoff · 04/01/2022 20:45

Watching Ep2. "Oo er, I think the scary psycho I'm hiding from may be hiding in the basement of his wife's house". "No prob. We'll go over there and YOU can go into the basement and check it out." And she does just that. As you would, of course. Not watching any more of this.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/01/2022 20:52

I'm only a short way into the second episode and I'm not sure whether I like it or not. However, the step mother in the first episode was bothering me because I knew that I knew her but couldn't place her. So I looked her up on IMDB and she was in B*witched.

Italiangreyhound · 05/01/2022 00:02

Hated Barbie and Ken.

The violence was not awful but there was a lot of 'threat'.

I'd say 15 plus for age.

ShmeevilWeevil · 05/01/2022 00:42

Complete nonsense but enjoyable nonetheless.

Spoiler alert
The dodgy cop locked Cassie and the daughter in a storeroom and was then murdered by Barbie and Ken.
In the next scene Cassie and the daughter were talking to Broome and the other cops but no mention of how they got out of the room or why they didn't mention that the dodgy cop had locked them in the store room!

longwayoff · 05/01/2022 08:58

I always give the Harlan Coben films a go but don't think I've ever managed a whole one. Started off ok, flash house in - where? Somewhere desirable and pricey. Ah, here we are. In Blackpool. Ok.

MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2022 09:02

I couldn’t keep watching

Actors annoyed me and story wasn’t good enough to keep me going

Newgirls · 05/01/2022 09:53

I’m enjoying it! There is a lot thrown in there, bit chaotic but colourful fun.

I’ve never read a Harlan coben novel. Are they all like this? I like the funny lines that pop up now and then.

Hotyogahotchoc · 05/01/2022 14:40

I just started this. I'm enjoyed the others and liking this so far!

There are actually some really nice houses on the outskirts of Blackpool! But being local I can’t get over the jumping between Blackpool and Morecambe. Why did the police woman need to detour via Morecambe to buy a sandwich on the way to visit Ray’s house? 😂
longwayoff · 05/01/2022 18:56

Yes LadyCat I've been crass with that comment, if my long-departed MIL could see it, she'd be furious, she had a very nice house in Lytham St Anne's. I was just a bit shocked when Stay Close moved from relaxed and spacious US style home to Northern seaside town. The 2 styles together didn't sit right with me. Apologies to people of Blackpool if I've offended you.

LadyCatStark · 05/01/2022 20:43

@longwayoff haha no not offended at all 😊 to be fair I don’t think it’s meant to be set in Blackpool, more like a generic seaside town. If it was, they could have at least given our accent a try! And if you wanted to visit a strip club in Blackpool, you wouldn’t need to drive out into the middle of nowhere to do it.

MaryAndHerNet · 05/01/2022 21:23

And if you wanted to visit a strip club in Blackpool, you wouldn’t need to drive out into the middle of nowhere to do it.

One of the things that I had a problem with was the strip club. There's a scene where you see them leave the carpark, it's shown the club is in just behind some houses. I don't believe for a second that they'd be given the okay to build a strip club in suburbia... 🤣

Shesaysso · 05/01/2022 21:38

The fictional strip club is an actual nightclub (or it was a few years ago) it’s in Formby really close to the sand dunes. I always used to think it was such a weird place for a nightclub.

PriamFarrl · 05/01/2022 21:56

Just finished.

SPOILERS

Why did they have armed police to get the photographer? They only get out armed police if you are armed don’t they?

PriamFarrl · 05/01/2022 21:57

And why do they talk about ‘carnival’ and not ‘the carnival’?

AsYouWishButtercup · 06/01/2022 01:32

@species5618

It's the law that all Harlan Coben TV characters seem to own nice houses!. Not really enjoyed this series much. What does Meghan do for a living that she can swan around all day? Come to that, does Dave never worry that she's missing in action a lot?

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

I can't believe that Meghan (as Cassie) ran away from an abusive past and changed her identity, but it seems she only managed to move a couple of miles away. Certainly close enough that she can pop in on old friends and casually visit places from her past.

What made me laugh was that there were shots of the green bridge every time she went back to her ‘old’ life such as Vipers or Harry’s. The green bridge presumably took Cassie to a parallel universe because I find it hard to believe that she only moved about 20 minutes away and NEVER bumped into any of her old friends in Asda
squishyegg · 06/01/2022 01:43

I had to turn it off when the barbie and ken duo started to dance in the countryside before dropping a dead body off into the woods... what a load of weird nonsense

Newgirls · 06/01/2022 08:38

Spoilers

I’ve finished it. Loved it. A lot going on. I liked the barbie and Ken back story scene and their lines.

Lorraines story was sad. Broome really was a chaotic police officer wasn’t he. Working with his ex. Slept with one woman and now another.

All about parents and kids wasn’t it.
