New thread for tonight. Will they have to replicate a Tunnock's product? Creme caramel? Can't think what else they might have to do.

OP posts:

Yes I agree about timings. I said to my colleagues yesterday that I'd rather see someone bake something absolutely perfect than rushing and freezing and bodging it just to fit the time frame.

MaggieFS · 25/11/2021 08:40

Agree on timings - obviously there needs to be a time limit but I'd rather it was reasonable to allow quality baking rather than curtailed to force drama which just isn't needed.

I'll add that to my list and fill in that contact form.

EsmaCannonball · 25/11/2021 11:13

When the bakers finish off their bakes you can see all the mess and chaos around them. When it comes to the judging their bakes are neatly at the end of their bench and everything has been cleaned and tidied. I guess the producers have a good look at the bakes and spot any potential triumphs and disasters, hence Crystelle being left until last and her focaccia, the thing the judges would naturally eat first, being left until the very end. When the viewers can see the joins like this it starts to make them feel cynical about what should be a feelgood show.

Tulipomania · 25/11/2021 11:15

I suspect the final edit can also change the order in which the cakes are brought up to the judges...

Having to carry the bakes up to the judges is something else that should go. Those showstoppers were enormous and I was expecting one of them to not survive the journey.

Thanks, @PickAChew and @girafferafferaffe - I've sent feedback and I'll keep the link for another time, as there surely will be.

I've always thought about this - surely anything warm like pies etc will be stone cold by the time they eat them!
Platax · 25/11/2021 17:21

I heard somewhere that the Masterchef judges regularly end up eating stuff that's gone cold. Sounds fairly insane, really.

Platax · 25/11/2021 17:25

@CaptainMyCaptain

My husband knows very little about baking but he could see that all that oil was wrong. He also commented about Giuseppe making one big cake as three shallower ones would cool more quickly and cutting a warm cake would be difficult. Some things are just obvious.
My thought on this was that it is pretty ridiculous that decisions on what is meant to be a really good cake should be governed by timing. If you were making that sort of cake in RL, you would just leave icing it till it was completely cool. Was there any reason whatsoever why they couldn't give them another half hour so, apart from the producers' wish to manufacture some artificial drama?

Sounds rank 🤮
Hesperatum · 26/11/2021 20:25

GBBO - Noel Fielding, Matt Lucas, Tom Allen - why?

EdgeOfTheSky · 26/11/2021 22:28

@Hesperatum

GBBO - Noel Fielding, Matt Lucas, Tom Allen - why?
Quite. Why any of them? All totally cringeworthy.

GBBO, based on the great tradition of home baking and the cake tent at a village fete, has been colonised by crap cringey unfunny men. Plus ‘swing my macho ego’ man, Paul H.

Totally agree. No authentic baker works under silly arbitrary time constraints. They just get up & at it earlier.
KosherDill · 27/11/2021 02:36

@user1471543094

Also just give them more time. Relying on using a freezer to cool cakes in the final is just wrong. We want to see their absolute best. Not just what they can barely manage in the unrealistic time frame. It's not demonstrating their best skills.

Yes! If only the producers would realize this.

EdgeOfTheSky · 27/11/2021 09:40

I think Pru is fed up with the format. On extra slice she said how ridiculous it was that they had to think up stupid ‘advice’ before the technical.

KosherDill · 27/11/2021 13:09

I hope Prue doesn't leave the show.

Matt can go. Wonder why Sandi hasn't returned.

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/11/2021 13:12

Sandi only wants to do anything for a short time - she enjoys learning something new then doesn't find it a challenge anymore and moves on.

MaggieFS · 27/11/2021 14:58

Sandi's done QI or whatever it is she does for yonks though hasn't she?

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/11/2021 15:26

That was what she said about leaving GBBO though.

And she did the News Quiz for years before that - I think it is more to do with not wanting to leave the BBC.
cardoon · 28/11/2021 16:02

Is there no final "extra slice" this year?

AppleKatie · 28/11/2021 16:12

It was on on Friday

cardoon · 28/11/2021 19:26

Not seeing it on catchup for some reason

lomaamina · 29/11/2021 14:00

Not seeing it on catchup for some reason
It was the same for me. I had to watch it on some weird 3rd party site (I can't remember which, I'm afraid).
