Anyone watching this new comedy crime thriller? I have high expectations, purely because I fail to believe that they would have secured Christopher Walken if it had been completely terrible..

I loved it! It’s not supposed to be hilarious, there’s far more to it than comedy.

the80sweregreat · 26/10/2021 17:34

I also think that Mr Merchant may also be a mumsnetter given some of the things they say!
..

fabulouslyglamorousferret · 26/10/2021 22:36

I loved the comment about reading SAS books not counting as reading! 🤣

MyOtherProfile · 27/10/2021 06:43

We expected it to be a comedy what with it being billed everywhere as a comedy and it really isn't. As a drama it's a bit dark for me and I wouldn't have chosen to watch it had I known it isn't actually a comedy.
The young actors were great though.

Bobbiethemouse · 27/10/2021 10:32

I watched the second on I player and really enjoying more now

Privatesector · 27/10/2021 10:39

Love Diana the supervisor character!

the80sweregreat · 27/10/2021 11:35

Diana is a sad character really.
I'm still intrigued as to how he smuggled out that paint stripper tool ..

He just opened his jacket, so he could have had it tucked into his waistband at the back. He did it sarcastically, like an old guy like me, stealing a heat gun? C’mon! . I think he’s a very accomplished Con Man - we’ll probably find out more in later episodes.

I loved it, didn’t really go for the obvious, most of the time and the dialogue was cracking.

Saucery · 27/10/2021 11:41

Rani was shoplifting for thrills, so it fitted nicely that she had a mad dance after the evening’s adrenalin-inducing shenanigans. I also liked the way they didn’t make her family the typical ‘high achieving Asian’ trope so many scripts would have settled for.

SwedishEdith · 27/10/2021 11:45

The smart cookie/donut "still works" line was pure Stephen Merchant.

the80sweregreat · 27/10/2021 11:56

To be fair , the many trailers for it on bbc made it seem as if it's a straight up comedy series with a bunch of ' misfits ' , but there are other elements to it.

the80sweregreat · 27/10/2021 13:19

Diana is the new Gareth in this.

ChequerBoard · 27/10/2021 18:09

I have watched ep1 and 2 and am really liking this so far. Loving that it's got a plot and is drama driven rather than just a situation comedy

Yes I am too, although I hope it doesn't get too dark with the gang drama. It was advertised very much as a comedy I thought, but I think sometimes an hour episode is too much for a comedy and it does need breaking up.

Love Claes Bang, I am always surprised how good his British accent is considering he's Danish.

OP posts:
CaveMum · 27/10/2021 19:42

Nice to see Claes Bang and Dolly Wells in the same production again - though I doubt they’ll have many/any scenes together. They were both excellent in Dracula.

Bobbiethemouse · 27/10/2021 20:31

@CaveMum yes they were it’s where I saw them both and have been interested to see if they will be seen again. Claes Bang only had a short scene in ep 2 but he has such a presence.

PuppyMonkey · 27/10/2021 20:42

I think this will be a huge hit for the BBC, but I did think it was a bit like a children’s drama series tbh. Light and not believable and slightly cringe. But it had heart.

I dunno, the US is making things like Succession and Maid.

We get this.Confused

MrsLargeEmbodied · 27/10/2021 22:53

i cringed, was disappointed and watched somethign else

OverByYer · 27/10/2021 22:56

I really liked it but I could watch Walken in anything. Tickled me to see him on a bus in Bristol.

littlefireseverywhere · 27/10/2021 23:11

I thought it was quite good, not another murder mystery.

I wonder if he said "Cheers Drive!" when he got off the bus. Its the rules in Bristol.

OverByYer · 28/10/2021 07:04

Lol!

itsgettingwierd · 28/10/2021 07:07

I've watched first 2 episodes after seeing SM on last leg discussing it.

So far I've found it funny but in that way that it's totally weird and out there!

I'm enjoying it enough to want to watch the 3rd episode when it's released!

Saucery · 28/10/2021 07:21

Wonder if they will go with him being ‘Christopher Walken’ amidst all the gangster stuff? Or just leave him as a charismatic elderly con man? The way he acted all feeble and cringing to Gabby about the party was superb.
SkiingIsHeaven · 28/10/2021 07:25

Sorry but I thought it was pants. Will not be watching any more episodes.
