New thread for tonight. Will they have to replicate a Tunnock's product? Creme caramel? Can't think what else they might have to do.

OP posts:

I would have been out the back of the tent and on my way to Costa for Millionaires shortbread as soon as they turned their backs. Grin

antsinyourpanta · 03/11/2021 18:16

I've made caramel once the "proper way". Delia said it would take 7 min. It took 3 attempts 2 shoping trips and the final successful attempt took about half an hour.
I prefer making with condensed milk butter and sugar (so healthy) its much easier!

We said George to go from the start of the programme
Hes been sailing by the seat of his pants for weeks now although his show stopper was one of the best yesterday (and he seems a nice guy)
I like all of them this year.
Usually there's one or 2 annoying ones but they all seem nice and I like how they help each other.

AppleKatie · 03/11/2021 19:15

George might not have gone on the strength of yesterday’s show but at the point whether the judges admit it or not overall performance is a factor and he lost that competition! Although I do like him.

SaltedCaramelHC · 03/11/2021 22:19

Just watched it.

I agree, whoever, ever ever makes a homemade Twix?!
And a sugar dome? All for effect and would taste horrible.

But Juergen was great again. I do like him that he just gets on with it.

I expected lizzie to go as well - George picked it up with his showstopper, and she really didn't.

Crystelle still driving me nuts with her artificial drama and flapping, when she knows perfectly well she's competent. She might well end up winning it, but I kind of hope not, just because of this fake demeanour. I like Juergen or Giuseppe to win. Giuseppe was a bit unlucky this week but I expect him to be back.

So stressful watching the damn domes coming out (or not). What a waste of all the ingredients, for something that nobody would ever eat. I mean I know it's all wasted in the end, but these were never really even intended to be eaten.

I didn't like the trailer for next week - someone (Jurgen?) with some vile looking green gloop, and later, the judges saying to someone (again possibly him?) that they expected better from them. Uh oh. . One bad week is all they'd need to get rid of someone they think is doing too well - it would make better tv for them if they get rid of the good ones.

None of the jokes between Noel and Matt were funny this week at all.

Still not sure how the whole practice/living arrangements work. They talked this week about having practiced dozens of times at home for these challenges. Yet other times they've talked about a practice tent and them all staying on site for the duration, rather than just for the weekend. So if they were able to practise at home, was that before the series, and did they get all the challenges before it started?! The poor people that left on week 1 or 2 would have been disappointed, if they'd come up with and practiced twelve possible weeks' worth of signatures and showstoppers!

holidaynearlyover · 03/11/2021 23:01

I think they know what they are making when they are at home before they show began to be filmed- I read somewhere that they have to submit all their recipes. Then I think they practice again in the practice tent each week.

Mydogisagentleman · 04/11/2021 06:59

Really sorry to see George go, him and Lizzie were my favourites from the start.
It’s an unpopular opinion, but I don’t enjoy Juergen at all. He seems so joyless

SaltedCaramelHC · 04/11/2021 07:48

Interesting about submitting all the recipes first. That must be so much work for those who then end up getting knocked out early! But it does explain how they can practise so far in advance.

I think the editing tries to play up the Juergen German stereotype a bit, because he also seems quite a lot of fun at times, but then other times they just show him not laughing at something. But I quite like that - I don't see it as joyless, but just straightforward get on with things, don't make a drama out of it, don't laugh at noel and matt's stupid, stupid jokes, etc. I know what you mean about how he can come across at times though, but I like that he seems happy when he wins. I like Giuseppe too, beaming smile when things go well, and also quite laid back. Chigs too. I find Lizzie and Crystelle much harder to listen to, though Crystelle is a good baker.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/11/2021 08:37

I think Lizzie's bowl made more sense than the see through dome. They seemed to acknowledge that although they said the baking inside wasn't good. So I'm not sure how George had to go and not her, really, it was very close.

absolutelynotfabulous · 04/11/2021 08:45

At lizzie's had a purpose. Shame the contents were inedible but it was a creative idea.

bibliomania · 04/11/2021 10:24

George was lovely, but I do think Lizzie brings a lively vibe to the tent. I'll miss her when she's gone, which I'm expecting to be next week.

knittingaddict · 04/11/2021 10:32

To be honest Jurgen not laughing at Matt and Noel's jokes is a plus for me as they aren't funny.

longtompot · 04/11/2021 11:56

George, though lovely, was very blasé about his bakes. He never seemed to move quickly, especially when time was running out. Lizzie I feel is a much more competent baker and I love how straight talking she is. I don't see Crystalle as acting fake at all. I get genuine vibes from her, but I could be wrong. I do like her.
I see the final as having Jurgen, Giuseppe, and maybe Chigs in it.

Immaculatemisconception · 04/11/2021 13:59

I love Jurgen, he's so modest. I really wanted Lizzie to go, rather than George.

iklboogiemaninthecloset · 04/11/2021 18:33

I can't believe people are kicking off & calling 'fix' because next week is Free From week and Freya isn't in it.

SanFranBear · 04/11/2021 20:06

I agree with several PP's that Noel was actually being quite cruel with his 'you look like...' crap. Especially to Jürgen - the League of Gentlemen are designed to be vile and Hoggle isn't exactly better (although he does at least have a good heart!) That really upset me as poor Jürgen clearly didn't know what he was going on about.. I'd have been really offended on his behalf if I'd been in the tent as he seems sweet.

I thought George had to go really - his showstopper was ace but he was dreadful in the first two rounds and I can only really remember Key Lime Pie guy get through on Showstopper alone (although totally accept I may be misremembering!)

I also think Crystelle comes across as really genuine - she reminds me of lors of people I have known and she has made some delicious stuff (I loved the sound of her pie last week!)

I think Lizzie will go next week and then probably Chigs in the Semi with Guiseppe the eventual winner.. but happy to be wrong as they seem a pretty lovely bunch this year!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 04/11/2021 20:39

I am sad George has gone but not surprised.

ChessieFL · 05/11/2021 20:54

Who is kicking off?

iklboogiemaninthecloset · 06/11/2021 11:23

@ChessieFL - loads of people online / social meeja saying it's not fair. Ridiculous.

ChessieFL · 06/11/2021 14:15

Thanks iklboogie - I haven’t seen any of that. Thing is, if she was still in everyone would be complaining she has an advantage!

shrugitoff · 07/11/2021 00:21

I thought Lizzie's blue bowl with the roses looked amazing.
I love the illustrations of the baker's cakes.

TheShoeLady · 07/11/2021 01:20

Sorry bit late to the party - I make caramel as part of my job and was also wondering why they were all stirring it as that’s caramel 101! But it all seemed to work out ok so maybe I’m just too worried about it!

Just because I know you’ll all appreciate it - here’s one of my caramel creations!

And yes I burn myself almost every time I make it.

ChessieFL · 07/11/2021 05:31

That looks fab TheShoeLady!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/11/2021 07:24
