New thread, looking forward to finale, but wishing it really was the last episode, with all storylines and characters ending satisfactorily.

Thank you Clawdy for the new thread.

@Clawdy, I totally agree with you…a nice satisfying conclusion would be lovely (and producers would never allow that to happen!)

I didn't notice about nick being married so I'm glad I read this thread. Was it just a flash of a wedding ring rather than something he said? I was knitting so probably missed it.

I don't think like was being manipulative. He was doing what he had to do to get his daughter back. He knows June doesn't love him the way she did before.

I also wondered if Janine would become an Aunt, it's all about survival now. Good idea about Esther being posted with Nick. I thought 'Be happy' was the last we'd ever see of him but maybe not.

Thank you for the map Witchsharkadder. I did not realise how much territory Gilead gained in 7 years.

Nick has already offered his services via the Swiss delegate when they were in Washington. www.refinery29.com/en-us/2019/06/236394/nick-soldier-crusade-background-handmaids-tale-season-3-episode-6

The only thing Fred west believes in is Fred West.

I am loving his character, watching him work out who best to align to to save his skin.
He genuinely thought he and Serena would be brought back into gilead as returning heroes... Especially with a baby.
He now knows he is nothing, likely get executed there for some jumped up charge, child will go to putnams and Serena a handmaid.
So he needs to ensure his safety and he is setting Serena up so she can't go back.
By encouraging her to write a book he is making her a traitor of the state of gilead, so if he needs in the future he can keep her close.
He knows Serena is much more dangerous and powerful potentially than him.
He needs to ensure she feels she needs him.
Though I reckon he'll do a deal to go somewhere neutral... Leaving Serena alone, with the baby, having written a tell all book...
He only cares about what is best for Fred

Theredjellybean · 16/08/2021 08:31

God sorry... Not Fred West.. Fred Waterford

shivermetimbers77 · 16/08/2021 08:36

I love how they have made every character morally ambiguous: no wholly good or bad guys and that is what makes it so interesting. Looking forward to next week.

Do we think Nick loves June? He has nothing to gain and everything to lose remaining close to her.

Definitely. Why else would he be helping her?

On an irrelevant note, did anyone notice nicks grey hairs Grin that commander life working him hard 😉 I’m wondering if that’s added on purpose to make him suddenly seem like a grown up?! As in, compared to when he was a driver for the Waterford’s and he was just doing what he had to to survive. He just seems really different this season I’m assuming because we don’t know his life now, June’s only seen him a few times in the past 2 series.

Also, I’d love to see serena as a handmaid Grin

I looked up from my crochet at the right moment to see him take a wedding ring from his pocket and put it back on :)

Yes I was just thinking this this morning. He was almost boy like if you look back to season 1 and now he looks very manly. Still looks boyish in RL though - I think hair/make up /costume dept have done a good job on him.
WorldsBestBoss · 16/08/2021 09:09

Was looking for a current picture of Max Minghella and came across this. Not that Max is looking particularly young here but what struck me is that Joseph Fiennes looks so odd out of the character of Fred Waterford 😂

Anyone know what I would have seen the Luke actor in recently? He had his English accent and was really good.

Clawdy · 16/08/2021 09:32

Watching The Dig recently, and DH said " That's the guy who plays Fred in Handmaid's Tale! Wow, he looks so much older!" Of course, it was Ralph Fiennes, his brother ! Grin

Aha! Thanks, my eyes were obviously still on my knitting at that point.

On an irrelevant note, did anyone notice nicks grey hairs grin that commander life working him hard @WilheminaVenable I noticed this too! Again the timeline is completely throwing me off but assuming serena is about 8 months pregnant now it’s not been all that long since we saw him last in the bridge and man he has aged!

I’d like to think he has had some say in the wife he has and they are plotting together to bring about the downfall of Gilead…I’m also sure Esther will end up his handmaid and they can work together to bring it down from the inside.

I’m pretty sure we are going to see Serena give birth this season in the finale…I’m wondering if June’s curse on her will come true. Perhaps it will be a “shredder”.

theneverendinglaundry · 16/08/2021 09:43

Checking in for next Sunday.

I wonder what will happen! I think June will definitely go back into Gilead for Hannah.

June goes back into Gilead with Nichole, becomes Nick's handmaid, kills the wife, they bring down Gilead and run off to the beach in Hawaii collecting Hannah on the way. Luke, Moira and Emily and family go over and live in a beach hut next door.

Plausible?

Yes I love this too.

Even lovely Emily did some despicable things
