New thread for tonight. Will they have to replicate a Tunnock's product? Creme caramel? Can't think what else they might have to do.

@Bagadverts

On today Chigs. I think from the cynic point of view all of them are marketable. Why did they start with sweet with Crystelle, the others were savoury?
I wonder if they left the focaccia to the end for dramatic effect - they could probably see it was going to be a disaster while it was being prepared.
CaptainMyCaptain · 24/11/2021 07:59

Paul gave the foccacia one of his funny looks when she was putting it in the oven.

girafferafferaffe · 24/11/2021 08:13

@LadyAddle I sent a form through here:

www.channel4.com/4viewers/contact-us

They responded shortly after with this

'We are sorry to read of your concerns regarding the presenters Matt and Noel throughout this programme. Please be assured that we have logged your comments and concerns for the attention of those responsible for the series.'

I am chuffed ti bits that Guiseppe won. I loved it when he spoke Italian only when he was stressed. A lovely man. I hope his three little lads are enjoying Italy.

This is the thread that keeps on giving. I am quite behind with The Archers. Gaspode and Babylon have reminded me to catch up. I am still waiting for Natasha to admit that the whole destroying Fallon's business charade was just her trying to dissuade Tom and Pat from enveloping her business within theirs.

SkepticalCat · 24/11/2021 09:02

@PickAChew

I thought carrot cake was odd for a final. It's idiot proof but only because it improves with standing for a day.

I often cringe at the reliance on the freezer, anyhow. Sometimes things just need to cool slowly.

Yes, I've wondered about using the freezer to try to rapidly cool something and whether the taste/texture is affected. Putting things into the freezer seems to happen with every bake these days, whereas I'm sure it used to be just as an emergency measure - if something had gone wrong and the baker had to start again.

Also thought that Crystelle can't possibly have not known about her raw focaccia. It wasn't just slightly doughy in the middle, but even through a TV screen you could see it was totally raw. (And all that oil didn't make it look particularly appealing.)

Mydogisagentleman · 24/11/2021 10:30

Saw it this morning and cried for Giuseppe.
The best baker won, I really hoped Chigs might take the title, but I imagine he has a bright future in presenting or writing a cook book.
He would be great to replace Matt. I really like him, but he isn’t right for the role. Him and Noel don’t seem to have any chemistry.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/11/2021 10:38

My husband knows very little about baking but he could see that all that oil was wrong. He also commented about Giuseppe making one big cake as three shallower ones would cool more quickly and cutting a warm cake would be difficult. Some things are just obvious.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/11/2021 10:48

Guiseppie’s dad broke my heart!

Needdoughnuts · 24/11/2021 11:05

Last night the editing was so obvious it was shameful. It wasn't about baking at all it was trying to get us excited and failed imo. They were setting Crystelle up to win until the focaccia (I've never won a technicall! and then 5 minutes later...) and Guiseppe to fail with two oven 'incidents'. Tampering with the heat both times? And then the fawning over the pancetta was so ott! I suppose there had to be something they had to select to be a deserving winner.
I know we are led all the time but it was like they weren't even trying to conceal it last night!
Did anyone think Paul and Prue were less enthusiastic as well? They'd either run out of superlatives or cba.

Keladrythesaviour · 24/11/2021 11:19

I'm so glad Guiseppe won as he was definitely the best baker. I get really annoyed with the editing where it shows a fully undecorated cake and they say "you've got 1minute left" and suddenly they have a fully decorated cake thatd neat and tidy. There's no way those two scenes match!

Frezia · 24/11/2021 11:35

I'm really pleased about Giuseppe winning, I hoped this would happen. A very worthy winner. Though Chigs came really close and can feel very proud of himself. I like how he credited my boy Jürgen with teaching him a technique he used in the showstopper.

I thought it was Crystelle's to lose right up until the focaccia moment. I'm a pretty basic baker but one thing I can do fairly right is a focaccia and told DH what she was doing looked all wrong. I felt really bad for her.

The road trip montage was so sweet. What a lovely bunch of people all around, I wish them all well.

herecomesthsun · 24/11/2021 12:20

I loved the Mad Hatter theme (have done a birthday party with that theme)

CampagVelocet · 24/11/2021 13:30

Delighted that Giuseppe won - definitely the right person. Crystelle was nice but would have been all 'gosh, look how shocked I am!', which gets boring. Chigs improved through the series, but only to the point where by the very end he was at the standard Giuseppe had been at, or above, throughout. Giuseppe was always so good and such a lovely man.

EsmaCannonball · 24/11/2021 14:20

Giuseppe has stated on Twitter that he is up for making the tv cookery show with Jürgen that the viewers have been demanding, if a production company gets interested.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/11/2021 15:13

I'm not sure how comfortable Jurgen would be with that. He didn't seem entirely in his element on Extra Slice.

herecomesthsun · 24/11/2021 15:20

I think Juergen would be great for providing snippets of information about food in a historical context, possibly with some music, remembering his wonderful music cake.

longwayoff · 24/11/2021 15:25

Jurgen doesn't watch TV. Regardless of finding himself on GBBO, I'm not convinced teleworld is where he'd be happy. But if he's up for it, hurrah, bring It on.

Me too re editing - was so obvious last night as well.
Tulipomania · 24/11/2021 17:57

Me too! I was pleased with the result, although I still think Juergen should have been there too.

Immaculatemisconception · 24/11/2021 18:03

I've complained about the judging, as I think Hollywood has got way to big for his boots and Pru doesn't get a say.

I've asked for new presenters.

user1471543094 · 24/11/2021 20:26

Matt and Noel gave me the absolute rage during the final.
Am still smarting from no Jürgen and they definitely do not help the irritation levels!
Mel and Sue took a genuine interest in the bakers. All Matt and Noel care about it cheap juvenile laughs. I bet they'd be telling fart jokes if they were allowed.

user1471543094 · 24/11/2021 20:30

Also just give them more time. Relying on using a freezer to cool cakes in the final is just wrong. We want to see their absolute best. Not just what they can barely manage in the unrealistic time frame. It's not demonstrating their best skills.

WhatHoMarjorie · 24/11/2021 20:32

Yes, their having to stick the cakes in the freezer is so annoying. There should be less emphasis on beating the clock.

EdenFlower · 24/11/2021 20:50

I get the impression it's really hot in the tent under the studio lights which is why the cakes need help to cool maybe?

Terminallysleepdeprived · 24/11/2021 21:10

Well that was a disappointing final.
