New thread for tonight. Will they have to replicate a Tunnock's product? Creme caramel? Can't think what else they might have to do.

OP posts:

😎next week

MrsWidgerysLodger · 02/11/2021 21:15

@Jellykat

OK, Lizzie gets to fight another day.. but shes gonna have to work her butt off next week! Jurgen bores me shitless...

Hate to say it but I agree... He's technically very good but there's nothing entertaining there at all. :/

TheDogsMother · 02/11/2021 21:16

See you next week. Masterchef starts on Monday too 😀

ILoveYou3000 · 02/11/2021 21:16

Oh I'm a bit gutted at that. I liked George a lot. Then again I think whoever went tonight I would have felt that way.

Is that Jurgen or Giuseppe getting a telling off next week?

EsmaCannonball · 02/11/2021 21:16

Oh, that's a shame. I really like these bakers and don't want any of them to go.

I know that caramel is unhealthy, but seeing it being made makes you appreciate just how thoroughly unhealthy it is. I would never make it myself as I know someone who ended up in A&E after attempting it.

BakeOffRewatch · 02/11/2021 21:16

@TheDogsMother

Oh George, that's sad. I do think it should have been Lizzie.

Anyway re trifle 🤮

Yeah the judges always say it comes down to taste whenever there’s been backlash on who is out, and they literally said Lizzie’s was inedible.

I knew George would be out from the opening, when they had everyone saying how hard it would be, and then an edit, likely out of context, of George saying he’s confident. It’s so over-edited and forced narrative now, this will probably be the last series I watch. Along with the drama being mostly down to the bakers not having enough time, it’s just not enjoyable for us anymore.

SerenTarot · 02/11/2021 21:19

I'm actually shocked they chose George.

His first round was a disaster no question, but Lizzie's caramel fingers were almost as bad as his in the technical. They were the bottom two.

However in the showstopper round he was streets ahead of her. Surely that carries more points?

I was so certain they were going to say Lizzie - I feel like a great injustice has been done. Grin

BakeOffRewatch · 02/11/2021 21:20

Noooo I think Juergen is really funny, his “Matts” line was the only time I properly laughed.

What happened to your friend @EsmaCannonball?

Lizzy will go next week then Chigs

My friend got boiling hot caramel on two of her fingers, instinctively stuck them in her mouth, as you do when you burn yourself, and burned her mouth, lips and a little bit of her face as well. She still has slight scarring, which is barely noticeable on her face but a bit worse on her fingers. It's the stuff in jars for me!
jay55 · 02/11/2021 21:53

Had to watch on catch up.
George deffo went home for past performance. I'm sad for him but delighted to keep Lizzy

PickAChew · 02/11/2021 23:05

Caramel is about being observant and takes a bit of experience. I've tried a few times in 40 years of baking and bollocksed it up, either side of done. I'm sure if I'd tried it 20 times, I'd get it right, more often than not.

PickAChew · 02/11/2021 23:09

And don't Diss Jurgen. He's a proper geek and I love a geek.

Ellmau · 02/11/2021 23:17

Jurgen's dome was incredible.

AlexaShutUp · 02/11/2021 23:34

I love Jurgen. And Giuseppe.

Actually, I love all of the ones who are left. They're a good bunch this year.

thecatsthecats · 03/11/2021 09:48

I'm now feeling smug because I made caramel once at the start of lockdown and it came out perfectly, but then again I do have beginner's luck in baking.

It's all downhill after the first attempt.

I always think that if I did Bake Off, I'd have to wing it doing my signatures and showstoppers without practice.

knittingaddict · 03/11/2021 10:34

I'm a bit diappointed that George left. It was very close, but I thought Lizzie's showstopper was much worse that his. The inside of her dome looked horrible. Oh well.

ihavespoken · 03/11/2021 10:47

Thanks for the new thread - I haven't read it yet but I just wanted to say what a mean nobhead Noel is, giving the nasty descriptions of all the contestants Angry. So not funny!

I think George was the right one to go, but it does my head in when they have to do non-baking tasks (leaving aside caramel not being baking anyway). What was the point of the sugar domes, other than to make it much harder for everyone to complete the baking bit of their tasks??? They didn't even eat the bloody things! Angry

ihavespoken · 03/11/2021 10:48

Also why would you make a Twix when you can just go to the shop and buy one Hmm. I love GBBO but this week's episode just annoyed me!

Clymene · 03/11/2021 10:59

Why did Paul cut through jurgen's dome and no one else's? it was really odd.

Agree about Noel's comments - they were really inappropriate and not funny

absolutelynotfabulous · 03/11/2021 11:40

Found both Matt and Noel spectacularly pointless and unfunny last night.

I like gbbo but maybe it's a bit stale now.

Don't think I'll watch another series.

AppleKatie · 03/11/2021 12:12

I’ll watch another series because it’s cosy and what autumns all about but agree I’m watching in spite of Noel and Matt not because.

knittingaddict · 03/11/2021 12:13

I would argue that doing sugar work is a part of baking. I don't think all recipes need to be strictly bake in the oven stuff. The contestants have to have their ability pushed to the limit and some of the results are spectacular and unexpected. I like that about it.

Having said that the dome making was hide behind the cushion level. The great thing was that they all had a dome at the end of the challenge and I think that was wonderful.

bibliomania · 03/11/2021 15:09

I don't mind a bit of joking around, but the contestants looked as if they were forcing smiles at Noel and Matt's unfunny schtick.
