Anyone watching this new comedy crime thriller? I have high expectations, purely because I fail to believe that they would have secured Christopher Walken if it had been completely terrible..

@SkiingIsHeaven

Sorry but I thought it was pants. Will not be watching any more episodes.
Give episode 2 a try first ? You might be surprised!
itsgettingwierd · 28/10/2021 08:19

Agree with 80's. I watched the first and found it different to what I was expecting. The second got me intrigued enough to want to see the third!

CaveMum · 28/10/2021 12:45

@OverByYer

I really liked it but I could watch Walken in anything. Tickled me to see him on a bus in Bristol.
Stephen Merchant said in an interview that Christopher Walken asked him what Bristol was like as a city. He said he described it as “quite hilly, it’s got a famous bridge and there’s a bohemian culture - it’s just like San Francisco!”

Bet he got a shock when he arrived Grin

OverByYer · 28/10/2021 13:29

Ha ha that’s funny. I love Bristol but it’s not the prettiest of cities

the80sweregreat · 28/10/2021 18:29

I bet that CW was bemused by Bristol !!

Bobbiethemouse · 28/10/2021 20:08

So I guess Claes Bang grew up in England then ? Think he will be typecast as a bad guy his face doesn’t look friendly. It’s so weird to see Christopher walken in this …

BakeOffRewatch · 28/10/2021 20:25

Starting it now…

the80sweregreat · 28/10/2021 20:32

Dracula is going to be awesome I bet
Good actor

RhinestoneCowgirl · 28/10/2021 20:35

I've watched both eps, mainly because I live in Bristol and have been location spotting. It was definitely plugged more as a comedy and I let DD (13) watch the first episode with me and she found it a bit frightening at the end. Not helped by the fact that particular scene was filmed very close to our house Blush, in fact we walked past the crew when they were filming before Christmas last year.

I'm also very much enjoying CW on FirstBus!

thebuswontfit · 28/10/2021 20:46

Loving this one. Its really good so far!

It was awesome, though the third episode went a bit odd! Bit gory in places, for me, but not too awful.
Bobbiethemouse · 28/10/2021 20:55

Dracula I enjoyed and I even liked the dreaded episode 3. I have looked out for him since and have not seen anything so it’s good to see him do this. Dolly wells is great too - I would love to see them in scenes together I think there was a good chemistry between them in Dracula.

I think it is wonderful. The best new drama I have seen this year. It makes me wonder if Stephen Merchant actually wrote most of The Office.
I do hope it is a huge hit. It deserves to be successful.

the80sweregreat · 29/10/2021 08:30

I think that 'the Office ' was a joint effort with Gervais and Merchant and the writing.
I loved the office so much , I know many didn't ..

CaveMum · 29/10/2021 09:15

I’m not a big fan of The Office, I liked it but I’m not generally a fan of stuff that makes you feel uncomfortable (The League of Gentleman falls into this category for me too). Part of the problem is that I know a David Brent-type in real life and I can’t watch the show without thinking about him, and he makes my skin crawl!

I can appreciate it for the ground-breaking show it was though.

Yes I did too, having said that though, I haven't rewatched it for years. I wonder if it's aged ok, or if it's best left as a memory of how good it was at the time.

After Life by Ricky Gervaise is fantastic if anyone is looking for something else to watch. Heartbreaking, but wonderful in its own way.

I really enjoyed it. What a breath of fresh air compared to the plethora of murder based stuff on TV. I liked that they helped each other out.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/10/2021 14:19

I love it. Watched the second episode on IPlayer and then disappointed I couldn't 'binge on'. Who is Dolly Wells playing (the socialite's girlfriend)? All characters are differently interesting and yes, I'm curious to find out what the businessman's crime was.

the80sweregreat · 29/10/2021 14:20

I also loved ' afterlife' too.
Both are brilliant writers.

thisplaceisapigsty · 29/10/2021 15:20

I'm really enjoying this so far and love the quirky mix of characters. Walken is brilliant and brings something different to the party I think and I love the way his ideas work out, like the party idea for his grandson - so much fun. What I'm really not enjoying is the drug dealing story as so far it seems so stereotyped and sort of lazy, so I'm hoping something different will happen soon to make it more interesting as the other stories are very strong.

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/10/2021 16:44

I think she's playing Christopher Walkens daughter isn't she ?

Yes it is, though I can see why a PP compared it to a CBBC show Grin it's got that feel about it, but I don't think it's a bad thing!

Yes has a whiff of silliness to it much like Horrible Histories

rumred · 29/10/2021 20:42

@covetingthepreciousthings I also appreciated that the posh one is a lesbian, albeit an unhinged one. As one myself it's just nice to see lesbians portrayed as part of a cast. Nothing exceptional, just happen to be gay

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/10/2021 18:27

Just watched the first two episodes. Enjoyed it a lot.I thought it was clear from the trailer and the fact it's 1 hr episodes at 9pm on BBC1 on a Monday that it was going to be a comedy drama rather than a sitcom. Looking forward to episode 3.
