New thread, looking forward to finale, but wishing it really was the last episode, with all storylines and characters ending satisfactorily.

‘Or were they just keen to shut Fred up because he was spilling all the Gilead tea? But also that's a bit like closing the door after the horse has already bolted? ‘

I think it was this. And yes I am sure he will have said most of the obvious stuff in initial interrogations but I am sure he would have continued to be of further use to Canada as situations developed.
Plus propaganda wise he would have been an ongoing problem for Gilead- nothing discredits your regime like a leader turning his back on it.

TeaStory · 31/08/2021 11:45

There's no way Gilead would give up Hannah without a massive fight. As far as Gilead is concerned, per their laws and culture, Hannah has been adopted and lives with her real family with no connection to June at all.

Yes. Like the Waterfords' reaction when they heard about the children escaping - sympathy for 'their families' in Gilead and no consideration at all that the children's real families might be in Canada.

Watching the second season again (I've been binging). Sorry if this has already been brought up but I find it really odd that June stayed in hiding through out her whole pregnancy, gave birth completely alone and then, after doing the hard bit... then gave up her position? Surely she could have made a go at reaching the border with the baby?

Crinkle77 · 01/09/2021 17:55

She didn't spend her whole pregnancy in hiding and she didn't leave Gilead with Nicole because she couldn't leave without Hannah.

I thought of Gilead/THT when I read the news this morning Sad

OverByYer · 01/09/2021 21:00

Yes I did too. Was really shocked to hear this on the news

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/09/2021 21:10

Life and art.

Awful.

Horehound · 02/09/2021 14:50

Right juaw watched final two episodes.
Kinda disappointed at the ending actually and tbh I'm getting a bit bored. It's going far too slowly. I certainly don't want 10 seasons of it.

Glad Fred is dead, don't want June to leave Nichole though :(

TeenTitan007 · 06/09/2021 21:26

I just read 'testaments' by Atwood this summer. It's a sequel to 'the Handmaid's tale', more like the 'conclusion'. I won't reveal more but it's safe to say there are likely to be many more series before they get to the Testaments bit.

Loved the ending of S4. Raw revenge!!

Leaveitonthefloordrobe · 06/09/2021 23:49

I liked the revenge. Yes, they were like animals, but that's what the Gilead made them into. It seemed fitting that his life was ended by the women denied any power or agency by the regime he helped create. He was scared. And he lost his chance to be a father. Justice was served.

BIWI · 07/09/2021 08:56

Please don't say any more about The Testaments!

Hulu haven't yet said if/how they will tie up their series with this book (which is really not a good one).

TeenTitan007 · 07/09/2021 10:59

Agree @BIWI - the book was a bit meh. Won't say anything more Smile

Can't wait for S5!

Meanwhile - I've started from S1 again..it's soo nice to watch knowing what happens later. I am a bit more relaxed than last time when I was terrified that June would die or lose a limb any day! Confused

BIWI · 07/09/2021 11:15

I've started from the beginning again too @TeenTitan007. Amazing how much I've forgotten or didn't notice first time around

OverByYer · 07/09/2021 22:48

I will watch from the beginning as an autumn/ winter treat

TeenTitan007 · 09/09/2021 22:06

@BIWI - indeed, it feel like tiny little details clicking into place when I am re-watching.

Like I hadn't really paid attention to how long and intense Nick and June's relationship was in S1,2. Also now I note how the other handmaids bonded with June in the early episodes. If only they knew how she would be their leader in the end..
Also I take pleasure in watching Serena and Fred and their cruel behaviours and say to them (in my mind)...she's going to kill you a a few years..just you wait! Grin

Delightful!!

StrongCoffeAvalanche · 11/09/2021 22:17

What's your favourite scene from any episode of any of the 4 TV series? I think mine is the clean up of commander Winslow at Jezebels. Love the music, love the banding together of women and their power by numbers.

TeenTitan007 · 12/09/2021 13:06

@StrongCoffeAvalanche - that's a good one. Mine is the one when June tells Lawrence when he changes his mind on the day of the children's' flight S3 - 'it's not your decision to make'...the whole conversation..shows how she has just seized power and ruled the day!

FrankoTheWankoMyBoy · 25/09/2021 16:37

Hello, I'm not reading the thread past the first few August posts as I'm still on S2 Grin and exciting it is! June and Nick have just been pulled from the plane....

I'm glad Nick hasn't been executed, I'll resume watching once DH is busy with something else as this is my wee watch when I have time Smile

TeenTitan007 · 26/09/2021 15:57

@FrankoTheWankoMyBoy - I have watched all series/episodes and restarted from S1. Taken a pause after S2 so that I can relish S3 a bit more. Grin.
S3 is brilliant - you'll love it. I've watched the season finale 3 times! Enjoy..

FrankoTheWankoMyBoy · 26/09/2021 17:05

@TeenTitan007 after Serena got June by the neck I thought she was going to spit in her face or something and I was like oh don't June. It really has me gripped. I'm going to get the books x

TeenTitan007 · 26/09/2021 17:44

@FrankoTheWankoMyBoy - my daughter just got the book from her school library but I couldn't get stuck into it. It was only covering series 1 and pretty much verbatim what's on screen. Perhaps a bit late to go back to the book. But let me know how you get along..
